CFFL Week 12 2021

Two weeks in the regular season to go.  One division has been clinched.  The rest are completely up for grabs.  The Crew are the King in the North, clinching the North division.  South is completely open between Titans, Bees and Dragons with the Titans up one game.  East is completely open with the Krauts holding a one game lead over Cocktails and Sinistars, and the same out West with the Killers holding a one game lead over the Legion and Whales.  A lot can happen in the next two weeks of divisional play!

But let's see how things played out last week...

Wrecking Crew 42  Cocktails 41 - This was a slug fest that went back and forth all day long and wouldn't be determined until the final play (almost).  Things got started on Thanksgiving Day with a Jacobs "Jingleheimer Schmidt" TD for the Cocktails, but Crew would counter later with two Dawson "Fort" Knox TDs which was a late substitution for Lamb.  They would match TD runs again from Harris for the Crew and Taylor for the Cocktails.  Thankfully that would be the only TD Taylor would score after scoring 5 TDs last week.  Thielen would get 2 more TDs for the Cocktails, but the Crew would counter once again with 2 from Deebo "Dabo Sweeney" Samuel.  Stafford would score 13 points for the Cocktails. But the game was still tight.  Cocktails led 41-39 with Stafford driving again.  However it would end in a Matt GAY! FG for the Crew to win it with only seconds on the clock.

Knox finds the end zone twice for Crew

Dragons 42  Crush 26 - This game was close of a quick minute.  Crush led the game 26-24 after getting 10 points from Joe Burrow and a TD from "Firemouth" Friermuth.  Led by Myles Gaskins's 2 TDs, the Dragons still had Tucker and Wilson.  Down only 2 all it took was the first score in the Sunday Night game with a 52 yard FG from Justin "Mother" Tucker to win the game.  Now he would score 7 more points and Russell Wilson managed 8, so the Dragons had lots of ways to win this game.

Gaskins stretches across the goal line scoring 2 times!

Titans 24  Iron Legion 13 - The luck finally ran out on the Legion this week.  Titans led late in the game 24-6 but the Legion were not out of it yet with a QB and a Kicker from Washington (Heinicke and Slye).  Heinicke would only throw 1 TD and Joey Slye would have only 3 points and pull up lame with a  hamstring after a blocked XP.

Taylor threw 2 TDs for the Titans!

Whales 28  Warbirds 12 - The Warbirds returned to their Whirlybird ways scoring only 12 points.  The Whales had little trouble with the Whirlybirds behind Cam Newton?  While it was a Sad Cam day in the NFL it was a Happy Cam day in the CFFL.  He did score 6 points and wanted everyone to look at him do his Superman antics.  Westrbook-Ikhine finally scored a TD!

Kind of Happy Cam...kind of Sad Cam...

Killers 23  Killer Bees 13 - In the Killer Bowl, the Killers defeated the Bees behind 12 points from Joe Mixon.  This is the 4th straight week the Mixon has scored 2 TDs!  He has 13 TDs on the season and is 3rd in scoring for RBs.  He has helped the Killers continue on as Tom Brady has cooled off a bit from earlier this season.

Joe Mixon scores twice...again for Killers!

Ferrets 53  Juggernauts 28 - The Ferrets had a huge day now that they are pretty much out of the playoff race.  This seems to happen once the pressure of the season is off of them, they begin to play really well and are poised to play spoilers to finish the year.  Leonard Four "Touchdown" nette scored 4 times and Patterson added 2 more.  They dropped a fifty-burger on the now hapless Juggs.

Patterson gets in the end zone twice for Ferrets

Krauts 35  Chislers 31 - Chislers couldn't hang on in this thriller that would be decided late Sunday Night.  Josh Allen seems to be back in high CFFL form as he scored 16 points for the Chislers after a 10 point week last week.  Krauts countered nicely with 14 points from Aaron "Sgt. Hulka Big Toe" Rodgers.  The Chislers led the game 31-29 going into Sunday Night and the Krauts only player left was Mark Andrews.  He would eventually score the game winner for the Krauts catching a 13 yard TD pass for the win!  Chislers playoff hopes not over yet but are dwindling.

Rodgers showing off his "Sgt Hulka Toe"

Animals 24  Sinistars 11 - Not often you win a game with just points from your kicker and your defense, unless your opponent only scores 11 points.  The Animals ended up with 18 points from their Kicker Nick "The Dick" Folk who kicked 5 FGs and a 100 yard kick return from their Cowboy D.  Last week the Sinistars dynamic duo of  Kittle and Kelce helped the Sinistars to victory.  This week Kelce was on a bye and Kittle came up empty and the Sinistars would only manage to score 11 points.

Nick "The Dick" kicked 5 FGs for the Animals!

Player of the Week:  Leonard Fournette, RB, Ferrets - 24 points

Playoff Picture:

Division Leaders                        Wildcard
x-1. Wrecking Crew 10-2          5. Animals 7-5 (412)
2. Killers 8-4                              6. Cocktails 7-5 (392)
3. Krauts 8-4                              7. Whales 7-5 (387)
4. Titans 6-6                               8. Legion 7-5 (365)

In the Hunt
Sinistars 7-5 (283)
Chislers 6-6
Bees 5-7
Dragons 5-7

Key Divisional Race Games Next Week:
Krauts at Cocktails - The Krauts march up north again from Berlin to Leningrad to try to sweep the Cocktails.  They beat the Cocktails 38-17 back in Week 2, but this is a very different Cocktails team than earlier this season.  Krauts win the East with a victory and a Sinistar loss.

Iron Legion at Killers - The Killers are looking to clinch the division with a win.  They defeated the Iron Legion in week 2 41-23 with 32 points coming from Brady and Evans.  They have been quiet lately and would like to see a repeat performance.

Titans at Killer Bees - Well Titans here is your chance to just about wrap up the South.  With a win  and a Dragons loss the Titans win the South.  However if they lose and the Dragons win there is a 3 way tie for first in the South and the Titans would have the worse divisional record.  Last time the Bees and Titans met the Bees thumped the Titans 54-11!

Good luck everybody!

CFFL 2021 Week 11

The division races are heating up!  The Crew are still in control of the North and just need to win to clinch.  They lost last week and with the Chislers and Animals winning 2 in a row, this division is not over yet.  The South, living up to its Sad Sack name, have two teams tied for first with losing records (Bees and Titans) with the Dragons one game back.  The East, traditionally the toughest division, has a three way tie at 7-4 between Krauts, Cocktails and Sinistars.  And the West is a three team race with Killers and Legion, both on 5 game winning streaks, lead at 7-4 with the Whales close behind at 6-5.  Who will feast on who this Thanksgiving weekend and take control of the divisions?

Here is last week's action:

Sinistars 27  Wrecking Crew 21 - The Crew could not hang on and appear to be struggling with Murray out the last few weeks.  Conner keeps on trucking however with a TD, but the Sinistars were able to come back getting two TDs from their TE duo of Kelce and Kittle (not to shabby) and then on Sunday Night Dustin Hopkins kicked 11 points for the win.

How Sinistars manage to land both these guys?

Titans 41  Crush 23 - The Titans thumped the hapless Crush getting 12 points from Davante Adams and Zach Ertz plus kicker Boswell late.  Crush did manage to get a TD again from Pat "Firemouth" Freiermuth.  Titans are making a run at the Sad Sack South and will face a tough match up against the West leading Legion next week.

Ertz helped in the Titans victory!

Iron Legion 57  Warbirds 38 - This was a barnburner.  The Legion came out strong taking an early 18-0 lead with 12 points from their Patriot D.  Game was close late with the Warbirds leading the Legion 28-27.  Ekeler would score to give the Legion a 33-28 lead, but the Warbirds countered with a Diontae "Rocket" Johnson TD taking the lead back 34-33.  But that was it as the Iron Legion took control and Ekeler would score 3 more times putting the game away!

Ekeler scored 24 points for Iron Legion!

Whales 7  Killer Bees 6 - You got to be kidding me!  This has to go down in the CFFL record books as the lowest scoring game in history!  7-6? I mean you tell the Bees that the Whales will only score 7 points you would think "Great! Easy win!"  Wrong.  When Atlanta gets shut out that spells doom for the Bees who have Matt Ryan and kicker Younghoe "Cream on Sum Yung Guy" Koo.  One TD by Terry "Midi-chlorian" McLaurin and one measly XP by kicker McLaughlin was all it took.

Maybe McLaurin does have midi-chlorians in his blood..

Killers 42  Dragons 28 - The Dragons hung in there on Sunday at least leaving the day tied at 28-28.  However none of the Killer's Buccaneer players have played yet.  The Killers did get 2 TDs from Joe Mixon on Sunday, but Monday Night is where they won the game.  The first Brady TD pass put the game away.  Of course they wouldn't stop there getting another pass to Evans for a 10 point connection.

Joe Mixon gets in the end zone twice for Killers

Animals 43 Krauts 39 - What a QB battle this was.  Kraut QB Aaron Rodgers would throw for 16 points on a bad toe.  But Animals' QB Jalen Hurts would RUN for 3 TDs for 18 points.  Hurts becoming a great fantasy QB.  The running attack for the Animals helped too with Chub "Chub chub chub.." and Robinson scoring as well.  Krauts lose their second in a row and find themselves in a dog fight for the East Division crown.

One of Hurts three RUSHING TDs!

Chislers 31  Juggernauts 15 - The Chislers win again and no one wants to see them or face them in the playoffs.  Allen finally got back to double digits with 10 points in the win and Justin Jefferson caught 2 TD passes.  They play the fading Krauts next week and with a win could definitely put themselves in good shape for a playoff run.

Jefferson celebrates one of his two TDs

Cocktails 57  Ferrets 18 -  It was the Jonathan Taylor show Sunday as he ran for 5 TDs tying the record for most TD runs in a game in CFFL history.  He tied Clinton Portis "The Tortoise" who scored 5 times in 2003 for the Bees, Shaun Alexander in 2002 for the Crew and Jamal Charles "In Charge" in 2013 for the Bums.  Pretty good company.  Oh and the Cocktails got 18 points from the great Trevor Siemian.

Player of the Week:  Jonathan Taylor, RB, Cocktails - 30 points!

Playoff Race:

Division Leaders                             Wildcard

1. Wrecking Crew 9-2                    5. Iron Legion 7-4

3. Krauts 7-4                                   7. Sinistars 7-4
4. Killer Bees 5-6                            8. Animals 6-5

In the hunt
Chislers 6-5
Whales 6-5
Titans 5-6
Dragons 4-7

Thanksgiving Weekend Games of the Week:

Wrecking Crew at Cocktails - Cocktails try to hand the Crew their second loss in a row and take control of the Eastern Bloc.  Forecast in Leningrad is temps in the 20s with a 75% chance of snow!

Animals at Sinistars - Animals look to win their 3rd in a row to keep their playoff hopes alive while the Sinistars need to keep pace in the East.  Forecast in London is 40s with chance of rain (big surprise).

Chislers at Krauts - Two of the most successful franchises square off in Berlin with playoff hopes in the balance.  Forecast in Berlin calls for highs in the mid 30s with 71% chance of snow.

Advantage goes to the home teams in the East!

Happy Thanksgiving!

CFFL 2021 Week 10

We are heading down the stretch with only 4 more games left.  2 more interdivision games and then the final games against divisional opponents.  Anything can happen in the next 4 weeks.  It's time to take a look at the playoff picture and who is in the hunt (see end of article).  The Wrecking Crew are close to clinching the North with a 4 game lead with 4 to go.  A Crew can clinch with a win this week.  Rest of the divisions are still up for grabs.

But first let's take a look at last week's action...

Wrecking Crew 22  Krauts 10 - The Crew got lucky this week squeaking by the Krauts who had trouble finding points.  Aaron Rodgers was back off the Chinese Communist Party Wuhan Virus list, but came up empty.  The Crew were without Murray for the second week in a row and decided to start McCoy instead of Jimmy G, which turned out to be a big mistake as Jimmy G threw two TD passes to Deebo "Dabo Sweeney" Samuel who was also on the bench.  Fortunately "A..B.." CeeDee Lamb "Chops" scored twice for the Crew in the win.

Lamb scores 2 big TDs for Crew

Warbirds 28  Crush 3 - What?  Warbirds actually played like Warbirds and not Whirlybirds?  They actually did getting TDs from Zack Moss, Callaway, and "Dig Dug" Diggs.  The Crush were completely depleted, getting only 3 points from their kicker while rest of the players were shut out.

Dig Dug hauls one in for the Warbirds

Killers 50  Titans 20 - Killers dropped a fifty-burger on the Titans after somewhat of a slow start.  Brady hit Evans again for a 10 point connection.  Rookie DeVonta Smith is starting to become a good fantasy WR and scored twice for the Killers.  Only players to score for the Titans were their kicker and QB.

Rookie DeVonta Smith starting to come on for the Killers

Iron Legion 19  Killer Bees 11 - Iron Legion got lucky this week as well pulling off the win with no Kamara and Tyler Boyd on a bye.  Austin Ekeler was able to score the only TD for the Legion.  With their starting QBs of either Mayfield or Fields, this team may not go far if they make the playoffs.  Just saying...

Ekeler celebrates his TD with a little guitar action!

Whales 57  Dragons 10 - Welcome back Whales and Mahomes!  After a slump the Whales and QB Patrick Mahomes lit it up and landed a fifty-burger on the Dragons.  Mahomes threw for 5 TDs and connecting with Tyreek Hill for two 10 point connections.  AJ Dillon scored twice for the Whales as well and could see more touches in the red zone going forward.

These two hooked up twice for the Whales

Sinistars 28 Ferrets 15 - The Sinistars held off the Ferrets who got 11 points on Sunday Night from kicker Butker.  But the Sinistars would get two TD passes from Carr that night and then a TD catch from K.I. "TT Boy" L.E Monday.  Ferrets also were playing shorthanded with Uzomah still in the line up on a bye, but like most of the "leave them in" gaffs it wouldn't have made a difference.

Carr managed to score twice for Sinistars

Animals 47  Juggernauts 28 - The Animals had a good day keeping their playoff hopes alive.  Cousins had 8 points for the Animals while Henry Hunter scored twice in the win.  Even the defense got in the act as the Cowboy D blocked a punt for a TD.  All 28 points for the Juggs came from their two Cowboy players Prescott and Elliott.  Too bad they can't find any other players to contribute.

Henry scores twice for Animals

Chislers 23  Cocktails 19 - The Chislers hung on against the Cocktails late into Monday night.  With the Chislers facing Cocktails' QB Stafford and having a narrow 8 point lead they were nervous.  They did have counters to Stafford in Jefferson, Kupp and Henderson.  Stafford would not have a great day, but his first (and only) TD pass went to Higbee making it 23-19 and looking for more.  Jefferson dropped a TD pass.  But the game would end 23-19 with Stafford not getting another point.  He may be a little disgruntled being traded from the Crush in sunny California to the Cocktails in gloomy miserable Russia...

Josh Allen had a much better week this week scoring twice

Player of the Week:  Patrick Mahomes, QB, Whales - 20 points

CFFL 2021 Week 9

There were some exciting comebacks in the CFFL this week and we are starting to see some separation in the North.  The Crew have won 5 in a row and are now 8-1 leading the North by 4 games already.  The Krauts and the Cocktails continuing to win in the East.  Krauts hold a 1 game lead over Cocktails and the Sinistars are not too far behind.  The South and the West are still all pretty close.  Even the Whirlybirds at 2-7 not out of it yet...

Here is last weeks combination of close calls, comebacks and blowouts:

Wrecking Crew 48  Juggernauts 8 - Not sure what the Juggernauts were doing here, but they didn't even start a QB.  Although it wouldn't have mattered if he did.  The Crew dominated this game, without Murray.  They were led by James Conner's 3 TDs.  He now has 11 on the season and leads all RBs in TDs.

Jimmy G had 8 points in for Murray

Crush 33  Killer Bees 32 -  This was a monumental comeback!  After trading away two of their best players (Metcalf and Stafford) they finally got a win.  Maybe they got rid of locker room cancer.  Regardless they still trailed 32-6 late in the game.  The Crush would need a big night from its Steeler players.  And man did they get it.  Najee Harris started things off with a TD run, and the Freiermuth "Firemouth" scored two more times!  Add 9 more points from kicker Cairo Santos "Todd Chontos" and you have a one point victory!

Firemouth!!

Killers 41  Whirlybirds 21 - No Brady.  No Evans. No Problem.  The Killers would get 11 points from back up QB Teddy "Two Gloves" Bridgewater and 12 points from Joe Mixon.  Plus they go pick up old man Peterson, put him in the starting line up and boom he scores.  The Whirlybirds did get 12 points from Lamar Jackson, but wasn't nearly enough.

Joe Mixon continues to produce for the Killers

Iron Legion 27  Dragons 16 - In another curios line up, the Dragons left Tua in who would not start.  Not that he had much of a choice with his back up QBs on bye (Wilson and Geno Smith).  Baker Mayfield threw for 8 points for the Legion and Kamara found the end zone for the 3rd straight week.

Baker gets great protection and throws 2 TDs

Titans 21  Whales 15 - In a lackluster game the Whales lost their 4th in a row after starting the season 4-1 and looking like the team to beat.  Both teams only got points from their kicker and QB.  Whales were leading 15-10 going into MNF and was hoping to hold on and survive Titan kicker Boswell. Boswell kept kicking FGs and soon had 11 points to finish the night and give the Titans the win.

Boswell kicks 11 to win the game!

Sinistars 29  Chislers 6 - After blowing the doors off the Animals last week, the Chislers came out flat and could only muster 6 points from their kicker.  Allen, Cook, Kupp all came up empty.  The Sinistars starting things out with a pick 6 by the Browns D and never looked back.  Melvin Gordon would even get in the action with a TD.

Gordon scores TD in the Sinistar win

Cocktails 35  Animals 34 - This was a shoot out.  Back and forth these two teams would go.  Cocktails taking early lead with 2 TDs from Taylor on Thursday.  Then it was the Chubb Chubb Train for the Animals as Chubb would get 2 TDs of his own.  Before you know it its 34-31 for the Animals heading into the Sunday night game.  The Cocktails would only need one Stafford TD pass to win the game.  No problem, right?  Well Stafford would struggle all night.  And it really looked like he might not find the end zone.  But just as time was running out, Stafford was able to throw a TD pass in garbage time for the Cocktail win!  On a side note, had Animals started Cousins instead of Hurts they would have won easily.  Cousins had 14 points vs. Hurts' 4.

Taylor scores 2 early TDs for the Cocktails

Krauts 31  Ferrets 22 - This game much closer than the score indicates.  Ferrets led this game late 22-19 and it would come down to MNF.  Both of their QBs played a great game.  With Rodgers out with the Chinese Communist Party Wuhan Virus, the Krauts started Wentz who would get 12 points early.  Ferrets answered with Herbert's 15 points. But trailing by only 3 points and having Darnell Mooney, they would only need one TD.  They would get 2 from Mooney and the win.

Mooney Mooney Mooney scores game winner!

Player of the Week:  James Conner, RB, Wrecking Crew - 18 points
