CFFL History: Fantasy Bowl VII

The 1991 season of the CFFL would see the entire North Division make the playoffs, with the Wrecking Crew division champs.  Twins and Mooches would return as East and West Champs and could have been heading to a Fantasy Bowl rematch.  The Mooches certainly would be expected to make it back led by league MVP Jim Kelly.  However both the Twins and Mooches would vacate the playoffs in the first round.

Ultimately facing off in Fantasy Bowl VII would be the Jewels, who have played in two Fantasy Bowls and the Wrecking Crew, playing in their first.  The Crew beat bitter rival Chislers in the first round and the Bums in the semis 55-29.  The Jewels would knock off defending champ Mooches in Round 1 and then the Wening's Wimps (aka Fez's Ferrets) in the Semis.

Rod Berstine, part of the Crew's
"B Squared Backfield"

Fantasy Bowl VII would pit the great arm of Dan Marino for the Crew versus Mark "Cornholio" Rypien of the Jewels.  The Crew road the backs of their "B Squared Backfield" of Brad Baxter and Rod Bernstine throughout the season. The two backs combined for 19 TDs on the season and both scored TDs in Fantasy Bowl VII.  Chip Lohmiller was the Jewel MVP scoring 149 points.  He would be the only one to score for the Jewels kicking 5 FG and an XP.  Crew would win their first Fantasy Bowl 32-16.

Jim Kelly earned MVP honors with 138 points
which included a 6 TD performance in Week 2!
