CFHL 2021-22 Update

Happy Holidays from the CFHL

Wait, what is this?  Yes it is an CFHL update.  Only the second one since the season started.  With the CFFL in full swing it was really difficult for me to keep up with 2 every week.  Plus this has been a strange season with the Chinese Wuhan Virus and the Common Omicron.  (and nothing to do with the fact my team completely sucks...honest).

But let's take a look at where we are at thus far this season, who are the top teams, and what we have left in the season to look forward to, plus how am I ever going to get the Cherry Cup back from the Mayhem on Ice???

Currently the top two teams, well top three teams, reside in the Cherry Division.  The Assassins, Raisins and Empire are currently one, two, three in the league.  Assassins and Raisins clearly ahead of the rest with 83 and 80 points respectively.

The Assassins are second in both Goals and Assists and tops in Power Play Points. It helps when you have the leagues best player, Connor McDavid.  He has 19 goals, 34 assists and 22 PPP.  He leads the league in both assists and PPP.  Matthew Tkachuk not to shabby either with 14 goal and 14 assists.  Morgan Riley on the blue line has been solid with  23 PPP and 10 assists.  In net Shesterkin "My yerken" has been a pleasant surprise this year having 15 wins and a SV% of .936.

McDavid leads the Assassins

It's no surprise then, that the next best team, the Raisins, would have McDavid's teammate Draisaitl.  He leads the league in goals and has 21 PPP, only one behind McDavid.  Jonathan Huberdeau leads the team with 30 helpers.  This team is just well balanced with 8 players with double digits in both goals and assists.  The Raisins are right there with top net minding getting 15 wins from Demko and 14 from Lehner.

Rounding out the Cherry division is the Greek Empire (not a Cherry by the way) and then the Cherry Brothers, Goon Crew and Checkers.  The Greek Empire lead the league in assists and SV%.  They have 5 players sporting 20 or more assists each led by defenseman Adam "Crazy like a" Fox, who has 28.  Markstrom and Jarry have been solid in net with .930 and .932 SV% respectively.

Anybody remember the sit com "Crazy Like a Fox"?
(aired 1984-1986)

The once proud Checkers and Goon Crew are a shit show.  The Crew are one of the worst teams in the league and have the absolute worst goal tending.  They are last in both categories by far.  Koskinen is the best goalie they have and the only one with more than 10 wins.  Top pick Pastrnak has been disappointing thus far and might have been a poor choice considering what was available at the time.

Pastrnak bewildered at his start to the season

The Checkers have come on with two consecutive winning weeks, but not nearly the force they have been in the past winning several Cherry Cups.  They have the leagues worst power play unit tallying only 46 PPP.  But they will punch you right in the mouth leading the league in hits with 547, which is 139 more than the next team!  Radko Gudas and Ramus Ristolainen both have over 100 hits each.

Radko a beast

In the Smythe the Who Gives a Puck lead the White Mambas by 3 points.  Puck actually tries, I think, and the White Mamba I don't believe really pays attention and yet somehow he is in contention.  They actually lead the league in goals!  Having 7 players in double digit goals helps, although 3 of them are on the bench.

Who Gives a Puck are led by Kaprizov who has 13 goal, 26 assists and 7 PPP.  Mikko Rantanen has been huge too with 15 goals 18 assits and 13 PPP.  They are kind of middle of the road in most categories, except for SV%.  Teams can score goals on their net minders and they have the second worst SV% in the league.  Cam Talbot is probably their best goaltender with 15 wins and .909 SV%.

Rantanen of the Puck

Rest of the division is sub .500.  Krampus Carols boast the most goalie wins with 34 between Frederik Anderson and Vasilevskiy.  That is what keeps them in games.  They only have one player with more than 20 assists and more than 10 PPP (Quinn Hughes).   The Mayhem on Ice not much better ranked 2nd to last in goals.  Only two players in his starting line up have double digit goals.  Sitting on the bench he does have some fire power in Kadri and MacKinnon.  I'm beginning to wonder if anyone has been paying attention to their lineups or even care.  Dead last in the league is the expansion Space Monkey Mafia.  And they have Ovechkin.  A team with Ovenchkin shouldn't be in last place!

Vasilevskiy has kept the Krampus alive

With so many games getting postponed it will be an interesting finish to the season.  This begins Week 12 of the 25 week season, so just about half way.  Anything can happen.  This week we have the two divisional leaders facing off (Assassins and Puck) while the Raisins might gain ground on Assassins as they play Space Money Mafia.

If you haven't been paying attention, get in there and change your line ups and let's finish the season strong!  Go Goon Crew!! Time of a second half of the season comeback!
