CFFL History: Fantasy Bowl XVIII

In 2002 the Chislers were back, and they are beginning to have a storied history of heart breaking losses in the Fantasy Bowl.  This year would be no different.  They would win the North with a record of 11-3.  The Chislers would win a defensive battle with the Bombers in Round 1 12-7 and then beat the Twins in the semis 34-10 behind 12 points from Tiki Barber.  Thankfully Barber was able to step up in the playoffs since league MVP Priest Holmes did not play the entire playoffs for the Chislers.

They would face the Killer Bees, who made the playoffs as a wild card and then thumped the Krauts 72-35.  They were led by 24 points from Clinton Portis.  Portis was a first round pick for the Bees and everyone thought that was a joke.  The Bees got the last laugh.  Bees would sneak past the Maulers 20-18 in the semis to play the Chislers in Fantasy Bowl XVIII.

Portis had a huge playoff run for the Bees

Fantasy Bowl XVIII

This game may go down as the closest FFL championship ever! The Chislers started the scoring with 10 from Drew Bledsoe and 7 from Joe Nedney to lead 17-0 late in the first half. The Bees countered with 5 from Tom Brady to close within 17-5 at the half.

In the second half, the Bees got two huge touchdowns from Clinton Portis very late in the game to tie the game at 17. Very late in the fourth quarter, the Bees took the lead, thanks to Jeff Wilkens leg! The Bees led 21-17 when Isaac Bruce scored late for the Chislers to give them the lead 23-22! The Bees then tied it at 23. And with only seconds remaining, they got one final point from Jeff Wilkens to win 24-23! The Chislers walked off the field stunned! Wilkens had been the Chisler kicker last year, and now he sticks a dagger in their hearts! The Bees won their first FFL championship in their first appearance in the FFL championship game!

Priest Holmes was the 20020CFFL MVP
for the Chislers, scoring 24 TDs in 14 games!
