CFFL History: Fantasy Bowl XX

2004 brought about the 20th Anniversary of the CFFL and Fantasy Bowl XX.  Would it be a rematch of the classic Fantasy Bowl from the prior year between the Cherry Brothers?  The Chislers would win the North with a 13-1 record, led by Tomlinson once again, but they would fall one game short losing to the Crickets 55-29.  The Crew, who brought back Peyton Manning, added Stokely and GATES!, but just like the Chislers they would fall one game short losing to the Mafia 44-37 in the semis.

The Crickets were led by a hall of fame class of Brees, Fitzgerald and Gonzalez.  They would hammer the Krauts 44-14 and then the Chislers to move onto their 3rd Fantasy Bowl hoping to get their third championship.  Little did anyone know at the time, this would be the final season for the Crickets.

The Mafia made it to Fantasy Bowl XX behind the running of Shaun Alexander, who would finish the season with 20TDs.  They beat the Bees in a thriller in the first round 47-44 before defeating the Crew to make it to the Championship.

Fantasy Bowl XX would be a close one but it was supposed to be a classic dual between Drew Brees and Tom Brady.  Instead it was a classic match up between Brian Griese and Kyle Boller.  Wait, what?  The Mafia would get a TD late from Shaun Alexander, but Crickets kept chipping away at the lead with kicker Jason Elam.  He ended up with 15 points and just needed one more FG to win but would not get an opportunity and the Mafia prevailed 27-26 to win it's first Fantasy Bowl title!

Crew QB Manning was 2004 CFFL MVP
throwing for 49 TDs!
