CFFL Week 5

Week 5 is behind us.  Week 6 is upon us.  Only one more week till the dreaded home and home series.  Hard to believe.

This week we had some shoot outs, one close one score game, and then a number of blow outs once again...

Game of the Week:  Killer Bees 27  Ferrets 24
While this game didn't have lots of fireworks and scoring, it certainly had its share of drama.  Newly acquired kicker Zane Gonzalez got the Ferrets in pretty good position after the first half with 14 points.  With a Lamar Jackson TD pass the score was 18-12.

Elliott would score for the Ferrets
The second half the Ferrets had to sweat out the Killer Bees 10 point connection of Prescott and Witten, not to mention Jimmy Graham.  Prescott would get 2 TD passes, thankfully not to Witten, but the Ferrets would finally get a TD run from Elliott.  Score now was 24-20.  Could the Ferrets survive the Chief kicker Butker?  You would think so considering the high powered Chiefs would score TDs.  "Not so fast my friend."  It turned into a defensive battle and Butker would end up kicking 2 FGs and finish with 7 points.
Butker would FG would eventually be game winner

The score was 27-24 but wasn't over as the Ferret owner made sure everyone knew as they had the 49er defense.  And they came out fired up.  It looked like there was a chance they might score!  They had a pick at their own 1 yard line that looked like it might go all the way!  It didn't.  They fielded a punt and sprinted down the sidelines and it looked like it might go all the way!  It didn't.  They pressured the QB deep in his own end zone.  Batted a few passes down that looked like they might pick it off and go all the way!  They didn't.  The defense would end up with 0 points and the final score would remain 27-24.

Wrecking Crew 71 Mayhem 56 - Now this was a shoot out with plenty of fireworks.  It was like two heavyweight fighters trading hey-makers.  The Crew would end up with 5 players scoring double digits.  McCaffrey had 3 TDs!

Crew was head over heels with 3 McCaffrey TDs

But just when the Crew would score the Mayhem would score, including not one, not two, but THREE 10 point connections from Watson to Fuller!!  It was wild, but in the end the Mayhem couldn't keep up with the Crew.  It helped that one of the 5 that scored double digits was the Crew's Eagle Defense and the Mayhem had no kicker.
Really sucks getting 3 10 point connections and lose...

Titans 49  Animals 35 - In the other shoot out, this game saw a battle of QBs between Titan's Teddy "Two Golves" and Matt "Shark Eyes" Ryan.  Teddy would score 16, score 16 and Ryan 19.  The Titans would take command in the game late Sunday with 13 points from Vinatieri putting the game pretty much out of reach.  The Animals had Nick Chubb "Chubb, chubb, chubb" Monday night, but with needing 3 scores to win the game, it seemed unlikely.  And it was.  Chubb ended up with a big fat goose egg.

Around the league...
Chislers got 21 points from their Rams (Goff, Zuerlein, and Kupp) on Thursday night and was pretty much it for them.  The Dragons didn't do much better on Sunday not even getting close to 21 points.  Chislers would add a defensive TD to make the final 27-13...

Wilson threw 4 TDs for the Sinistars
Aaron Jones.  Aaron "Freaking" Jones!  The Roulette could have benched all their players beside Jones and still win, with Jones scoring 4 times!  They went on to win 44-19 over Bums...

Sinistars took advantage of a Cocktail team that suffers from a bad Chief day winning 41-16.  Russell Wilson and Gurley combined for 28 points Thursday.  Cocktails' Chiefs managed only 4 points Sunday night...

The Killers win their second in a row in another defensive battle. This week they win 22-10 vs Juggernauts.  They were led by their Brown cubed wide outs of AJ Brown "House", John "Downtown Julie" Brown and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown.  Only Hollywood would score however...

And finally the Crush had little trouble beating up on the once proud Kraut nation 38-19 getting 12 points from "Good ole Tom" Brady and Michael Thomas and 14 more from Opera Kicker Tucker.  And what is up with the Krauts...
Good Ole Tom being Good Ole Tom...

Player of the Week:  Aaron Jones, RB, Roulette - 24 points

CFHL Week 1

The Cherry Fantasy Hockey League has officially faced off for the 2019-2020 season.  The long grind begins!  This year the league has expanded to 12 teams adding two from the west coast; Policia and The Greek Empire.  Policia is another Cherry, nephew of the Goon Crew and Checkers.

Here is the summary of last weeks action:

Goon Crew vs. La Femme Nikita 3-3 - Goalies shined for the Crew getting 4 wins and a .941 SV % between Fleury and Grubauer.  Zibanejad "Jam" earned top marks for the week getting 4 goals, 4 assists, 3 PPP and 3 hits for La Femme Nikita

Assassins vs. Checkers 4-1-1 - Father and Son battled with son getting the big advantage taking 4 out of 6 categories.  The net minding for the Assassins was strong.  Andersen had 2 wins and a .927 SV%.  And Despite Dillon's 14 hits for the Checkers, the Assassins still won hits 42-34.

White Mambas vs. AshBusters 4-2 - The final score not indicative on how close the game was.  Mambas only won goals by 1, assists by 2, PPP by 1, and lost hits by 1.  Waiting late in the draft to get both goalies showed for the AshBusters not getting a single goalie win.

Gaudreau scored 2 goals for the Policia
Who Gives a Puck vs. Mayhem on Ice 3-2-1 - Past 2 Cherry Cup champions opened up the season squaring of.  The Mayhem had little fire power netting just 1 goal!  Matthews was hot scoring 5 goals on his own!  Rantanen had 3 himself as the Puck scored a total of 14 goals.

Policia vs. Greek Empire 3-2-1 - West coast battle of the expansion teams.  Policia got goals from 8 out of 10 skaters on their way to 10 goals. Johnny Gaudreau tallied 2 goals to go along with his 3 assists and 2 PPP.  Panarin "Bread" also had a good week going 2-2-2 in the skater categories for the Policia.

USSR vs. Krampus Carols 5-0-1 - Soviets start out fast getting 5 wins in the first week.  The Krampus Carols usually don't get going until December anyway.  Neither team looked to be in mid season form.

This weeks 3 Stars of the Week:

First Star:  Mike Zibanejad, La Femme Nikita, 4 goals, 4 Assists 3 PPP and 3 Hits

Second Star:  Auston Matthews, Puck, 5 goals, 2 PPP and 2 hits

Third Star:  Marc-Andre Fleury, Goon Crew, 2 GW and .965 SV%

Goon of the Week:  Brenden Dillon, D, Checkers, 14 hits

CFFL35 Week 4

This week there was a lot of blow outs!  Only two games were close.  This includes 2 lucky teams that scored only 18 and 19 points and still won!

Game of the Week:  Dragons 28  Animals 27
This was one of the only two games that were close and it was a comeback victory for the Dragons.  The Animals looked like they were in good shape after a three TD performance by Nick Chubb "Chubb, chubb cubb" taking a 27-16 lead.  It would go into Sunday night with the Dragons having kicker Lutz "Lug nut" and Animals fielding the Saints D.  40 yard FG by Lutz..Good.  42 yard FG good, 19 yard FG good!  28-24 late Sunday night.  Lutz would line up for a 26 yard FG....and its good!!!  Dragons win with 4 FG late!
Lutz  kicked 4 FGs to win the game for the Dragons

Killers 19  Krauts 16 - The other close game had the Killers sweating out the Monday Night game.  The Killers would only get 4 from Daniel "Eli Twin" Jones and 9 from kicker Jason "Michael" Myers.  Both teams amazingly got a TD from their Defenses.  Score was 19-16 in favor of the Killers with only Joe Mixon left for the Krauts.  Mixon would not even come close to sniffing the endzone and the Killers would hang on for their first win of the year.
Jason Michael Myers...tis the season!

Rest of the games...blow outs:

Godwin scores twice for Crew
Wrecking Crew 40 Titans 18 - Crew finally hit on all cylinders getting 12 from Brissett and 12 from Godwin.  They remain first in the North at 3-1.  Rest of the division 2-2.

Chislers 42 Killer Bees 16 - Bees found only production from kicker Butker (10) and Hockenson "Hocken on by bread" (6)  Chislers got 12 points from their new waiver pick up Gallman "Golem".
12 points for my precious...

Ferrets 40  Mayhem 10 - Mayhem looked sick.  Watson would only run a TD in while the Ferrets piled up backfield points from Elliott and Williams (Darrel) combining for 18  while Lamar Jackson tallied 12 points.
The other healthy Williams scores 2 TDs for Ferrets

Crush 29  Roulette 10 - Crush had little trouble with the Roulette this week as Ekeler scored twice and both Evans and Tyrell Williams scored.  Roulette QB situation in trouble as they had to start Dalton?!  (Newton out and Kyle Allen goose egg)

Golladay 2 scores for the Sinistars
Cocktails 18 Bums 8 - The Bums couldn't take advantage of the Cocktails bad Chief week (only 6 points from Mahomes, McCoy and Robinson).  They just needed 2 TDs from Kamara who came up empty.  Cocktails are now 4-0 with the rest of the division at 1-3!

Sinistars 50 Juggernauts 16 - Sinistars were on fire this week.  12 from Gurley (finally), 12 from Golladay (even though one didn't look like a TD), and 10 from kicker Austin Seibert.

Player of the Week:  Nick Chubb "Chubb chubb chubb" - RB, Animals - 18 points

Redskins might suck but this is okay...

CFFL35 Week 3

After three weeks there remains only 3 undefeated teams; Dragons, Sinistars and Cocktails.  Will they all remain undefeated or will they fall from the unbeaten ranks.  Dragons play the 2-1 Animals.  Cocktails are on the road against the 2-1 Bums and the Sinistars take on the 1-2 Juggs.  Some tough games.

There was lots of high scoring teams this week.  3 teams posted over 50 points, 4 teams over 40 points and 4 over 30.  But nothing like being one of the teams that scored over 40 points and loses...

Cocktails 45  Crush 42 - One of the shoot outs of the day had the Cocktails and Crush trading punches all Sunday long.  Of course the Cocktails were led by their once again Chief attack getting 30 points from their Chief players.  Mahomes and McCoy had 12 each and Robinson had 6.  Crush were not going to just roll over as they countered later in the day with 3 big TDs from Mike Evans.  But while Evans was scoring TDs, kicker Matt GAY! booted in 13 points during that game as well and gave the Cocktails the 45-42 win.
McCoy scored twice for Cocktails

Chislers 52  Mayhem 42 - Another team to put up over 40 and lose was the Mayhem, who likely wasn't very confident, even with a 42-24 lead going into Sunday night.  He be right!  It would be slow going for the Chislers/Rams Sunday night, but things heated up in the second half when Goff hit Kupp for an 11 point connection.  Suddenly it was 42-38.  Could the Mayhem hang on??  Nope.  Goff would hit Kupp again for another 11 point connection to seal the victory 49-42.  They would tack on a meaningless Greg "The Leg" Zuerlein FG to make the final 52-42.
Goff and Kupp connected twice for Chislers

Ingram wouldn't stop scoring
Around the league...Dragons remain undefeated besting the Crew 35-25 thanks to Ingram's 3 TDs.  The Crew, despite their M squared backfield of Mack and McCaffery who both scored, couldn't find production elsewhere...

Animals rolled the Bees 51-29 led by 12 points from three players; Matt "Shark Eyes" Ryan, Jeffery "CPA" Wilson, and the Saints Defense!  Bees wasted a 14 point performance by Dak Prescott...

Titans ran away with the game against the Ferrets 53-34.  It was the Cooper Hooper show as Amari Cooper and Austin Hooper both scored 12 points.  It was another bad beat for the Ferrets scoring 34 in the loss...
Austin Hooper was once a stuntman

The Killers are starting to look pretty bleak after only 3 games already.  Roulette had no trouble beating them 41-13 behind a running attack of Aaron "Not Rodgers" Jones and David Johnson who combined for 18 points.  Killers only got points from their kicker and Lockett...

Adam Thielen's wife Caitlin..
Bums got back on track with a 34-28 victory over the Juggs.  They got productions from their best 2 players like you would expect.  Protected player Alvin Kamara scored 12 and number one draft pick Adam Thielen scored 12...

Sinsitars also remain undefeated with their victory over the Krauts 38-25 who needed a big game out of their Bears?...so un-Kraut like.  Russell Wilson almost won this game with his 20 points single handed.  The Kraut team just has too many Bears and Bengals to win many games this year.  (3 Bears and 2 Bengals in the starting line up).

Player of the game:  Russell Wilson, QB, Sinistars - 20 points.

CFFL35 Week 2

Week 2 is in the books.  The divisional games to open the season is over.  Who has taken full advantage and who is already in trouble?

Game of the Week:  Animals 32  Chislers 31
Chislers took the early lead as their Rams connections did much better than last week, well or as it seemed.  Goff did score 10 points but nothing from Brown, Kupp or Woods.  It looked like the Chislers got a 10 point connection to Kupp.  TD on the field.  But after futher review Kupp was down at the one inch line.  It was 31-8 going into Sunday night.  Matt Ryan would hit Ridley for a 10 point connection and throw 2 more TD passes making the game 31-26.  Could the Chislers survive Monday night as the Animals had Nick Chubb taking the field.  Chubb would take the hand off at the 19, break a few tackles and dive into the endzone for the Animals win!  The loss puts the defending champs 0-2.  But I do believe there was a similar year they started out bad and then ripped off a huge winning streak to make it to the playoffs...
Chubb dives in for the game winning TD!

In the other game in the North, the Crew were able to hang on and beat the Ferrets 31-24 after a slow start on Thursday, when their best player McCaffrey posted a goose egg.  Jimmy G hooked up with Deebo "Sweeny" Samuel for a 10 point connection on his way to 12 points.

In the South...Separation has already begun as the Killer Bees and Dragons have both moved to 2-0 and Mayhem and Titans fall to 0-2.  Killer Bees took down the Mayhem 34-25 led by 12 points from Dak Prescott, including a 10 point connection  to "Old Man" Witten...The battle of the brothers between Dragons and Titans turned ugly as Big Ben went out with an injury not to return (and is out for the season).  The Dragons did get 12 points from Julio Jones, who is tired of hearing how he doesn't score TDs. (He has 3 TDs in 2 weeks)
Jones running for his 3rd TD of the year in 2 weeks

In the East... The Cocktails have quickly exerted themselves as the team to beat in the Eastern Bloc winning the first battle of Russia.  They seem to have the finger on the pulse of the Chiefs.  With Mahomes at the helm, they put in Demarcus "Will" Robinson and promptly got 2 10 point connections on their way to a 42-33 victory over the Roulette.  If the Roulette could have got any production from their QB Cam "Sad Cam" Newton, they might have had a chance, since every player besides their D scored...The Juggs couldn't survive the Krauts Patriot defense.  After getting shut out last week, the Krauts came out angry and got 18 points from their defense and never looked back.  It was a total Blitzkrieg.
Mahomes hasn't slowed down yet

In the West...We almost had another team shut out.  The Killers managed to only score 4 points in their game against the Crush losing not only the game but their star QB Drew Brees with a torn ligament in his thumb.  Tom Brady tallied 14 points for the Crush and Justin "Mother" Tucker kicked in 11...After an emotional start to the season, the Bums came out flat in week two falling to the Sinistars 47-10.  The Sinistar running attack produced 12 points between Conner and Gurley and Russell Wilson added 12 points.  The win puts the Sinistars a top of the west at 2-0.
Tom Brady looking real good too

Player of the Week:  Patriots Defense, Krauts - 18 points
Pats Defense scores 3 times!

See you all next week!!

CFFL35 Week 1

The draft is over.  The long off season is over.  The brutal preseason is over.  Its time to kick off the 35th year of the Cherry Fantasy Football League!!

McCaffrey scoring one of his 2 TDs Sunday
Wrecking Crew 35  Chislers 28 - GREEN BAY, WI -- The six time defending champion Chislers kicked off their season against their long time rival the Crew.  The Crew was able to escape the typically deadly Ram attack of the Chislers (Goff, Kupp, Woods and Zuerlein) who all scored just 16 points.  Crew's running attack, which was expected to be their strength, didn't disappoint scoring 18 points between Mack and McCaffrey.

Ferrets 44  Animals 36 - ANN ARBOR, MI -- The Animals traveled to the Ferret Den only to find the Ferrets had a lot of biting and scratching in them.  However that is typical for the Ferrets in the first week.  They got points out of all their skill players except Gallup with TY Hilton leading the way with 12 points.  The Animals got to within 2 points when Hopkins caught his second TD of the night, but the Ferrets would put it away when Sanders caught a late TD pass.

Dragons 54  Mayhem 45 - MIAMI, FL -- This game turned into a real shoot out in the South.  The Dragons getting 12 points from Rivers, Ingram, Jeffery, and Lutz and the Mayhem getting 15 from Gostkowski, 12 from Henry and then 18 huge points from Watson as they stormed back into the game.  But the 12 points Dragons got from Lutz would prove bigger.
Rivers celebrates the Dragon victory

Killer Bees 26  Toledo Titans 21 - TOLEDO, OH -- What was suppose to be a QB duel between Rodgers and Roethlisberger, turned out to be a kicker battle between Butker and Prater.  But the reality was that wasn't even a battle as Butker outscored Prater 16-9.

Juggernauts 18  Roulette 11 - ROME, ITALY -- The ho-hum game of the week.  With David Johnson and Saquon Barkley on the field, fireworks and lots of scoring was expected.  Instead a lot of zeros were on the scoring sheets.  Carson Wentz, however, came to play and threw for 3 TD passes.  It would have been much worse for the Roulette had the Juggs started their 10 point connection of Wentz and Jackson.  Jackson caught 2 of the three Wentz TD passes.

Rookie Jacobs front runner for All Nickname Team
Cocktails 47  Krauts 0 - BERLIN, GERMANY -- The Cocktails came into Berlin and completely embarrassed the Krauts in front of their home crowd.  The Cocktails rolled out an impressive running attack with Chris "Johnny" Carson (12 points) and Josh Jacobs "Jingleheimer Schmidt" (12 points) to go along with last years MVP Mahomes' 12 points.  The Krauts even started a kicker that wasn't going to play.  There will be a lot to answer to in Berlin this week.

Bums  40  Killers 31 - SAN DIEGO, CA --  The Bums had an emotional home opener dedicating the entire season to owner Burt Carlson, who passed away before the beginning of the season.  They came out fired up getting 18 points from Watkins, 6 from Thielen and 6 from Westbrook all in the first half.  It seemed like every TD that was scored early Sunday was a Bum.  The Killers would attempt a comeback with Brees 2 TD passes but ultimately would come up short.
Watkins was a man on mission Sunday scoring 3 times

Sinistars 25  Crush 15 - SEATTLE, WA -- The Sinistars, in their home opener, would have little trouble with the Crush thanks to 8 points from Wilson and 11 points from kicker Robbie Gould.  But more in large part due to the line up decisions of the Crush.  First of all how do you bench Brady and Dorsett in favor of Jameis Winston and Anthony Miller (who??) Brady and Dorsett would combine for 24 points. Oh, and Ekeler with 18 points sat the bench too.  In total, the Crush left 56 points on the bench.  Ouch...

Player of the Week:   Deshaun Watson, QB, Mayhem -18 points  and Sammy Watkins, WR, Bums - 18 points

See you next week!
