CFHL Week 8 Recap

The Enforcers vs. Own Goal King (4-2)

Stewart posting for one of his 5 goals!
The Enforcers are becoming quite the...um...enforcers.  They continue to cut through the competition and this week the Goal King who lead the Norris Division went down 4-2.  The Enforcers put up incredible offensive stats: 10 goals, 23 assists, +13 and 53 PIM!  Enforcer forward Chris Stewart "Little" was player of the week with 5 goals, 2 assists, and a +5.  Jake "the Snake" Muzzin was the Goon of the week too, pounding the Goal Kings for 25 minutes.  The win extends the Enforcer's lead over 1st in the league now at 6 points.

Goon Crew vs USSR (3-2-1)

Goon Crew fight each other
The Crew have managed to claw their way back into the playoff picture sitting at the 6th and final playoff spot.  The game was 5-0-1 at one point until the USSR made a come back on Sunday scoring 3 goals and a +1 compared to the 1 goal and +1 posted by the Crew in a tight game.  Cody Hodgson tallied 2 of those 3 goals.  Not too often do teammates fight, but they are the GOON Crew.  Center's Marchand "Little Ball of Hate" and Mike Ribeiro squared off in a rare fight for both of them.  The USSR are still in the middle of the playoff hunt sitting at 3rd and only 2 points behind the Bunnies in the Smythe Division.

Bunnies vs Mayhem (3-2-1)

Fluffy Bunny Crazy Fan!
In another close game, the Bunnies managed to hang on and take the match against the Mayhem.  Its good to see Chris Kunitz out of the Bunnies dog house (how he got in there is beyond me), He tallied a goal, 3 assists, a +3 and 2 PIM.  Key however for the Bunnies was Byfuglien (man that name is jacked) as the gentle giant scored 6 assists.  Mayhem had some fire power too with 4 goals from Blake Wheeler and 3 more from Phil Kessel.  Mayhem still in the playoff hunt in 5th overall, but 10 points behind division leader Enforcers.

Kraken vs. AshBusters (5-1)

Someone has released the Kraken!  After a poor start, the Kraken has won its second straight week and this one was a blow out 5-1, winning all categories except assists.  Leading the way for the Kraken in the offensive zone was Tyler Seguin who had 2 goals, 1 assist, and +3.  But the real story of the Kraken was their goaltending, where they manged to tally 5 wins.  3 from Fluery, and 2 from Luongo.  Hey I just noticed that the Kraken have two of the greasiest goaltenders in the leauge.  Grease Balls!  What can I say about the AshBusters.  They truly have fallen on hard times, with twins and tax season, the team is in shambles.

A pair of grease balls in net!

Checkers vs SLVB (3-2-1)

The defending champion Checkers won a game that wasn't as close as the 3-2-1 score indicated.  The skater stats were not close.  Checkers won goals 5-3, yes SLVB only scored 3 goals, assists 14-8 and +/- +5 to -2.  Goalies for these teams have seen better days as they tied in wins, only 1 and SV% for both teams were below .900.  In fact the Checkers only played with one goalie (Jonathan Quick).  Ryan Miller for SLVB had no wins in any of his starts.

Dupuis celebrating one of his 3 goals
Assassins vs Krampus Carols (3-2-1)

The Krampus Carols have slowed down some after a fast start at the beginning of the season and are currenty struggling some being upset by the Assassins.  The Assassins were lead by Pascal Dupuis, who had 3 goals, an assist and +5.  This game was a battle of goal tenders as both teams had 3 goalie wins but the Krampus edged the Assassins in SV% .967 - .941.  Bobrovsky continues his impressive season posting a .983 SV% for the Krampus.

Only three weeks left in the regular season and its time to make that final playoff off push.  If the playoffs started today:

Enforcers and Bunnies would get the first round bye
Goal King vs Mayhem and USSR vs Goon Crew in the first round.

Key games next week:
(guess all are key now...)

USSR vs Enforcers - Playoff seeding for USSR on the line in this one as they try to end their 2 week losing streak.  Enforcers have yet to lose a match up all season 5 wins and 3 ties.

Goon Crew vs. Bunnies - Bunnies trying to hang onto their #2 seed and keep that bye.  Crew 2 points behind Goal King and hope to keep their winning streak going.

CFHL Week 7 Recap

Game of the Week: SLVB vs. USSR (4-2)
Nash Number 1 Star for SLVB
This game was tight going right to the end of the week and it took Sunday's slate of games to decide this one.  USSR and SLVB was tied at 8 in goals going into Sunday and SLVB came out victorious getting 2 goals, both from Corey Perry, while USSR only got one from James Neal.  USSR was up in Assists by one but after the Killer Smurfs got 9 assists on Sunday, that was no longer.  +/- wasn't even close with SLVB winning 21-0.  PIM was tied too going into Sunday.  USSR didn't get a single penalty all day while SLVB tallied 4 PIM.  James Neal of USSR and Rick Nash of SLVB almost had identical stats too.  4 goals, 3 assists and +5 each.  USSR still leads the Smythe division although tied in points with the Bunnies who didn't have much better of a week (2-3-1)

Player of the Week: Sergei Bobrovsky 4 wins .972 - Carols
Bobrovsky getting 1 of his 2 shutouts
Krampus net minder Bobrovsky had an amazing week winning all 4 games and posting a very impressive .972 save %.  During that stretch he had 2 shutouts and one game only allowing 1 goal.  Far cry from how he played for the Flyers last year. This was good enough to beat the Checkers alone in the goalie categories as Krampus and Checkers played to a 3-3 tie. (Checkers won goals, assists and +/-).

Goon of the Week:  Scott Hartnell 16 PIM - AshBusters
Who wants to see Hartnells ugly mug?
Guess he is dating this Philly weather girl
In a game that had the AshBusters winning only PIM category, Scott Hartnell racked up 16 PIM against the team, Goon Crew, that drafted him and then cut him when he got hurt.  "I wanted to remind them why they drafted me and why they shouldn't have cut me!" said Hartnell after the game.  However too bad that was the only category the AshBusters could muster.

In other Games:
Enforcers vs. Assasins (4-2):  The Enforcers haven't slowed down and continued to roll, this time over the Assassins.  The Enforcers have a 5 point lead now over the rest of the teams in the CFHL for 1st overall.

Kraken sink the Bunnies
Kraken vs. Bunnies (3-2-1): The Kraken get a rare win and was against playoff bound Bunnies. A rough game as the teams tied with 27 PIM each.  David Clarkson lead the Kraken with 7 and Victor Hedman lead the Bunnies with 10.

Mayhem vs. Goal King (4-2): Mayhem improved their playoff hopes moving to 5th place overall.  Goal King still hold on to the lead in the Norris division by 5 over the Crew. Tavares and Kessel both had 3 goals for the Mayhem.

Highlight Game of Week 8: Goal King at Enforcers - Division leaders face it off this week.  Enforcers trying to keep the #1 seed.  Not sure if Goal King even knows they lead their division.

Ranking of Star Wars Lightsaber Battles

Nerd Alert!!

Yep that's right.  Here is my ranking of the lightsaber battles in all of the Star Wars' 6 movies.  Was just thinking about them and how I would rank them.  Might find some of this a surprise....

11. Yoda vs. Dooku - At the end of Attack of the Clones its our first look at that cute little green guy and how bad ass he was before he got soft on Dagobah.  This one was a little comical with Yoda flipping and flopping all over the place.  Dooku really was lame when its all said and done.  Not even a Sith.

10. Darth Vader vs Obi-Wan Kenobi - In the very first film, our first ever exposure to lightsaber battles.  Well after the next 5 movies, this one doesn't even compare.  "Your powers are weak old man"  You ain't kidding!  Man they have gotten slow in their old age!

9. Anakin Skywalker & Obi-Wan vs. Dooku II - This battle in the movie Revenge of the Sith, was a quick one, and Obi-Wan was about as useful as he was in the first battle.  Best part of this battle was Palpatine telling Anakin to kill Dooku, "Kill him now."  Very Emperor like from Revenge of Jedi.

8. Anakin & Obi-Wan vs. Dooku I - The speed was so fast in the newer 3 movies.  Dooku talking during battle was better and reminds me of the older movies with Darth Vader, always trying to use the dark side.  Great affect when Anakin cuts the lights out and the illumination of both of the lightsabers in battle.

7. Mace Windu vs. Palpatine - Windu totally had Palpatine defeated, or did he?  It appeared it was all in his plan.  Would have liked to see more of a battle between Anakin and Windu, but just a quick lopping off of the arm and Palpatine sending Windu off with a bolt of electricity ended it.

6. General Grievous vs Obi-Wan - Truly one of the most unique characters every to wield a lightsaber, General Grievous should have been a more difficult opponent for Obi-Wan.  The multiple lightsabers was truly bad ass, but Obi-Wan cuts two of them off way to early in the battle, which ends with a blaster shot to Grievous' "heart".

5. Yoda vs. Darth Sidus - Palpatine's transformation is complete as he is now Darth Sidus or the Emperor as we knew him in Empire and Revenge of Jedi.  While I ripped on Yoda in his battle vs. Dooku, I thought this one was less ridiculous.  Them rising up into the concil arena was pretty impressive.

4. Obi-Wan vs. Anakin/Darth Vader - A great, long battle.  Amazing how fast they are compared to how they fought in Star Wars A New Hope. Some of the hoping and running on that stuff that was falling into the lava was a bit much, but overall the complete transformation of Anakin to the Dark Side in this and the hate he has in his eyes, ending with Obi-Wan cutting off his legs to let him lay their and burn. Way to NOT put him out of his misery Obi-Wan!

3. Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader I - In Empire Strikes Back (still my favorite of the six), while this battle didn't have the flash and speed and moves of the others after it, it was more ominous.  Darth Vader's presence is so dark and powerful and you can see the fear in Luke's eyes as they begin.  Love Darth talking throughout the battle trying to turn Luke.  "If you only knew the power of the Dark Side!"  Chill Factor: When Darth Vader tells Luke "I am your father"

2. Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader II - Return of the Jedi.  The prelude to this fight with the Emperor is great as he continues to attempt to get Luke to "Strike me down with all of your anger and your hatred"  In this one Luke truly has come a long way from his first battle vs. Darth Vader and really has him defeated, until he realizes what he is doing.  Chill Factor: When Darth Vader discovers that Luke has a twin sister and "If you will not turn to the Dark Side, perhaps she will" and Luke yells "Noooo!" and just unleashes on Vader, with the music going...chills everytime.

1. Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan and Qui Gon - In probably the lamest movies of the the 6, this one was the best lightsaber battle.  From the very beginning when the door opens and there stands Darth Maul and then the music hits.  Probably the best musical score next to the Imperial March.  The speed of this battle was tremendous.  The unique dual sided lightsaber.  The silent Darth Maul.  Darth Maul pacing when the force fields go up while Qui Gon sits and meditates.  And after Darth Maul dispenses Qui Gon, the battle between just Maul and Obi-Wan is so fierce and fast.  Chill Factor: The music when the doors open, and through out the battle.

CFHL Week 6 Recap

Highlight Game of the Week: USSR vs. Krampus Carols (5-1)
Gagner mixing it up for 5 of his 7 PIM
In the game that was highlighted as the game of the week, it turned out to be a real stinker.  The USSR dominated the Krampus winning every category except for goals.  Sam "I am" Gagner lead the Soviets with 2 goals, 1 assist, a +2 and 7 PIM.  Jordan Eberle also tallied 4 assists for the USSR that now lead the Smythe Division and are Number 2 in the league.  The poor performance by the Krampus dropped them down 7 points behind the Enforcers in the Patrick Division and 6th overall, the last playoff spot.

Player of the Week: Chris Kunitz (4 goals, 2 assists, +5, 2 PIM)
Kunitz not happy on being benched
Fluffy Bunnies winger Chris Kuntiz won Player of the week honors.  He helped the Bunnies defeat the AshBusters 4-2 including wins in goals (13-10) and +/- (+11 to -1).  The Bunnies rewarded him by promptly benching him for the next week.  Go figure...

Goon of the Week: Zdeno Chara (19 PIM)
Chara pounding a Hab Sunday
Zee was the Goon of the Week for the AshBusters as he tallied 19 PIM.  17 of the 19 came on one single play as he instigated, fought and then got a 10 minute misconduct on the last game of the week Sunday.  However the AshBusters had PIM well in hand thanks to 17 more PIM from Jamie Been.

In Other Games:
SLVB vs. Goon Crew (3-1-2) - Crew continue to struggle and after SLVB's Plekanec scored his only goal on Sunday night to tie goals, the Crew couldn't get a single goal or 2 measly PIM on Sunday despite having 7 players playing.

Assassins vs. Mayhem (4-2) - Assassins come away with a much needed win to keep playoff hopes alive as the Mayhem posted ZERO goalie stats.

Goal King vs. Kraken (4-2) - Kraken almost pulled it out but needed another assist on Sunday to tie assists.  Seguin finally lived up to his billing (2 goals, 3 assists, +4). Goal King continue to lead the Norris as they play guys on IR (Owners crying for his dismissal from the league)

Kopitar the Zombie
Enforcers vs. Checkers (4-2) - Checkers dominated in assists getting 5 assists from 3 players (Zombie, Semin, and Suter) and +/- but the Enforcers took rest.  Enforcers are looking strong and #1 in the league still.

Mid Season Stats:
Goals: Bunnies lead the league in Goals with 64 with the Crew in 2nd with 60.  Stamkos' 15 goals leads the Bunnies.

Assists: Checkers lead the league in Assists with 116 as the AshBusters are 10 behind with 106.  Henrik Zetterberg has 19 of the 116 for the Checkers.

Checker's Ice Girls The Checkmates!
+/-: The Checkers also lead in +/- with a +60.  Next closest is the Bunnies with only a +35.

PIM: AshBusters' 198 PIM lead the league and are 20 PIM ahead of the second place team Checkers.  Zdeno Chara heads up the goons for the AshBusters with 37 PIM

Goalie Wins: Own Goal King leads the league with 21 wins.   Helps when you have Crawford.  Krampus is second with 19.

Save %: Krampus Carols lead the league with .934 in save %. This is due in large part to Craig "Mister" Anderson, before he got hurt.

TRADE DEADLINE: MARCH 7!
