CFFL Week 13

What an ending to the week as we had three games coming down to the very last game on Tuesday.  Playoffs are about set.  Two divisions are clinched. One basically is.  It's coming down to the Wild Wild West!

Here is what happened this week in the games:

Wrecking Crew 36  Animals 28 - Animals were fighting for their playoff life this week but couldn't hold on to beat the Crew.  Crew took a 26-18 lead behind 12 points from Murray, but the Animals got 10 points from Bass on Monday Night to take a 28-26 lead.  There wasn't any worries that Tucker would kick at least 3.  He kicked 10 points, game over.

Chislers 29  Ferrets 23 - Ferrets hung in there in this one.  Chislers seemed to be unmotivated early in the game as Cook, Henry and AJ Brown all had fumblitice.  Chislers were down going into Monday night, 17-13, however they had their deadly Bills weapons of Allen and Diggs "Dig Dug".  Allen didn't disappoint scoring a whopping 16 points!  However none went to Diggs and one went to Ferrets counter WR Gabriel Davis!  Score was 29-23.  Ferrets just needed one TD from Gus Edwards on Tuesday Night for the win.  He played well, but when it came down to redzone carry, the Ravens gave it to JK Dobbins for the TD and not Edwards and the Chislers survived.

Allen led the Chislers with 16 points!

Dragons 32  Killer Bees 30 - What a sweat this one was for the Dragons!  Dragons, for the second week in a row, came out with a big early lead 26-0.  But like last week, they let their opponent back in.  Bees would start the comeback with a 70 plus yard TD run by Aaron Jones.  26-6. Then they got 16 huge points from their kicker Butker on Sunday Night.  Suddenly it was tight. 26-22.  Monday night, the Dragons got a little breathing room with an Aiyuk TD catch, making it a 10 point game 32-22.  However a 10 point connection from Dalton to Schultz Tuesday night would end it.  Dalton would throw 2 TDs making it 32-30 but didn't hit Schultz.  Cee Dee Lamb did drop a Hail Mary at the end of the first half, that if caught, Dalton's last pass to Cooper in the 4th would have won the game for the Bees.  The Dragons win clinches the South for the Dragons for the second year in a row.

"Boyd" Crowder scored 12 for the Dragons

Killers 40  Whales 10 - While not a thrilling game, a game worth noting for sure.  And maybe I might be a little bias, however Killers win Owner of the week award if there was such a thing.  While other owners, just sit there, start QBs that are not starting (Legion), not put in a defense because their defense in on a bye, or other line up issues that they are too lazy to put any effort in, here is the Killers with basically their entire starting line up of Buccaneers on bye.  They scrambled around the waiver wire to pick up a defense, a kicker, other players to fill the lineup.  While ultimately those pick ups didn't make a difference as Cam Newton's 16 points led them to a 40-10 victory, it was the sheer effort to not just sit idly by.  Take note you lame owners...

A happy Cam (QB) is a happy Cam (owner)

Around the league...Mayhem beat the Titans 33-28 behind 12 big points from TE Waller.  Titans didn't start a D.  And had a lot of points on the bench.  Time to sit the Rams...Cocktails beat the Juggernauts 38-30 in a game that wasn't as close as that score would seem.  They had a 38-16 lead going into Tuesday Night.  Juggs needed 23 points from Jackson.  He scored 14...Sinistars lost the number one seed, losing to the Krauts 34-28.  Rodgers out played  Wilson 12 points to 4 in the win for the Krauts....Crush keep their playoff hopes alive beating the Legion 32-21 behind 18 big points from QB Carr.  Legion started Foles...doh!

Player of the Week:  Derek Carr, QB, Crush - 18 points

Okay, well now it's time to shift our attention to the playoff race.  3 Division are decided and 3 wild card spots are locked up.  Amazingly we could have 6-8 teams in the playoffs.   It comes down to what happens in the Wild Wild West...

Division Leaders                                  Wild Card
1. y-Chislers 11-2 (580)                        5. y-Crew 10-3
2. x-Sinistars 11-2 (458)                       6. y-Krauts 8-5
3. x- Dragons 7-6                                  7. y- Cocktails 8-5
4. Killers 6-7                                         8. Whales 6-7 (410)
x- clinched division
y- clinched wild card

In the Hunt
Animals 6-7 (390)
Crush 6-7 (360)
Juggs 5-8 (423)
Legion 5-8 (409)

So let me try to break down the possible scenarios.

Let me start with the North.  It's not over yet.  Crew have a shot to win the North if they beat the Ferrets and the Animals beat the Chislers.  Both teams would be tied at 11-3 and split the head to head, however the Crew would end up with a better divisional record in this scenario.  Crew would then be number 1 seed if Sinistars lose.  If Sinistars win in this scenario, Crew end up number 2 seed.

Killers beat the Crush this week they win the West.  Simple as that.  Whales will get wild card if they beat the Legion regardless of if the Animals win as they hold the head to head tiebreaker.

If Killers lose to the Crush and Whales win they win the West based on tiebreakers with the Crush.  Crush would need Animals to lose to capture last wild card spot.  If Animals win and tie the Crush, they hold the head to head tie breaker.

How does the Crush win the  West?  They need to win and have Whales lose.  Simple as that.  Animals then with a win would get the 8ths seed.  Now in this scenario, if the Animals lose, the Juggs suddenly are in the mix if they beat the Krauts and finish 6-8 and have the highest current PF total of 423 among all teams that could end up at 6-8.

One other note.  Krauts and Cocktails could flip seeds.  Cocktails certainly would like to see that as under the current situation they would draw the Sinistars or Crew if they win the North (outside shot, see above), while the Krauts draw the Dragons.  No offense Dragons, but come on.  So I imagine that both Krauts and Cocktails will be fighting hard for a win this week!

On to the final week of the regular season.  Back in June/July I think we all weren't sure if there would even be a season.  Way to go NFL!  Kept that machine moving forward!

rah!
