2007 would see two franchises playing in their very first Fantasy Bowl. One team was one of the original franchises to start the CFFL, Fez's Ferrets, formerly known as the Wening's Wimps. They along with the Crew and Chislers, are the only teams left from the very first season in 1985 and form the CFFL Council. The Ferrets had some rotten luck over the years but in 2007 they were bound and determined to change their fortunes and win their first championship in 23 years. They put together a potent passing attack with Tony Romo (36 TDs) and Terrell Owens (15 TDs), which created a dangerous 10 point connection, and Marvin "Light Bulb Head" Harrison who had 10 TDs. Ferrets would beat the Bees 28-10 and then the Twins 20-18 to move on to their first Fantasy Bowl.
The Krauts entered the league in 2002 and quickly became a team to reckon with. Their Gestapo type management of their team made them a danger to play every week. They won the east with a modest 8-6 record and commanding their troops was Peyton Manning, who would throw for 31 TDs on the year. Colston and Boldin created a pretty good passing attack as well. Fantasy Bowl XXIII could be an aerial circus.
Colston scores twice in FB XXIII |
Someone forgot to tell Manning and Romo that it was Fantasy Bowl Sunday, as both players came up empty in Fantasy Bowl XXIII. The WRs for the Krauts however would not disappoint, as Colston would score twice and Boldin and Santana Moss both added a TD. The Ferrets were let down by their best players. Along with Romo, neither Owens or Harrison would score. The Krauts would become victorious on the field of battle in Fantasy Bowl XXIII winning 38-28 earning their first title for the Fuher.
