CFHL Week 2

Happy Halloween!  Week 2 of the CFHL is in the books.  Take a peak at the spooky results...

Mayhem on Ice vs. Assassins 4-3
The Mayhem on Ice edged the Assassin to move to 2-0 while the Assassins drop to 0-2.  The Mayhem tallied 12 goals to lead the league in goals scored with 34 on the season.  This included an incredible 7 PPG!  6 players had PPG including 2 from Patrik Laine.  The Assassins manged to tie them in assists and once again had a league leading 147 FOW on the week.  Tavares had 37 and Kesler had 40.  What hurt the Assassins was the injury to Backes as the Assassins lost to the Mayhem in hits 33-22.
Laine came up big for Mayhem

Who Gives a Puck vs. Krampus Carols 6-3
The Puck were led by Kyle Okposo who had 3 goals, including a PPG, 1 assist and 2 hits.  But Number One Star honors for the Puck went to Dougie Hamilton, who had 2 goals, 3 assists, +4, and 6 hits!  Puck centers won the face off battle as well as Giroux and O'Reilly had 62 and 72 FOW respectfully.  Despite the Krampus Carols only getting 2 goalie wins, they dominated in the GAA and SV%.
Hamilton is ready for Halloween

Goon Crew vs. Slow Icin' 6-2
Goon Crew had little trouble defeating Slow Icin' as they lead most of the week by a large margin, including dominating in goalie categories, getting 4 wins, 1.00 GAA and .965 SV%.  Dubnyk was the Number One Star of this game as he notched 3 shut outs for the week!!
Dubnyk didn't allow a single goal all week

White Mambas vs. Cherry's Checkers 6-2
The defending champ Checkers drop to 0-2 losing to the upstart White Mambas.  This is what happens when you go all in on a team that has a bad week.  The Checker Kings had rough week, as 5 of the King players combined for only 3 goals, 4 assists, a -2 1 PPG.  Not to mention the Stars connection of Benn and Spezza had no goals, no assists and -4 combined.  Malkin of the White Mambas earned Number One Star honors  scoring 3 goals, 2 assists and 11 FOW.  Oh and the Mambas one goalie playing Jones won all the goalie categories against the 2 goalies of the Checkers (Bishop and Halak)
Malkin really was Batman last week!

AshBusters vs. USSR 7-2
The first Battle of Russia on Ice was won by the AshBusters as they took 7 of 9 categories.  Pavelski for the AshBusters was the Number One Star of the game getting 2 goals, 2 assists, +3, 2 PPG 3 hits and 2 FOW.  The USSR tallied 146 FOW and need to get some production elsewhere to go along with that.  They were terrible between the pipes as Markstrom had a 4.01 GAA and .882 SV%.
Mouth breather is back

Key match up next week:

Mayhem on Ice vs Goon Crew - Both teams enter the game at 2-0 and want to keep the pressure up in each of their divisions.  Mayhem clearly have edge in goal scorers as the Goon Crew are one of the worst and Mayhem the best.
Happy Halloween!

CFFL Week 7

Mid way point of the regular season in the CFFL and we are in middle of the Home and Home series.  Lets take a look at whats happening in these dreaded Home and Home games...

Great White North

Wrecking Crew 31  Ferrets 25
Janikowski scored 15 points
In the North  it was the Cherry Brothers that took the first game of the Home and Home stretching their lead in the North by 2 games.  Both did it by hanging on during Monday night.  The Crew opened up a 18 point lead on Sunday led by "Fat Kicker" Janikowski's 15 points and a Colt D TD.  The Ferrets would counter with a Falcon D TD to pull with in 12.  Sunday night would put Baldwin and C-Mike vs the Ferrets Wilson and Lockett.  During that brutal Sunday night game none of them would score leaving the game up to Monday night.  The Ferrets had Thomas.  He would get a TD in the first half and needed just one more to win the game.  The Broncos would get many chances but Thomas would not get another score and the Crew held on.

Rivers happy for the win
Chislers 24  Animals 22
In the other game in the North the Animals led the game 22-20 into the second half of Sunday.  Rivers struggled most of the game but did manage to throw one TD to put the Chislers up 24-22.  The Animals went into Monday night with Hopkins and all he would need is either a 2 point conversion or a TD to win the game for the Animals.  The Texans wouldn't see the end zone the entire Monday night game.  So the Chislers held on as well to keep pace in the North.

Eastern Bloc

Roulette 41 Cocktails 19
Rodgers and Adams hook up twice!
The first battle for the Mother Land, held in Leningrad, went to the Roulette in impressive fashion.  They got 12 from Rodgers and two of them went to Adams for a 20 point connection basically.  Then early Sunday 6 more from Austin in London this game was 30-0 before 1pm.  Andrew Luck did manage 12 points but no other player scored except the kicker Sturgis.  The Roulette  win pulls them to within 1 game of the Cocktails.  A sweep would tie them with them.  Cocktails will travel to Moscow to prevent this at the Kremlin.  During the game the Roulette were busy working on a trade with the Ferrets...rumor has it they are working on a deal to obtain Jordy Nelson.  This would give them a rather deadly combination of Rodgers, Nelson and Adams.

Lambo wasn't Lamebo with 15 points
Krauts 31  Juggernauts 20
The Krauts dispensed the Juggs to also pull within one game of the Cocktails.  Lamebo Lambo led the Krauts with 15 points to go along with Kirk Cousins' 10.  Jeremy Hill scored a TD for the Krauts as well.  Keenum was in for the Juggs, which spelled doom for sure for the Juggs as they were relying on him to win a key Home and Home game vs the Krauts.

Sad Sack South

Mayhem 33  Killer Bees 15
The Killer Bees, last week only 2 games back at 1-5 had a disappointing showing to try to get back in the race and drop to 1-6.  The Mayhem had little trouble defeating the lifeless Bees.  Mayhem got 12 points from Brees and 6 each from Delanie Walker and their Chief Defense.  It wasn't completely over going into Monday night as the Bees were only down 12 with Osweiler and Fuller.  Neither would score and the Mayhem would add 6 more points with a TD from C.J. Anderson to seal the deal.
Brees led the Mayhem to victory with 12 points

Dragons 17  Titans 14
The Dragons battled with their brother Titans in a low scoring game.  Neither team got any points from their QBs Manning and Flacco.  Dragons had a lot points from their RBs but only started one of them.  Murray, who started scored 6, while on the bench Forte had 12 and Ajayi had 6.  The Titans, a Dolphin fan, benched Tannehill in favor of Flacco.  Tannehill had 5 points.  Enough to win the game had he started...
Just for the Freeman Brothers...

Wild Wild West

Crush 40  Mafia 22
Gordon earned Player of the Week with 18 points for
Sinistasrs!!
The defending champ Crush continue to win and are now 7-0.  Winston had 12, AJ Green had 6, "Orange" Julius Thomas had 6 and "Mother" Tucker had 10.  Each week it seems the Crush get balanced scoring along his team.  They still have a 2 game lead over the Sinistars, and now a 3 game lead over the Mafia.

Sinistars 55  Bums 27
In a better showing than the past few weeks the 27 points the Bums scored wasn't nearly enough as the Sinistars exploded for 55 points.  Tom Brady would not be the star of this game as Mike Evans caught 2 TDs  and Melvin Gordon, the steal of the draft, picked in the 6th round, scored 3 times.  This gives Gordon 10 TDs already on the season and we are only in week 7.  They remain 2 games back of the Crush, but if the Crush start to falter, look out for the Sinistars.  Run Coward!!

CFHL Week 1

Well the puck has been dropped on the 6th season of the CFHL and the season opened up with one long opening week!  With the new format for the old franchises it was a slightly different feel and leads could change at any given time.  And after all of that, you are either 1-0 or 0-1....
Good to see the Ice Girls back

Goon Crew 6 Assassins 2
After a slow start and team captain Bergeron starting the game with an injury the Crew came on strong at the end to take the game 6-2.  This despite the Assassins racking up 244 Face of Wins (FOW) as they had 5 players in their starting line up taking face offs.  Kesler from the Ducks had 80 on his own!  The Crew took assists by 9 thanks to 7 assists from Getzlaf and 5 from Forsberg from Nashville.  Hits were close but the Crew had a 4 players in double digit hits to Assassins only 2 players. (Backes did have 20 hits).
Good to see the hot hockey wives back (Paige Getzlaf)

AshBusters 8  White Mambas 1
The Mambas after a quick start, faded fast and the AshBusters took a commanding lead with 16 goals to Mambas 12, 24 assists to 17, 55 hits to 38 and 163 FOW to 89.  It didn't help the White Mambas that they didn't replace Murray who is out with a broken hand, with a goalie that actually could be playing.  Taylor Hall and Brent Burns both had 3 goals for the AshBusters and Burns also had 6 assists!  If there was a bright spot for the Mambas, it was Tarasenko who had 4 goals (including 1 PPG) and 3 assists.
Good to see Burns Beard back.

Mayhem on Ice 6  Krampus Carols 3
These two teams lit up the lamp combining for 36 goals in total.  Mayhem got the edge in goals 22-14.  Two players had 4 goals each; Connor McDavid and Wayne Simmonds.  This along with 3 goals from Blake Wheeler and then 5 other players scoring 2 goals each.  Impressive performance.  Not to be completely outdone, Krampus had 3 players net 3 goals each (Duchene, Scheifele and Kreider).  Mayhem also edged the Krampus in hits led by Milan Lucic 18 and Simmonds 17 hits.  Between the pipes the Krampus won that battle with 3 wins from Allen and 1 more from Lehner to go along with GAA of 2.67 compared to Mayhem's 3.19 as Elliott got blasted posting a 4.72 GAA alone.
Good to see the hockey toque back

USSR 6 Slow Icin' 3
The Soviets took care of the expansion team Slow Icin' beating them in Goals, +/-, hits, FOW and GAA and SV%.  USSR got 224 FOW, second only to the Assassins, as they had 5 players taking face offs.  Koivu had 74!  Stamkos for the Red Army led the way with 3 goals and 8 hits, while Barkov had 2 goals, 3 assists and a +5 to go along with his 38 FOW.  In net Slow Icin' performed well in the win category getting 5 total wins between Luongo and Mrazek.  Luongo had an impressive week to go along with the 3 wins was GAA of 1.99 and SV% of .922, however USSR goalie Holtby would not be out done, as he had GAA of 1.98 and SV% of .924...ouch..
Wish I could say its good to see Hotlby back

Who Gives a Puck 5 Checkers 4
In the closest match up of the week, the battle between the only two teams to have their name on the Cherry Cup batted to a close game and came down to the final night.  With the Puck in control of Assits, +/- and both GAA and SV% locked up as neither teams goalies played Sunday, it came down to goals and Hits.  The Checkers had  slim lead 8-6 in goals.  Puck would get 2 goals Sunday from Zach Parise to tie goals.  Then he would get 3 hits, 1 from Parise and 2 from Byfuglien to the 2 hits from Vatanen of the Checkers.  This would tie hits at 53 ultimately giving the Puck the 5-4 victory.  Injuries were the story of this match up as Crosby didn't play the entire game (concussion).
Parise stuffing one of his 2 goals in

So there you have it.  In the Smythe the AshBusters, USSR and Mayhem start the season 1-0 while in the Norris only 2 teams came away with wins to start the season 1-0, the Goon Crew and Who Gives a Puck.
Yep, hockey is back!

This week, the battle of Russia continues as AshBusters take on USSR, while in the CFFL the Roulette and Cocktails battle in football.

CFFL Week 6

After a week off down south in Florida, I'm back with the latest updates in the CFFL...

Cocktails 30  Wrecking Crew 20
After hanging on versus the Roulette 31-26 hoping Benjamin would not score last Monday, the Crew got burned once again Sunday Night for the second year in a row by Luck.  Luck would score 10 points Sunday night to break the 20-20 tie for the Cocktails.  "Boyd" Crowder was a big waiver pick up as the Juggs dropped him even after he scored the prior week.  Whats up with that??  Crew was once again let down by their Raider connection of Carr, Cooper and Janikowski as they only combined for 8 points.  The win moves the Cocktails to 5-1, holding a 2 game lead over the Roulette.
Luck does in the Crew once again

Titans 18  Bums 12
The Titans got their second win of the season beating a lack luster Bums squad.  This after they almost knocked off the Crush the prior week 15-11, leading that game well into Monday night last week.  The Bums scored only 12 points for the second week in a row.  Last week they had both their kicker and QB on a bye.  What has happened to the once proud Bums organization?

Crush 43 Dragons 37
McCoy celebrating one of his 3 scores!
Who can stop the Crush?  They win again to remain undefeated at 6-0.  The Dragons gave them everything they could handle and finally got production out of their 10 point connection of Manning and Beckham as they hooked up for 2 scores!  And despite Crush getting 3 TDs from McCoy this game wasn't over until the final gun on Monday Night.  Floyd scored to pull the dragons to within 6, but they would not get any more scores.  One would have to question, a question that will haunt the Dragons organization's nightmares, the move to bench starting kicker Josh Brown "Eye" in favor of Boswell.  Brown had been the starting kicker all season and was the 11th point in the 11 point connection or affectionately called the stall points when Manning would stall out.  He ended up with 9 points.  Boswell 1.  A move that ultimately cost the Dragons a victory.

Mafia 48 Bees 35
In another barn burner the Mafia came back late in the game (Monday night) down 35-30, with 18 huge points from David Johnson to win 48-35!  This with Stafford's 16 helped the Mafia keep pace with the Crush, but are still 2 games behind.  That is 5 TDs from Johnson in the past 2 weeks.  Last week he had 2 TDs to help the Mafia whack the Dragons 33-22.  The loss was the Bees 5th of the season and now sit at 1-5 in the South.  Sounds like the season's over for the Bees you say?  Well they are only 2 games behind the Mayhem and in the South you never know!
Johnson joined McCoy with 3 scores!

Mayhem 35 Sinistars 33
Brees  threw for 4 scores despite being punched in the neck
The Mayhem held on to beat the Sinistars in a match up between 2 of the best fantasy football QBs in the league over the past 10 years.  They lived up to their expectations as Brady had 12 points and Brees had 16, really the difference in the game.  Sinistars still had a chance with the Jets playing Monday night, but only got 3 points from kicker Folk.  The loss, after a blow out win over the Bees last week 37-11, dropped the Sinistars to 2 games back of the undefeated Crush.

Juggernauts 23  Ferrets 13
The Ferrets played uninspired football Sunday scoring only 13 points, getting nothing from QB Wilson, Lockett, top pick Nelson.  So it didn't take the Juggs much to come away with the victory, but they had to do it late Sunday night as they got 11 points from future CFFL Hall of Famer Vinatieri.  It puts the Ferrets at 2-4, but only a game behind the Crew and the Chislers in the North.  The Juggs remain 2 games back of the Cocktails in the East at 3-3.

Animals 26  Roulette 21 (OT)
The Animals and Roulette battled to a 21-21 tie and this game needed extra time to settle it.  Animals 21 points came from just 2 players on 1 team.  Newton had 15 and Gano had 6 from the Panthers.  No other production could be found on their team.  The Roulette were let down by team captain Rodgers as he threw only 1 TD.  Jamaal Charles came through with a TD and Hopkins had 9 points plus a safety from the Patriots helped the game move into OT.  Animals would win it with a 5 points performance by kicker Jason "Michael" Myers.  Happy Halloween!!
They won the game in OT....or was it kicker Jason Myers??

Krauts 21 Chislers 20
The Chislers lost in brutal fashion to the goose stepping Krauts after scoring 40, 47, and last weeks 51 points they put on the Juggs.  This week they could only manage 20 points, thanks in large part to Crosby's 10 points.  The Krauts would come back a bit each night.  Sunday night 12 points from Lamar Miller wold make the game 20-17.  They then had Catanzaro Monday night.  They would move closer inch by inch, point by point, as the Cardinals would score TD then another, but no FGs.  Would Chisler luck prevail once again and hang on?  Nah.  The Cardinals would score a meaningless TD late in the game and Catanzaro would kick the final XP for the win.  In some countries that's called "Chinese water torture".
It was kinda like this...kinda...eh what?

Well its that time of year once again where the leaves are changing and Fall is in full swing.  What does that mean?  It means the dreaded home and home series.  Lets take a look at what lies ahead...

Wrecking Crew vs. Ferrets...Ever since the infamous "Dallas Clark" trade this has become a nasty home and home.  The Ferrets need the wins to move into the lead in the division.  The Crew need to keep pace with the Chislers and remain in first in the North.

Chislers vs. Animals...Vader vs Luke, Earnhardt Sr vs Junior, eh...you get the idea.  With the Animals only 1 game back this could propel them into first in the North.  The Chislers will be having one eye on the Crew/Ferret games to keep the Crew off their ass.

Roulette vs. Cocktails...Roulette have dropped to 2 games back of the Cocktails and need to sweep this battle of Russia to keep the Cocktails from running away with the east.  Truly a Russian classic that will break rating records in the Mother Land.  Well really because the Russian government will only allow this game to be the only thing broadcast on the the RTN (Russian Television Network).

Krauts vs Juggernauts...With both teams 3-3 a sweep will be critical for either team to keep their division title hopes alive.  Juggernauts have historically been the red headed step child to the Krauts being thrown off by various Kraut propaganda...

Mayhem vs Bees...Mayhem get an easy draw this year taking on the Bees who are 1-5 and could easily open up a big lead in the South.  Bees, who while only have 1 win, are only 2 games back and a sweep here could put them right back in it.

Dragons vs Titans...Brother vs Brother.  Here is where the Dragons need to put together some wins and get back into contention.  They have the team to do and are playing the team that can allow them to do it.  But of course it would make his brother the Titans oh so happy to play the spoiler and ruin the Dragons playoff hopes.

Crush vs. Mafia...Crush just keep rolling on and if they sweep the Mafia will dispense one team that has a chance to catch them.  The Mafia is 2 games back and will need to at least split these games, but a sweep of the Crush will put them in a tie..but no one has been able to defeat the Crush yet.

Sinistars vs. Bums...It would appear this is a great opportunity for the Sinistars as they are going to be playing a Bums team that has only scored 24 points in the last 2 weeks.  They will need those wins in the hopes to catch the Crush.

CFFL Week 4

Well the second week of East vs. North, South vs. West is in the books.  The North fared slightly better this week going 2-2, while in the West continue their dominance of the South going 3-1...

Krauts 40  Wrecking Crew 26....There was no chance that the Crew were going to hold onto their slim lead going into Sunday Nights game as The Krauts scored 27 points between Roethlisberger and Kelce.  Carr managed 16 points but after Ben's 21 it looked rather pedestrian...

Mafia 28 Titans 19...Mafia whacked the Titans and did it with getting only 1 point from QB Stafford.  A pair of TDs from Sanders and Williams along with a D TD from Panthers helped the cause.  Titans still remain with one win..What was the over under on Titans wins this season?  3?  Place your bets...

Bet Chislers wish he had both..
Sinistars 41 Dragons 30...It wasn't like the Dragons didn't have a chance going into Monday Night.  But when Manning, Beckham and Josh Brown Eye combine for only 4 points, that pretty much seals the deal.  Melvin Gordon, to the chagrin of the Chislers, has been the Sinistars early season MVP scoring 6 times in 4 weeks...

Bees 34  Bums 28...Bees were the only team from the South this week to defeat a West team.  While the Bums opened up a nice 20-0 lead before lunch time it wasn't enough as the bees got 12 from Jordan Reed and then 12 more from Fuller (TD catch and TD return)...

Crush D Bills lighting people up
Crush 37 Mayhem 19...Crush are the only undefeated team at 4-0 and just keep rolling.  Repeat is what I am hearing already from the Crush Camp.  Balanced attack from them this week getting 6 points from Winston, McCoy, Thomas, Green and Bills D, who by the way have scored 18 points already this season....

Ferrets 30 Roulette 23...After scoring 65 points last week the Roulette were due for a let down week.  A last minute line up change for the Ferrets proved to be key as they had Bradford in for Wilson, but changed it and Wilson promptly paid off scoring 12 points.  Ferrets owner was uncharacteristically in a good mood during the game...surprising what winning does for a man..

Juggernauts 19  Animals 17...In a game where points came at a premium, the Juggs came away victorious.  The Animals have been seeing their Panthers struggle the past few weeks.  Newton got his bell rung scoring only 6 points and is a question for next week..

Chislers 47 Cocktails 28...This week the Chislers would score 40+ points and actually win.  12 from Brown on Sunday night sealed the deal.  18 from Crabtree earlier certainly helped.  Crabtree now has 26 points on the season.  Compare that to Cooper's 2 points, has the Crew second guessing their draft strategy on draft day...
Crabtree celebrating one of his 3 TDs!!

Player of the Week:  Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Krauts - 21 points
Big Ben cam up big for the Krauts in a game where they needed him to put away the Crew.
Ben was heaving it all over the place!
whoa....
