CFFL Week 7

The Home and Home series are underway and the first round is complete.  These two weeks can make a season or break a season.  Let's take a look at what happen in round 1.

In the North...

Chislers 55  Wrecking Crew 38 - If you told me that the Chislers Bills' players would get shut out, I would think the Crew would have a real good chance to win this game..Not so fast my friend.  Not when he gets 12 from his Chiefs Defense, 13 from kicker Gonzalez and 18 huge points from Lockett.  Murray had 18 wasted points for the Crew in the loss.

Lockett hauls in one of his 3 TDs!

Animals 38  Ferrets 24 - Animals take the first round against Ferrets.  They took a big lead early with 14 points from Wentz, then got 6 FGs from Tyler "Kick his ass sea" Bass.  Love the Drake became, Hate the Drake, as he got injured in the game and may miss several weeks.

Wentz scores one on the ground for Animals!

In the South...

Dragons 28  Mayhem 19 - Dragons were happy to draw the Mayhem this year in the Home and Home and got the first win to take control of the South.  Drew Brees did have 14 points for the Mayhem in the loss.

Killer Bees 19  Titans 17 - Not exactly a high scoring affair, but did have some late night drama.  The Titans trailed Bees 19-9 and really just needed a Goff pass to Kupp for the 10 point connection.  Goff would throw 2 TDs, but not to Kupp.  One was to Reynolds, who was on the Titans bench.  If I've said it before, I've said it a thousand times...start all your Rams!  Bees did have Jimmy Graham going as well for insurance if needed, but good thing he didn't need him as he couldn't find the end zone.

In the East...

Sinistars 39  Juggernauts 20 - Sinsitars move to 6-1 shoring up their line up with some trades that brought Davante Adams, CeeDee Lamb and Kelce to the defending champs.  Adams had 2 TDs in the win and made his impact felt immediately.  The others not much, but give Kelce time.

Adams settling nicely with Sinistars

Krauts 31  Cocktails 26 - Cocktails were involved in trades too, but haven't found the right chemistry yet, losing to the Krauts, who appeared to call it quits.  Aaron Rodgers wasn't ready for that and threw for 16 points in the win!
Rodgers says f' that!

In the West...

Killers 49  Legion 39 - The Killers upset the upstart Legion and are not going to go away quietly.  In fact they even made a trade for Todd Gurley, who scored twice, even though he just wanted to score once...Tom Brady seems to be finding his old groove again, as he hit for a whopping 22 points!  Not to be totally outshined was rookie QB for Legion "Smoking" Joe Burrow who threw for 18 points!

Gurley...oops...

Crush 36  Whales 19 - Crush get only their second win of the season.  Players like Derek "Charlie Check Down" Carr, Benny "and the Jets" Snell and Diontae "Rocket" Johnson out played the big names of  the Whales of Mahomes, Carson and Kittle (all combined for 4 points).

Johnson has a little Kraut in him as he goose steps into end zone

Player of the Week:  Tom Brady, QB, Killers - 22 points.

CFFL Week 6

Six weeks in the books already!  It has been an interesting beginning to the season, with games postponed, Monday Night Double Headers and Tuesday Night Games.  But the CFFL keeps trucking on.  Now that I am back from Florida the blog is back up and running.

Since I was gone, here is a very brief look at Week 5 before we jump into Week 6...

Week 5
Mayhem 48 Crew 37 - Mayhem upset Crew in shoot out behind 12 big points from Thielen
Goff with a big spike...sort of

Ferrets 26 Bees 24 - Ferrets hang on to beat Bees.  Bees see star QB Prescott go down with gruesome ankle injury
Chislers 38 Dragons 36 - Another nail biter sees Chislers score two TDs late by Allen to win it!
Titans 19 Animals 15 - Animals fall to the Titans.  Titans get 14 of their 19 points from Goff!
Sinistars 20 Legion 9 - Sinistars didn't score much but didn't need to.  12 from Russel would have done it.
Cocktails 53 Whales 36 - Despite 15 points from Mahomes the Whales fall to the Cocktails.  Only one player didn't score for Cocktails.
Juggernauts 36 Killers 23 - Going all in on Buccaneers might not have been that wise for Killers.
Crush 36 Krauts 17 - Story of the week: Chase Claypool's 4 TD day for Crush!

Player of the Week:  Chase Claypool, WR, Crush - 24 points

Onto Week 6:

Is it too early to see the playoff picture start to develop?  No one is mathematically eliminated yet, but it might be safe to say that Mayhem, Krauts, and Crush are pretty close.  Chislers only undefeated team pretty much in driver seat, along with Crew and Sinistars.  Bunch of teams 4-2 or 3-3 still in the fight.  Even at 2-4 don't give up yet!

Wrecking Crew 32  Killer Bees 24 - Crew hang on as these two teams traded punches late, with Bees getting 8 points from Kicker Butker to take lead while Crew kept coming up empty until Murray took the field and scored 14 points!
Murray scored 14 big points for the win!

Dragons 34 Ferrets 14 - After a heartbreaking loss to Chislers last week, the Dragons got things back on track easily handling a flat Ferret team.  Watson had 16 points and included a pass to Fuller for a 10 point connection.
Watson led Dragons to victory with 16 points!

Animals 39  Mayhem 31 - Animals get a big game out of Wentz (finally) with 16 points but it was The Drake that decided this game.  Trailing the Mayhem 31-27 late in the game, ball on the one, time slipping away.  "Love the" Drake plunges in from one yard out to win the game!!  He would then add a 69 yard TD run at the end of the game.   (69...hahahaha).
Love the Drake!

Chislers 50 Titans 26 - This game was close and actually slightly in question for a minute.  Score was 30-20 in favor of the Chislers.  Titans still had Amari Cooper in the late game and if he could hold the Chislers Bills from scoring they would have a chance.  Yeah, I don't think so.  Allen would then throw two 10 point connections; one to Diggs "Dig Dug" and one to Cole Beasley "Reese".  Game over.
These two guys...enough already

Iron Legion 52  Krauts 4 - The Berlin Wall has fallen.  What has happened to the once mighty Krauts.  This week the Legion, after looking mediocre at best last week scoring only 9, rip off 52 points this week led by a receiving group that scored 40 points! (Cobb-6, Jefferson-14, Kirk-12, Graham-8)
Jefferson becoming one of the great young talents

Juggernauts 32  Crush 26 - Crush drop to 1-5 despite Matt Ryan's 16 points.  Claypool continues to shine, while not scoring 4 times he did score another TD, but all for naught.  Juggs didn't have great production, but didn't need it when your kicker Koo scores 16 and QB Jackson another 10.
Younghe Koo...Cream Sum Younguy.

Cocktails 23 Killers 22 - Cocktails had to come back late with two scores from Kelce to win the game.  Killers couldn't get a TD from RB Singletary late in the game.  It wouldn't have been close at all had Cocktails started back up Tannehill who threw for 17 points on the bench.
2 scores for the win

Whales 44  Sinistars 17 - The Whales handed the Sinistars and defending champs their first loss of the season in impressive fashion.  Pure efficiency.  When every one of your players scores besides your D, you have squeezed everything you can out of your line up.  The Whales did that.  The Sinistars did not.
Mahomes leading this upstart Whales

Player of the Week:  Carson Wentz, QB, Animals - 16 points

This Week we look at the top 5 teams in the league according to the Herd Hierarchy:

Number 5:   Iron Legion 4-2, 208 points - Surprise team of the year with plenty of young talent

Number 4:  Molotov Cocktails 4-2, 246 points - Need to chose the right QB and could be big contenders.

Number 3:  Jakes' Juggernauts 4-2, 241 points - With Lamar we trust but must show more consistency

Number 2:  R.C. Wrecking Crew 5-1, 227 points - Need CMC back and CEH to score.  That happens this team is scary.

Number 1: Cherry's Chislers 6-0, 288 points - Who else? Team with 6 titles and now is undefeated, leading the league in points with a loaded roster led by Allen and the Bills.

Who missed the top 5?
Sinistars 5-1 - Only 177 points scored and last three games: 19, 20, 17.  In Wilson they trust.
Whales 3-3 - Scored 227 points with the last 4 being 44, 44. 36, 44.  Keep an eye on this team.

Big two weeks coming up as we enter the dreaded divisional home and home series.  What's on tap?
Those are certainly 2 big "weeks"

None bigger than the Chislers/Crew series.  6-0 vs 5-1.  Longest rivalry in the CFFL.  Brother vs. Brother.  Will go a long way deciding who is in the driver seat in the North.

Who has it easy?  Whales do playing Crush.  Could sweep and move up standings.  Cocktails do playing lifeless Krauts.

Who has it tough besides the Chisler/Crew series?  Sinistars playing Juggs.  Better not get swept here.

Now let's go out there and have some fun!

CFFL Week 4

After 4 weeks there are still 3 teams that are undefeated (Crew, Chislers, Sinistars) and 2 teams winless (Mayhem and Crush).  There is a log jam at the top of the South with 3 teams tied at 2-2. Still a long way to go.  We even have a team doing a fire sale (albeit way to early) that ends up scoring the most points he has all year!

Here is Week 4's action:

GAME OF THE WEEK:  Chislers 47  Killer Bees 46 - What a barn burner this was and ended in exciting fashion!  This game had a little bit of everything in it.  First the Killer Bees came out firing early with 19 points from Prescott and 18 from Joe Mixon!  Chislers were down big, but his Bills players hadn't played yet.  Allen would get his customary double digit points (14) and throw a TD pass to Cole Beasley "Reese" for a 10 point connection.  Game was 41-40 for the Chislers going into Monday Night.
Mixon scoring one of his 3 TDs

With the CCP Wuhan Virus scare with the Patriots, there were some concerns about the NE/KC game being played.  This might have affected some decisions in the line ups...at least I sure hope so...Regardless, late Monday night, Aaron Jones would score a TD for the Bees to take the lead 46-41! Butker was kicking some FGs too...wait...He started Lion kicker Prater instead..wait what?  With the game seemingly in had, and the Chislers only having the KC D, it looked like the Bees would prevail.  Enter "Chisler Luck".  The KC defense would end up picking off a pass, late in the game returning it for a TD and the win 47-46!!
Honey Badger clinches Chisler victory with Pick 6

TRADING LOCKER ROOM CANCER:  Ferrets 57 Mayhem 39 - Funny how a team's identity can change by just trading away a player.  Lamar Jackson just wasn't meshing with the locker room and it was time for him to go.  Ferrets were 0-3 and giving up.  They trade Jackson and then score 57 points! Andrews scored 12 and newly acquired TE Robert Tonyan (who?) scored 3 times!

This is Tonyan...best get to know him!

TEAM TO BEAT or BAD BEAT? Juggernauts 59  Whales 44 - It would appear that the Juggs are quickly becoming the team to beat, after trading for Lamar Jackson, who would in turn score 14 points, then Chubb gets hurt so Jugg RB Hunt is becoming main dude.  He scores 12.  OBJ coming alive, he scored 18.  I don't think we will see the Juggs score only 14 points like last week again.  The Bad Beat?  The Whales scoring 44 points and losing...
OBJ has come alive!

Ryan trying to explain why he couldn't muster any points
AROUND THE LEAGUE...Crew hang on against the Titans winning 25-12 behind 12 points from Murray.  Titans got only 10 points from their Rams, even though he started all three of them this time...Dragons knock off Animals 26-23, starting Fitzpatrick over Watson this week. Nick Chubb suffered a knew injury that will keep him out several weeks....Sinistars win a defensive battle with the Crush 19-11.  Wilson was more pedestrian scoring 8 points.  Crush still scratching their head wondering how they didn't come back and win that game having Matt Ryan, Edelman and Watkins all playing Monday night (all scoring 0 points)...Cocktails got things rolling defeating the once undefeated Iron Legion 39-25 behind 12 points from Gordon and 13 points from kicker Blankenship...Finally the Killers scored enough points to survive the blitzkrieg of the Krauts on Monday night.  Tom Brady had 20 points and Latavius Murray had 12 for the Killers.  Krauts threw everything they could on MNF as Rodgers threw for 16 points and Todd Gurley ran in 2 scores...

Player of the Week:  Tom Brady, QB, Killers - 20 points

This week's guest prognosticator is Mitch Moss, co-host with Pauly Howard of Follow the Money on VSiN.

"What are we doing here?"

Guest Picker Standings:
1. Mike Palm 5-3
2. Pauly Howard 4-3-1
3. Matt Youmans 3-4

Week 5 games:

Wrecking Crew at Mayhem (+4) - Crew remain undefeated and cover
Ferrets at Bees (+8) - What's going on here?  Take home Bees and 8 points!
Chislers at Dragons (+8) - Another big home dog?  Take the dog!
Animals at Titans (-9) - Game could get ugly, lay the points and take Titans
Sinistars at Legion (PK) - Might be the game of the week.  Sinistars prevail!
Cocktails at Whales (-2) - Another good one, lay the 2 and take the Whales.
Juggernauts at Killers (+14) - 2 TDs?  Brady getting 14 points.  Take Killers!
Krauts at Crush (+2) - Krauts keep Crush winless.
