CFFL FB XXXVI Preview

The stage is set for Fantasy Bowl XXXVI.  Facing off will be one team playing in its first ever Fantasy Bowl and another team playing in a record 12th title game.  This game is truly a David vs. Goliath match up.

Here is how they got here:

Cherry's Chislers 54  Kretz Krauts 35 - CHICAGO - On the cold windy fields of Soldier Field, the Krauts came in unafraid and unimpressed by the Chislers.  Goosestepping to a commanding 35-20 lead behind an MVP like performance by Aaron Rodgers late Sunday Night.  Montgomery added a TD and Greg the Leg kicked 13 points.  The Chislers got a disappointing performance out of their potent running attack of Cook and Henry.  Cook only had 1 TD, while the Vikings had several redzone drives.  Henry came up empty Sunday night.

Rodgers threw for 16 points in the snow

It would come down to Monday Night.  Josh Allen and Stephon Diggs.  He would need 16 points to win the game.  Could it be done.  Of course it can.  Allen had 16 points on his own and threw 3 TD passes to Diggs for 3 10 point connections, and the Chislers won going away!

Allen and Diggs hooked up 3 times!

Monclova Dragons 29  Molotov Cocktails 24 - MIAMI - Was it the heat and humidity that slowed down the red hot Cocktails?  Coming from snowy Leningrad, the Cocktails spent 2 weeks in sunny Florida.  Either it was the humidity or the night life at South Beach.  But they didn't put up the points like they usually do.  Dragons needed a big day from Deshaun Watson and got 12 points from him and a surprising 10 points from "Boyd" Crowder.  Rookie RB Taylor scored twice, but with Jacobs refusing to score and getting 0 from their WRs of Hill, Hilton and Andrews the Cocktails were in trouble.

Watson came up big for Dragons

Sunday night brought Tannehill and Gostkowski to the table needing 18 points to complete the comeback.  Last week Tannehill scored a record 26 points.  Could he do it again?  Tannehill threw a TD pass and then ran one in. They only needed 6 more points!  Another Tannehill run, or a FG from Gostkowski and a TD pass and it was over.  Time was running out.  The Dragons held firm and kept them out of the end zone rest of the way to win and advance to their first Fantasy Bowl in 21 years!

Tannehill came up 6 points short

Fantasy Bowl XXXVI
Monclova Dragons at Cherry's Chislers (-17)
Soldier Field, Chicago
Forecast: Partly Cloudy 32 degrees

This could be one of the most lopsided Fantasy Bowls to date.  In one corner we have the 6 time champs playing in their 12th Fantasy Bowl, coming off a 30 point performance from Allen and Diggs.  In the other corner are the Dragons, playing in their first Fantasy Bowl, limping into the title game with injuries and suspensions.  Let's break down the match up for Fantasy Bowl XXXVI.

QB:  Chislers are led by Josh Allen, who was not on anyone's radar during the draft, but as a former Chisler back up last year, he certainly was on the Chislers radar.  He ranks 2nd in the league with 194 points and has scored 20 and 16 points past two playoff games, which already ranks 4th most points in the post season all time with one more game to go.  The question will be how long the Bills will keep Allen in the game.

Deshaun Watson leads the Dragons into flight and had an up and down season.  Only 6 weeks was Watson able to score in double digits.  He will need a huge game once again if the Dragons are going to have a chance.

Advantage:  Chislers

RB:  This was a strong point of the Chislers all year with a one two punch of Cook and Henry.  Cook and Henry are #2 and #3 in RB scoring in the league.  King Henry the Rat Tail can easily score 2 TDs.  However the Chislers have been thrown a curve ball as Dalvin Cook will not be available for the game as he is dealing with a family emergency.  Cam Akers is nursing an injury and may not be ready.  So the Chislers may be going single back formation.

Dragons' RBs have been bitten by the injury bug as Raheem Mostert was placed on IR leaving only
D'Andre Swift and Malcom Brown.  Swift, a rookie this year, has shown signs of greatness, but he also has some clunker games.  Which Swift will show up?  Will Brown get some playing time?  Lots of questions for the Dragons.

Advantage:  Chislers

WR: Chislers seem loaded at WR with studs like AJ Brown and Stephon Diggs.  Brown has 10 TDs on the season and is a beast.  He can score at a moments notice.  Diggs, surprisingly only has 8 scores on the season, three last week.  But what makes him dangerous is the 10 point connection he creates with Allen.  Tyler Lockett is another threat but hasn't scored since Week 11.  They have viable back ups too, with Ebron, Beasley "Reese" and "Christina" Agholor.

This game might be different had the Dragons had all their WRs available.  Aiyuk, who was starting to come on toward end of season, will be out.  Will Fuller was a great 10 point connection with Watson, but was suspended.  DeVante Parker has been out last two weeks and will have to play hurt.  Then you got Curtis Samuel and Dan Arnold.  Eh boy.

Advantage: Chislers

Kicker/ ST/D:  Chislers will be going with Sanders kicking and the Chiefs D/ST, which are always a threat to run back a punt or kick.  Dragons appear to be starting Cairo Santos "Todd Chontos" and the Ravens D, which are a threat for a defensive score.

Advantage:  Even.

Outlook:  It's hard for me to make a case for the Dragons.  Their only hope might be if the Chislers end up having some players rest.  Watson will need to keep up with Allen, Swift with Henry, and hope that no TD passes Allen throws goes to Diggs.  Then maybe, just maybe the Dragons pull off the upset.  But I fully expect the Chislers to win their 7th title and build an addition to his house for all their trophies... Chislers 48-27
