CFFL Week 1

The 2016 CFFL season has begun!  The opening week saw 4 fifty-burgers, come back wins, close calls and OT finish!

GAME OF THE WEEK: Dragons 29  Bees 25

The Bees and Dragons battled to the very end into OT.  The Bees connected on a 10 point connection as Osweiler hit rookie Fuller for a TD.  While the Dragons didn't get the 10 point connection out of Manning and Beckham, they did get 12 from Eli and 12 more from Murray, debunking critics thinking Murray was a product of the Cowboys O line.  Dragons led 25-14 late in the game.  Bees had Gostkowski Sunday night and he kicked 11 big points to tie the game at 25!  It would come down to Bees' Jordan Reed vs Dragons' DeSean Jackson.  Jackson would have a few close calls going deep,  but ultimately neither player scored.  In OT Dragons had chance at first blood and had one TD pass from Cutler for the win!

Chislers 33 Ferrets 23 - The Chislers held on to win their game opener versus the Ferrets but it wasn't all that easy.  Opening up with a 10 Point sideways connection helped though as Philip "Jughead" Rivers hit Danny Woodhead for a TD. 9 more points from kicker Crosby, as the Ferrets only got 6 from Nelson and Lacy, plus a late 2 point conversion from Crabtree.  But the Ferrets wouldn't go away quietly as they got 6 from Abdullah "oblagata"  and 7 points from Prater, put them up 23-21.  However Chislers had 2 of the best players in the CFFL, Antonio Brown and Todd Gurley.  Brown wouldn't disappoint scoring 2 TDs.  Good thing because Gurley truly did disappoint.  Chislers came away with the victory 33-23,


Wrecking Crew 39  Animals 30 - The Animals came out like they were shot out of a cannon scoring 18 quick points between Newton and kicker "Bat" Gano.  They would get a TD catch from Hopkins and a TD run from Mathews.  But the Crew's QB Carr hit on a late TD pass and 2 point conversion to take the lead for good 33-30.  Doug Baldwin would add a meaningless TD to make the final 39-30.

Sinistars 30 Mafia 24 - This game was a back and forth battle, with the Sinistars taking the early lead as Gordon scored twice making the score 12-0.  The Mafia would fire back in the second half with 8 points from Stafford and 6 points frmo Hauschka taking the lead 14-12.  Moncrief would then score for the Sinistars taking back the lead 18-14.  Stafford would throw another TD to tie the game at 18.  Going into Sunday Night Garoppolo would throw one TD for Sinistars reclaiming the lead 22-18!  Could this be it??  Well not yet!  Mafia would then strike back taking the lead as David Johnson would run one in making it 24-22.  Only one more player left Monday night, Sinistar Kicker Boswell.  His 8 points would give the Sinistars the win...finally 30-24.  whew...

The 50-burgers - Roulette racked up 50 points on the Krauts led by Aaron Rodgers' 14 and 12 late points from Carlos Hyde...Cocktails put up 50 on the Juggernauts and they needed every one of the points winning 50-41.  Andrew Luck scored 17 for the Cocktails and seems ready to return to his MVP performance of 2014...Mayhem put up 50 on Titans, not a surprise.  Titans were only able to score 16.  Mayhem got 16 alone from Brees and 12 each from Anderson and Fitzgerald...Crush would be the top scoring team this week with 53 beating the Bums 53-19.  Crush got 16 points from Winston and 12 from DeAngelo Williams, who returns to where he left off last year.

Luck earned Player of the Week honors with 17 points!

Next week lots of key divisional matchups.  Crew and Chislers battle to take early lead in the North...Cocktails look to take a 2 game lead over the Krauts in the East.,,Dragons and Mayhem battle for early advantage in the South as do the Crush and Sinistars.
