CFFL Fantasy Bowl XXXVII

FANTASY  BOWL XXXVII

Kretz Krauts 51  Alex's Animals 22

Fantasy Bowl XXXVII would be played in snowy Orchard Park between two wild card teams.  The Animals from the North got the pleasure of playing in their home stadium finishing the regular season with a record of 8-6. They came in with an easy win against the Titans 31-12 and Sinistars in the semis 41-25.  The Krauts battled for the East division title only to come up short to the Cocktails finishing 8-6 as well.  They would however defeat the Cocktails 42-24 in the first round and then the Whales 44-29.  So the stage was set between the Animals and Krauts in the 37th edition of the CFFL Fantasy Bowl.

Before the sell out crowd at Highmark Stadium could find their seats, the Krauts would waste no time getting a quick 2 yard TD run from David Montgomery "Burns" to make the score 6-0.  Not long after that another Bear would score.  Mooney would catch a 4 yard TD pass and suddenly the score was 12-1.  Montgomery "Burns" would score yet another TD making the score 18-4 all in the first quarter.  The Krauts were rolling getting bonus points from players you wouldn't expect.  Things would settle down, but by halftime the Animals only managed 4 more points from Nick "The Dick" Folk and nothing from QB Jalen Hurts.  Halftime score 18-8.

Montgomery celebrates his 2nd TD!

The second half wouldn't start out much better for the Animals.  Krauts drove down the field again and Rashaad Penny would score from 15 yards out and kicker Prater would add a FG making the score 27-8.  The sold out Animals crowd was silent and shell-shocked by the Kraut blitzkrieg attack. With another Penny TD it was getting ugly making the score 33-8.  Where were the Animals??

Penny had a huge game for Krauts!

This was a game not led by the superstars of the CFFL, but of the back ups to the back ups.  The Animals would finally show a little sign of life as St. Brown "Eye" would score a TD catch and an 8 point play to make the score 33-22.  Could the Animals mount a comeback?  Not bloody likely.  Kraut Kicker Matt Prater would finish with 4 FGs and 13 total points making the game 43-22.  Animals would need a shut out of Rodgers on Sunday night followed by a huge game by running back Nick Chubb "Chubb, Chubb, Chubb"...

St. Brown tried to make it a game for Animals

This would not be.  Rodgers tossed two TD passes on Sunday night making the score 51-22.  Animals would need a 5 TD performance from Chubb.  Not unheard of but very unlikely. Clinton Portis, Shaun Alexander and Jamal Charles all have scored 30 points in regular season games.  Charles also holds the record for most points in a playoff game in Round 1 of 2013 of 30 points.  However the record for most points by a running back in a Fantasy Bowl is 24 by Steven Jackson in 2006.  Could Chubb make history and stage an amazing comeback for the Animals?  Nah...  Chubb wouldn't even see the end zone Monday Night.

Rodgers would manage 2 TD passes for Krauts

The Krauts, who flew all the way from Berlin would emerge victorious 51-22 and win their 3rd Fantasy Bowl championship tying them with the Wrecking Crew for second most titles.  Both of course are way behind the Chislers' 7 Fantasy Bowl Trophies.  This give the Krauts their third Fantasy Bowl victory over a team from the North.  First defeating the Ferrets in FB XXIII and then the Crew in FBXXV.

The Krauts had protected last year's MVP Aaron Rodgers, which proved to be helpful and in Round 2 grabbed A.J. Brown and Hopkins.  With a multitude of draft picks the Krauts utilized their Kraut Sheets well.  And it turned out two of the unsung heroes of FB XXXVII were drafted in rounds 3 (David Montgomery) and round 13 (Darnell Mooney)!!  Congratulations to the Krauts!

But the season is not over yet.  We have one more week and if you recall the commissioner's preseason email we are all playing in Week 18 for the Memorial Cup and free entry next year.  How it works is submit a starting line up for Week 18.  The highest scoring team will get free entry next year.

We will also compete as divisions for the Memorial Cup.  The most points scored by the starting line ups in each division will win the Memorial Cup honoring past owners we have lost (Jennifer Cherry of the Jewels, Steve Machcinski of the Stooges, Burt Carlson of the Bums and Rich Johnston of the Roulette).  So don't forget to set a line up for next week!

Stay tuned for the CFFL 2021 Awards in the next coming days!
