Hard to believe we have played 6 weeks already. (Feels like longer for me...) and we have a long way to go yet. Not even Christmas yet and we play till April! That's good for some of those teams that are sitting in last place. Lot of time to catch up, but they better start moving.

Get your Checker gear soon! |
Lets take a look at the 4 division leaders and how they fared this week....
Norris Division: Cherry's Checkers
Well what a surprise. The defending champion Checkers who are the only Cherry Cup Champs are sitting in first place in the Norris divison with 42 points, 4 points ahead of the Assassins and are now the #2 team in the league. The rich get richer. This all despite their 3-2-1 loss to the SLVB this week. It would have been worse if it wasn't for the Checker's Blackhawk connection. That's right, I said Blackhawk, not King connection. Be Saad and Seabrook both tallied goals on Sunday to tie goals at a pretty pathetic 5 each. Where the Checkers dominated was the +/- where they had a +11 to the Killer Smurfs 0. Killer Smurfs took a page form the Checkers Championship manual going all in on one team, the Canucks. Along with the Ginger Twins they added Jason Garrison on D who had a goal and 3 assists!
Smythe Division: Fluffy Bunnies
|
First 1,000 fans got this lovely souvenir |
The Bunnies clearly are making a case for the team to beat, and have been embarrassed the past two years as being the fantasy hockey guru and not winning a title. Well they have 49 points with the next closest is 7 points back. Maybe the most interesting point about this team is that they have Kunitz again, who they traded Stamkos on draft day because they kept Stamkos but they weren't suppose to, so they kept Kunitz, who the Checkers drafted meaning it was Stamkos not Kunitz with the understanding that the Bunnies would trade Stamkos to Checkers for Kunitz....eh what?....Now Stamkos is out with a broken leg and Kunitz is having his best year of his career and has 17 goals. This week Who Give a Puck gave the Bunnies a run for their money tying them in goals at 9, assists at 12 and winning PIM. If it wasn't for the goal tending of the Bunnies, the Puck might have gotten away with an upset. Carey Price was big for the bunnies getting 3 wins and a .943 SV%
Patrick Division: USSR
|
USSR and Ovechkin all about the Red Army |
The Patrick Division is a tight race and as of now the old Soviets USSR have the one point lead over the Enforcers. The USSR are rightfully lead by Ovechkin who is finally having a year he has always been drafted for. He already has 22 goals on the year and 20 PIM. Along side of him is Logan Couture of the Sharks who has 19 assists on the year and Jiri Hudler of the Flames who also has 19 assists. This week they dispensed the AshBusters with superior D play winning +/-, PIM, and both goalie categories for the 4-2 win. Grease ball Luongo had 3 wins in the victory and a .960 SV% for the week.

#21 Roussel a true Enforcer |
The Enforcers, only a point behind in the Patrick Division, had a nice bounce back from the prior week winning 5-1 over a completely beat up Krampus team. The Krampus have one guy on IR and three others that are Day-to-Day. Ouch. Enforcers got 3 goals from Getzlaf, Kesler, and Parise. Ryan Getzlaf so far has been the Enforcer's MVP with 16 goals, 20 Assists and a whopping +13 on the year. Oh and can they enforce? Sure can with Antoine Roussel who has a goon like 70 PIM on the season.
