CFFL Week 9 2022

The trade deadline is this week but you would have thought last week was considering all the trades that happened.  Here is a quick rundown on the trades...

  • Sinistars trade:
    • Murray and Hopkins to Crew
    • Kelce to Whales
    • Walker to the Chislers
  • Crew get Ekeler from the Iron Legion
  • Cocktails get Tua from Warbirds
What will happen this week???

Week 9 action:

Wrecking Crew 38  Juggernauts 17 - One of the big games of the week was a show down of the 2 top teams in the league.  Jugges #1 offense vs. Crew #2 defense.  Crew needed to make some changes to its pathetic offense.  They traded for Murray, Hopkins and Ekeler.  They combined for 26 of the Crew's 38 points moving the Crew to 8-1, 2 games ahead of the Chislers in the North.

Crush 35  Bees 8 - Crush had no problem beating a Bees team that was in bye week hell.  They had so many players on bye they couldn't submit a full lineup.  Travis Etienne led the way for the West Division leading Crush with 12 points.
Etienne scored twice for the Crush

Killers 20  Warbirds 19 - Killers, back from honeymoon festivities, were able to edge the Warbirds by one point.  Miles Sanders scored a TD for the Killers.  Warbirds 19 points all came from their Eagles players (Hurts, Goedert and kicker Elliott).

Iron Legion 27  Dragons 21 - Legion traded their best player away (Ekeler) and then finally got a win!  Dragons playoff hopes fading away.

Titans 38  Whales 30 (OT) - What a battle to the end!   Davonte Adams finally got in the edzone for the Titans, not once but twice!  Whales would come back late on Sunday night getting 12 from Mahomes and 6 from Kicker Butker.  Unfortunately they couldn't get newly acquired Travis Kelce in the endzone for the 10 point connection.  With the game tied at 30 after regulation, the Whales had no back ups with points.  The Titans however called upon Baker Mayfield to come off the bench and throw 2 TD passes in OT for the win!

SIDENOTE:  This was the second time a game in the CFFL was determined in OT by a player that originally not even starting the game in the NFL but would come off the bench in the game and score.  Killers got an OT win when "Bitch" Trubisky came off the bench for the Steelers and scored.

Chislers 40  Sinistars 18 - Chislers really had no problem defeating a depleted and picked over Sinistars team.  Former Sinistars RB Kenneth Walker III would score twice against his former team.  Burrow would add 10 more and Cupp continues to score just about every week for the Chislers.

Animals 62  Cocktails 27 - Wow!  What an offensive explosion dropping a 60-burger on the Cocktails!  Joe Mixon tied the CFFL record for TDs in a game with 5!  Kicker Nick "The Dick" Folk added 14 points!  Even little known WR Isaiah "Not bloody" Likely scored.
Mixon had a record tying day!

CFFL HISTORY:  Joe Mixon's 5 TD performance tied the record for the most TDs in a regular season game in CFFL history.  This tied Clinton Portis "The Tortoise" who had 5 TDs for the Bees against Krauts in 2003, Shaun Alexander for the Crew against the Mayhem in 2002, and Jamal Charles "In Charge" for the Bums against the Chislers in 2013.  This also tied Jerry Rice's 5 TD performance in 1990 for the Bums against the Whammers.  (In case anyone reads this and does some research and discovers Kamara had 6 TDs, he did it on Christmas Day in 2020 but this was during the playoffs and he was on the Iron Legion team that did not make the playoffs)

Ferrets 27 Krauts 15 - The Ferrets pull off the big upset beating the Krauts and their Blitzkrieg Bills.  Kraut QB Josh Allen did run for 2 TDs but no other Bill for the Krauts scored.  King Henry was back scoring 12 and sub QB Heinicke "Heineken" threw for 2 scores for the Ferrets.

Player of the Week:  Joe Mixon, RB, Animals - 30 points

Division Outlooks:

South - Titans move to 6-3 and now have a 3 game lead.  Rest of the division certainly are on the outside looking in.

North - Crew maintain its 2 game lead over Chislers.  Ferrets a surprising  5-4 and in the thick of the wild card race.  Animals are not out of it either, specially with that offense.

East - Juggernauts, despite their loss, hold a 2 game lead.  Sinistars and Krauts not out of it my any means.  Cocktails at 3-6 could be running out of time.

West - Still anybody's division except the Legion.  Crush lead by 1 game over the Whales and Killers.
