CFHL Update

Been a while since we had a CFHL update.  So here is one.
Little late, but Happy Holidays from the CFHL Ice Girls

La Femme Nikita 5  Checkers 1 - Nikita had little trouble beating the Checkers after Patrice Bergeron  went off and scored 4 goals in one game.  He would finish with 5 goals, 2 assists and a +6.  This stopped the Checkers streak of wins but they are still only 3 points out of first in the Norris Division.
Bergeron wsn't done after his hat trick.

AshBusters 5  Who Gives a Puck 2 - AshBusters continue to roll, winning its 7th in a row and have a 3 point lead in the Smythe.  Couturier led the Busters with 5 goals and 5 hits while the Bearded Wonder Burns had 4 assists in the win.  3's were wild for Puck's Taylor Hall who had 3 goals, 3 assists, +3 and 3 PPP in the loss.

Goon Crew 5  Mayhem 2 - The Crew had a huge day on Saturday flipping the +/- when they started the day at -1, ended at +13.  Brad Marchand was a big reason for this as he finished with 2 goals, 6 assists and a +6.  Mayhem goalies let them down as they had no wins.
Marchand had 6 asists

Krampus 7  White Mambas 0 - Wow the Krampus shut out the hapless Mambas 7-0.  This game saw both teams have players that are on IR in their line ups.  Kreider for the Mambas and Atkinson and Forsberg for the Krampus.  And we thought the CFFL was bad...On a bright note the Krampus had some impressive goal tending with Fleury and Anderson who combined for 4 wins and .940 SV%
Fleury came up big for the Krampus

Assassins 4  USSR 2 - The Assassins took care of the KGB with equally good goal tending as the Krampus as Bobrovsky and Price combined for 4 wins and a .943 SV%.  The USSR are still trying to figure things out and were ready to overhaul their entire team.

Mid Season Leaders:

Goals: 27 - Nikita Kucherov and Alex Ovechkin, a pair of Russians lead they way in goals playing for the Johnston family.  Kucherov for La Femme Nikita and Ovechkin for the Roulette.

Kucherov bending it like Beckham

Assits:  43 - Jakub Voracek from the USSR, one of the few bright spots on the USSR so far this year.
Voracek giving the stink eye...

Rating:  +23 - Jaden Schwartz of La Femme Nikita.  That's two for Nikitas.  No wonder they are battling for the Smythe division.

Power Play Points:  27 - Phil Kessel "Run" from the Krampus Carols.  Oh silent night. Oh deadly night...
Phil Kessel on the Kessel run?

Hits:  137 - Adam Larsson from the appropriately named Checkers.  Checkers also have the number 3 and 4 in hits on their team. (Orpik and Brown)

Goalie Wins: 26 - Anderi Vasilevsky from the AshBusters, formerly of the Puck who traded him to the AshBusters earlier this year, making them a super team.  He's also second in SV%

Wonder if Puck wishes they still had Vasilevsky

Save %:  .945 - Marc-Andre Fleury from the Krampus.  A pleasant surprise from the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.

Fantasy Bowl XXXIII

FANTASY BOWL XXXIII
Alex Animals 28  Cam's Killers 21

In the 33rd Fantasy Bowl of the CFFL, we saw a new team, but a familiar name win it all as the Cherry name wins yet another Fantasy Bowl.

It was the battle of the CFFL founder sons.  Alex, son of Commissioner Rick Cherry, also owner of the Chislers, versus Cameron, son of R.C. Wrecking Crew and founder of the CFFL, Roy Cherry.  That's a basket of good looking Cherry's there...

Animals came into the Fantasy Bowl defeating his father in the 2nd round, thanks to a late Mike Evans TD.  The Killers got into the Fantasy Bowl defeating the Roulette who had nothing left in the tank.

This game started as one of the most boring Fantasy Bowls since the Mooches beat the Twins 14-2 in Fantasy Bowl VI back in 1990.  After the first half the game was only 3-0 in favor of the Killers.  This was a disappointing three points from Forbath, considering he had 10 points in each of the past 3 weeks.
Forbath wondering what happened...

The second half would be a different story and produce some nasty play, fights, injuries, and yes some scoring.  Cam Newton was nearly Sad Cam for the Animals, but did manage one TD pass.  Blake Bortles for Killers came up empty and basically cost them the game as Winston on the bench had 11 points.
Animals D shut down Bortles.

After a Goodwin TD, who was playing for Hill of the Animals, the Killers issued a hit on Goodwin and knock him completely out of the game, leaving him twitching on the turf.
Goodwin scores for the Animals
Which later earned him a trip to the hospital...

That's when things got interesting.  Hauschka would make the game 17-3 and it looked like it was trouble for the Killers, even after a Baldwin TD catch making game 17-9.  Alex Collins would scamper on a busted play for a TD for the Animals and it looked like it was over, 23-9.

Collins reversed field and scored the eventual game winner for Animals

But the Killers would not go quietly in the night as Baldwin would score a 2nd TD and then Landry would score a TD that would entice an all out brawl between the teams that included an ejection of Landry and helmets being tossed across the field.  The game was 26-21 and the Killers would just need one more TD for the win!  It wouldn't be Landry, but could it be Baldwin for his 3rd or could Bortles finally score, needing him to run one in.
Things got nasty after the Landry TD for the Killers...
Don't mess with Triplette...
That will earn you a trip to the locker room..
Or as Mike Rapaport would say, "That'll get ya benched!"
The Tennessee / Animals defense kept Bortles scoreless and then Mike Evans, who was knocked out earlier in the game by the Killers, would catch a 2 point conversion making it 28-21 and requiring the Killers to get 2 scores.  That obviously wouldn't happen and the Animals would get their first Fantasy Bowl title in franchise history.  Congratulations to the Animals!  Hats off to the Killers for getting to the Fantasy Bowl in their first year.  And it is now 33 years for the Ferrets and no Fantasy Bowl...
Evans didn't have a great game but caught a 2 point conversion for insurance

It was a season of great parity with so many teams from 9-5 to 7-7.  Lots of picks ups, drops by just a few teams who tended to pick up players that were dropped just that same night (having to stay up past Midnight, Cocktails, Roulette, Sinistars). A few teams under investigation due to not managing their line ups.  But when it was all said and done another successful year in the archives of the Cherry Fantasy Football League!  See everyone in August for our 34th CFFL Draft.

Animals are the Fantasy Bowl XXXIII Champions!
