CFFL History: Fantasy Bowl XVII

2001 brought about Fantasy Bowl XVII and an old name back to the Fantasy Bowl.  The Clark's Crickets, who won Fantasy Bowl I were back in the big game.  Kevin "Al Davis" Clark had finally put together a team that brought the proud Cricket team to a chance at another Championship.  They were led by Peyton Manning and Ahman Green.  Crickets would move past the Mafia and the Twins on their way to Fantasy Bowl XVII.

The Bums would win the west at 9-5 behind the legs of Marshal Faulk, who scored 128 points on the season.  They would beat the Crew in a shootout 52-43 behind 12 points from Faulk and Aaron Brooks.  In the Semis they rolled the Power 40-17.

Fantasy Bowl XVII

CRICKETS 26 BUMS 12

The Crickets rolled to a rather easy win over the Bums to capture their second championship, their first being in the first year of the league, 1985.

Peyton Manning scored 8 points and Ahman Green came up big with 12 points to lead the Crickets to a 20-0 half time lead

Ahman Green scored twice in the Fantasy Bowl

In the second half the Bums had Marshall Faulk, but he only got them 6 points and that spelled doom for the Bums. Aaron Brooks and Holmes were both shut out. Plus the Bums had no healthy kicker, not good.

The Crickets got 6 more from John Hall and the Bums got a late 6 points from their Raven defense...but it would not be enough.

Before the game,

Al Cricket Davis said, "Just win, baby."

And George Chirpp said, "Go out there and win one for the Chirpper."

The Crickets came through for both of them.

Jeff "Homo" Garcia was CFFL 2001 MVP
He had 32 passing TD and 5 rushing!
