CFFL 2021 Week 11

The division races are heating up!  The Crew are still in control of the North and just need to win to clinch.  They lost last week and with the Chislers and Animals winning 2 in a row, this division is not over yet.  The South, living up to its Sad Sack name, have two teams tied for first with losing records (Bees and Titans) with the Dragons one game back.  The East, traditionally the toughest division, has a three way tie at 7-4 between Krauts, Cocktails and Sinistars.  And the West is a three team race with Killers and Legion, both on 5 game winning streaks, lead at 7-4 with the Whales close behind at 6-5.  Who will feast on who this Thanksgiving weekend and take control of the divisions?

Here is last week's action:

Sinistars 27  Wrecking Crew 21 - The Crew could not hang on and appear to be struggling with Murray out the last few weeks.  Conner keeps on trucking however with a TD, but the Sinistars were able to come back getting two TDs from their TE duo of Kelce and Kittle (not to shabby) and then on Sunday Night Dustin Hopkins kicked 11 points for the win.

How Sinistars manage to land both these guys?

Titans 41  Crush 23 - The Titans thumped the hapless Crush getting 12 points from Davante Adams and Zach Ertz plus kicker Boswell late.  Crush did manage to get a TD again from Pat "Firemouth" Freiermuth.  Titans are making a run at the Sad Sack South and will face a tough match up against the West leading Legion next week.

Ertz helped in the Titans victory!

Iron Legion 57  Warbirds 38 - This was a barnburner.  The Legion came out strong taking an early 18-0 lead with 12 points from their Patriot D.  Game was close late with the Warbirds leading the Legion 28-27.  Ekeler would score to give the Legion a 33-28 lead, but the Warbirds countered with a Diontae "Rocket" Johnson TD taking the lead back 34-33.  But that was it as the Iron Legion took control and Ekeler would score 3 more times putting the game away!

Ekeler scored 24 points for Iron Legion!

Whales 7  Killer Bees 6 - You got to be kidding me!  This has to go down in the CFFL record books as the lowest scoring game in history!  7-6? I mean you tell the Bees that the Whales will only score 7 points you would think "Great! Easy win!"  Wrong.  When Atlanta gets shut out that spells doom for the Bees who have Matt Ryan and kicker Younghoe "Cream on Sum Yung Guy" Koo.  One TD by Terry "Midi-chlorian" McLaurin and one measly XP by kicker McLaughlin was all it took.

Maybe McLaurin does have midi-chlorians in his blood..

Killers 42  Dragons 28 - The Dragons hung in there on Sunday at least leaving the day tied at 28-28.  However none of the Killer's Buccaneer players have played yet.  The Killers did get 2 TDs from Joe Mixon on Sunday, but Monday Night is where they won the game.  The first Brady TD pass put the game away.  Of course they wouldn't stop there getting another pass to Evans for a 10 point connection.

Joe Mixon gets in the end zone twice for Killers

Animals 43 Krauts 39 - What a QB battle this was.  Kraut QB Aaron Rodgers would throw for 16 points on a bad toe.  But Animals' QB Jalen Hurts would RUN for 3 TDs for 18 points.  Hurts becoming a great fantasy QB.  The running attack for the Animals helped too with Chub "Chub chub chub.." and Robinson scoring as well.  Krauts lose their second in a row and find themselves in a dog fight for the East Division crown.

One of Hurts three RUSHING TDs!

Chislers 31  Juggernauts 15 - The Chislers win again and no one wants to see them or face them in the playoffs.  Allen finally got back to double digits with 10 points in the win and Justin Jefferson caught 2 TD passes.  They play the fading Krauts next week and with a win could definitely put themselves in good shape for a playoff run.

Jefferson celebrates one of his two TDs

Cocktails 57  Ferrets 18 -  It was the Jonathan Taylor show Sunday as he ran for 5 TDs tying the record for most TD runs in a game in CFFL history.  He tied Clinton Portis "The Tortoise" who scored 5 times in 2003 for the Bees, Shaun Alexander in 2002 for the Crew and Jamal Charles "In Charge" in 2013 for the Bums.  Pretty good company.  Oh and the Cocktails got 18 points from the great Trevor Siemian.

Player of the Week:  Jonathan Taylor, RB, Cocktails - 30 points!

Thanksgiving Weekend Games of the Week:

Wrecking Crew at Cocktails - Cocktails try to hand the Crew their second loss in a row and take control of the Eastern Bloc.  Forecast in Leningrad is temps in the 20s with a 75% chance of snow!

Animals at Sinistars - Animals look to win their 3rd in a row to keep their playoff hopes alive while the Sinistars need to keep pace in the East.  Forecast in London is 40s with chance of rain (big surprise).

Chislers at Krauts - Two of the most successful franchises square off in Berlin with playoff hopes in the balance.  Forecast in Berlin calls for highs in the mid 30s with 71% chance of snow.

Advantage goes to the home teams in the East!

Happy Thanksgiving!
