CFFL 2021 Week 3

Then there were 2.  We only have 2 teams that remain unbeaten after only 3 weeks.  The Crew and the Sinistars.  The Sinistars have quickly opened a 2 game lead in the East with the rest of the division 1-2.  The three top scoring teams are from the North...

Here is what happened last week in the Cherry Fantasy Football League...

Wrecking Crew 36  Iron Legion 22 - The Crew managed to get the victory despite their leading scorer Kyler Murray scoring only 6 points after scoring 18 and 22 the last two weeks.  The running game is brutal and they left 12 points on the bench.  Thank you Mike Williams for the 14 huge points late in the game!

Williams scores 14 points for the Crew

Crush 44  Animals 25 - The Crush get their first win of the season with an explosion of points.  Stafford threw for 4 TDs and Ja'Marr "Dropsies" Chase may need to change nickname to "Sticky Fingers" as he hauled in 2 TD passes and has seemed to gotten over the dropsies.  The only points Animals scored was from their QB and special teams (kicker and D).  That's not going to get it done.

Stafford becoming a fantasy stud

Chislers 53 Killers 28 - Chislers dropped a 50-burger on the Killers, second time the Killers have given up 50 points.  The Killers didn't have a chance.  The Chislers came out firing from the gun and never looked back.  Josh Allen looks to be back on track scoring 22 points this week!  Cooper Kupp scored twice and is one of the leagues leading WRs.

Kupp is the CFFL leading WRs with 30 points!

Ferrets 25  Whales 24 - The Ferrets upset the Whales, handing them their first loss of the year.  Justin "Pizza Face" Herbert had a huge game scoring 17 points for the Ferrets.  They were able to survive the Mahomes and Hill connection as Hill did not score.

Herbert tosses for 17 points for the Ferrets!

Sinistars 34  Warbirds 7 - The battle of the unbeatens turned out to be a snoozer.  The Warbirds were truly just whirlybirds getting only one TD pass from Lamar and just 3 points from kicker Hopkins.  Sinistars in turn got 14 points from their kicker McManus and that alone would have been enough to beat the Warbirds.

Derek Carr becoming the leader for the Sinistars

Killer Bees 25 Cocktails 24 - A close one over in Russia.  Bees led by 1 19-18 going into Sunday Night, but would get some breathing room as Aaron Jones scored a TD early.  Cocktails had Trey Sermon who would score to pull them to within one again, but the Bees would hang on for the win.

Jones scores the eventual game winner

Juggernauts 35  Dragons 29 - This game actually was a wild one, with lots of drama.  Dragons took an early lead 29-11 behind 13 points from kicker Justin "Mother" Tucker, which included a NFL record 66 yard field goal that hit the cross bar and went through!  It could have been 41-11 if Marquise "Hollywood" Brown didn't drop two easy catches for TDs!  Be that as it may, the Dragons had to try to survive the Jugg's Cowboys (Prescott, Elliott and Zuerlein) Monday night.  It started out okay as Elliott scored a TD, but then on the next drive it looked like the Juggs got an 11 point sideways connection.  It was overturned and called down at the one.  So Dak decides to sneak it in, which was called short on 4th down, even though the replay looked like he might have crossed the goal line.  Well the Dragon's luck would eventually run out, as Elliott would score again and Prescott would throw for 2 more TDs.

Dragons' WR Brown couldn't hang onto the ball

Opening the door for these two to mount the big comeback

Titans 28  Krauts 24 - The Titans upset the Kruats behind 12 points from Tannehill.  It was a good bounce back week for Tannehill who had ZERO points last week.  The Krauts got a modest week from Rodgers (8 points) and their star WRs (AJ Brown, Hopkins and Andrews) all came up blank.

Tannehill bounces back with 12 points for Titans

Player of the Week:  Josh Allen, QB, Chislers - 22 points

CFFL 2021 Week 2

Week 2 divisional games continued.  Thrillers in the North.  3 teams lay a 50-burger on their opponents.  And a team gets 29 points from a kicker and defense...

Wrecking Crew 39  Chislers 37 - The Chislers seemed to have this game in control in the first half taking a 37-15 lead behind Cooper Kupp's two TDs.  But then the Crew mounted a furious 2nd half comeback behind Kyler Murray throwing and running in TDs.  He would finish with 18 points!  The Crew still had to survive Sunday Night and Sammy Watkins, but were able to keep him out of the end zone and they held on for the win to go 2-0!

Murray channeling his inner Zen on scoring 18 points!

Animals 43  Ferrets 41 - Similar game, as the Animals took a huge lead in the game, 43-5 but like the other northern game, the Ferrets mounted a comeback to almost win the game.  King Rat Tail Henry had a monster game scoring 3 times to help the Ferrets get back into the game, then got a pick 6 right of the gate on Sunday night making score 43-35. Ferrets just needed 2 TDs from TE Tonyan.  He got one early, but wouldn't find the end zone again and the Ferrets come up short, dropping to 0-2.

Gronk smash!  4 TDs already

Warbirds 52  Dragons 26 - The expansion Whirlybirds are 2-0!  They dropped 52 points on the Dragons in an early battle for the South division lead.  They were led by 16 points from their QB Lamar Jackson.  Didn't hurt that they got 12 from their kicker Hopkins.  A disappointing loss as home for the Dragons, but they will be in the hunt with Wilson and Lockett connection, who connected again for a 10 point play.

Jackson is head over heels with a 2-0 start for Whirlybirds

Killer Bees 54  Titans 11 - Fifty-burgers were the special on the menu this week as the Bees thumped the Titans.  This game was over before Monday Night, but that is when Aaron Jones went off for 4 TDs!  Barkley definitely having a slow start to the season and hasn't found the end zone yet.  Cephus has been a pleasant surprise though for the Titans, scoring for the second week in row.

Jones celebrating TD number 3...he would score one more...

Sinistars 35  Juggernauts 26 - Sinistars move to 2-0, playing with a chip on their shoulder after being snubbed by the preseason predictions.  Juggernauts got a TD each from their backs of Elliott and McCaffrey but didn't have a lead big enough as Chris Carson scores twice late in the game to give the Sinistars the win.  They would add 6 more from Kelce that night.  Juggernauts drop to 0-2 and are going to need much more production from their Cowboy connections.

Carson wins it for the Sinistars

Krauts 38  Cocktails 17 - Not a great day for the Cocktails as they really came out flat against their rival Krauts getting 10 points from Mayfield and only 1 point from their kicker.  Not sure would have made much difference though, as Kraut QB Rodgers fired for 4 TDs on Monday night.  Both teams are now 1-1, a game behind the Sinistars.

Rodgers has a nice bounce back game

Killers 41  Legion 23 - After the Killers bitching about Brady not throwing it to Evans, Brady finds Evans for 2 10 point connections for the Killers as they ran away from the Legion, winning 41-23.  Brady ended up with 5 TD passes and now already has 9 on the season!  He is Benjamin Button for sure.  He looks better than he did 20 years ago!  The Legion A+ rated backfield of Ekeler and Kamara scored only 2 points.

Brady and Evans finally hook up...twice!

Whales 53  Crush 35 - Hard to beat a team that scores 29 points from its kicker and defense.  That was the case for the Crush against the Whales as the Whales would get 17 points from kicker "Bat" Gano (kickers are fantasy football players too) and two pick-6 from their Buccaneers' defense.  Then you throw in Mahomes and it's nearly impossible to beat a team that scores 29 with kicker and defense.  Mahomes would finish with 12 points.

Whales D scores on two pick 6s

Player of the Week:  Aaron Jones, RB, Bees - 24 points

Next week's action...Will the Crush, Ferrets, Juggernauts or Titans avoid dropping to 0-3? My money is on the Ferrets and the Titans dropping to 0-3 as they play the Whales and Krauts respectively.  Crush certainly could beat the Animals, while the Juggs will be playing the Dragons.

Game of the Week:  Warbirds (2-0) at Sinistars (2-0) - An early match up between unbeaten division leaders.

CFFL 2021 Week 1

As we embark on our 37th year of Cherry Fantasy Football League greatness we lose another franchise, for what reason, I don't know, but we gain yet another new franchise, the Weiland's Warbirds, or Whirlybirds...

The traditional divisional game match ups kick off the season.  Here is what happened, as you definitely want to get that first divisional win under your belt.

Cook back at it for the Chislers
Wrecking Crew 50  Animals 48 - Despite these two teams suffering major injuries to their running game before the season started, they ended up one of the highest scoring teams of the week.  The Crew managed to hang on to win behind 22 big points from Kyler Murray, as the Animals came up 2 points short with Waller scoring just one TD late.

Chislers 32  Ferrets 19 - The defending champion Chislers had little trouble defeating the Ferrets 32-19.  The Ferrets got a disappointing opening game from Number 1 pick Derrick "King Rat Tail" Henry, who couldn't find the end zone.  Old Chislers from last year had an average game, Allen only had 1 TD pass and Cook 1 TD run.

Dragons 55 Killer Bees 12 - Dragons were top scoring team of the week as they pounded their hated rival the Bees.  Russell Wilson hit Tyler Lockett twice for 2 10 point connections!  Ironically the only starting players on the Dragons that didn't score were Dolphins...

Dragons cash in on two TDs by Lockett

Thielen scores twice for Cocktails
Warbirds 26  Titans 21 - The expansion Whirlybirds win their debut game against the Titans.  It wasn't a stellar performance by any means, but when you play the Titans you don't need one typically.  The only points the Titans got were from their Kicker and QB.  Guess if they get any production out of their RBs or WRs, they might be fine.

Cocktails 45  Juggernauts 29 - The Juggs had run out to an early lead behind their Cowboys Prescott and Zuerlein, who combined for 23 points.  Unfortunately, they wouldn't get much more scoring and the Cocktails would get 12 points from Thielen and 2 TDs from Josh Jacobs "Jingleheimer Schmidt after the game was already over.

Sinistars 35 Krauts 28 - The Sinistars came back to win the game late, trailing 28-27 to the Krauts, after the Krauts got 12 points from Hopkins (interested in a trade?) and 6 each from AJ Brown and Montgomery "Burns".  Sinistars needed just 1 TD pass from Derek Carr.  It didn't look like they were going to get anything from Carr as he seemed to over throw all his WRs.  However he would eventually find the end zone on two deep bombs to win the game 35-28!

Carr was pumped after his come from behind win!

Iron Legion 45  Crush 32 - Legion took early lead and never looked back.  12 points from Cooper and 6 from Godwin gave them an early 18-0 lead.  Legion running attack didn't disappoint as Ekeler and Kamara both scored TDs.  A bright spot for the Crush was the performance of QB Matthew Stafford, who threw 3 TD passes, despite lots of question marks to start the season.

Cooper helps the Legion defeat the Crush

Whales 39  Killers 31 - The Killers tried to hang on against the Whales but just couldn't survive the Mahomes/Hill hurricane.  Getting a big lead to start the game with 16 points from "Good Ole" Tom Brady plus a Joe Mixon TD just wasn't going to be enough.  Mahomes would end up with 18 points including a TD pass to Hill for the dreaded 10 point connection.

How did Mahomes score this TD??

Player of the Week - Kyler Murray, QB, Crew - 22 points

Next week... Huge match ups in the North and South.  The most storied rival in CFFL history takes place as the Chislers take on the Crew.  Winner gets early edge in the division.  In the South, while not very storied, the Dragons and Warbirds battle for first place.  In the East the Cocktails renew their rival with the Krauts and will try to hand them their 2nd loss in a row...
