CFHL Week 11

Week 11 in the CFHL.

Go Bruins...

Goon Crew vs. Greek Empire 4-1-1 - The Crew had an impressive week offensively with Max Pacioretty with 5 goals and 3 assists and Pastrnak with 3 more goals and 2 assists.
Pasta having a career year

Christmas is coming, this goose isn't getting fat..
La Femme Nikita vs. Cherry Checkers 5-1 - Disappointing loss for the Checkers as they slip to last place in the Norris Division.  Checker goalies had a rough week (Jones and Rinne) getting no wins and only a .866 SV%.

AshBusters vs. California Raisins  4-2 - Between the AshBusters and Nikita, they may prove (similar to the Krampus Carols of last year) that you can win in this league even if you do nothing to your line up or team all year.

Assassins vs. Mayhem on Ice 4-2 - The Assassins could have beat the Mayhem in goals with one player.  Mayhem finished with only 3 goals.  Assassins center Jack Eichel had 5!

USSR vs. White Mambas 3-3 - The Soviets played the Mambas tough as the Mambas found it tough to find the back of the net with only 4 goals.  Stamkos had 4 goals for USSR and Tristan Jarry had 2 wins in goal.
Jarry playing well for the USSR

Who Gives a Puck vs. Krampus Carols  3-2-1 - Who Gives a Puck need to put a string of winning weeks together to make a run at the playoffs.  This week they were able to edge the Krampus despite the Krampus hitting them 58 times, 18 from Ovechkin!

Three Stars of the Week:

First Star:  Max Pacioretty, F, Goon Crew, 5 goals, 3 assists, 2 PPP and 4 hits

Second Star:  Artemi Panarin, F, Raisins, 5 goals, 1 assist, 2 PPP and 2 hits

Third Star:  Jack Eichel, C, Assassins, 5 goals, 1 assist, 2 PPP and no hits

Goon of the Week:  Alex Ovechkin, F, Krampus Carols - 18 hits

CFFL Week 14 and Playoff Preview

Well there you have it.  The final regular season week is in the books.  8 teams will move on.  8 teams will look forward to August and the Draft.  It came down to the final game of the week to determine the playoff teams.

Chislers 42  Wrecking Crew 32 - This game came down to the very end.  The Crew took an early lead getting 16 big points from Jimmy G and had a 32-12 lead.  Clearly not enough points as is typically the case every Sunday.  You can never have enough points!  It wasn't the Rams players that won it for the Chislers, although they helped get it close, but it was a little known Giant WR Darius Slayton who would score a TD for the win and then add another one for good measure.  The win gave the Chislers another playoff berth (26th) in a year the Chislers were "just going to have fun"...
Slayton scores game winner...fucker.

Ferrets 45  Animals 28 - Ferrets eliminated the Animals with 12 points from potential MVP Lamar Jackson and 12 points from Elliott.

The South came down to who would win and out score the other in their games.  Dragons would prevail versus Mayhem 32-27.  Deshaun Watson got some revenge on the Mayhem scoring 16 points against his former team that traded him earlier claiming he was disruptive in the locker room.  The Dragons still needed to make sure they outscored the Bees by 12 in order for them to claim the South Division....
Watson doesn't look very happy for scoring 16 points

Speaking of the Bees, they were playing the Titans, who had Block Head at QB, "It was the" Duke Johnson at RB and a Lion kicker.  Clearly this would be an easy win for the Bees, who had players like Aaron Rodgers, Leonard Fournette, Chief kicker Butker.  "Not so fast my friend!"  They would only get 4 points from Rodgers and 11 from Butker and the game was tied at 15-15.  Titans needed a TD catch from Golden "Taint" Tate Monday night, but came up empty.  The Bees would win in OT, but lose the division to the Dragons getting out scored by the Dragons by 17 points.
No more block head this year...

Other games that had playoff implications:

The Krauts needed a win to make the playoffs and were playing the Cocktails, no easy task.  Once again the Cocktails didn't get the point production from  their Chiefs they count on for wins.  Mahomes only had one TD pass.  Kelce did run one in, but wasn't enough to defeat the Krauts who managed to score just enough points for the win 23-18....
Could Mahomes have a hand issue?

The Crush also needed a win to get in, but wasn't as lucky as the Krauts as they faced the Sinistars.  They did have a 28-24 lead going into Sunday night, but with the Sinistars fielding Gurley and Woods it didn't look good for the Crush.  Woods would score a TD for the game winner and Gurley would add another for good measure knocking the Crush out of the playoff race.
Woods scores game winner!

Around the league...Juggs beat the MIA Roulette 32-18 behind 16 big points from kicker Younghoe "Bag"....The Killers peaked one week too late as they laid 53 points on the Bums winning 53-17.  There are a lot of teams glad they didn't make the playoffs as they seemed to have found their groove.  Brees had 26 points including two 10 point connections to Cook!!  Some may ask is that a record for points scored by a QB?  Nope.  Mark "Cornholio" Rypien holds the record with 30 points back in 1991 for the Jewels.  It does tie him for 3rd all time with Jake "The Snake" Plummer who scored 26 back in 1998...

Player of the Week:  Drew Brees, QB, Killers - 26 points

Congratulations to our Division Winners:
North:  Fez's Ferrets (8th division title)
South:  Monclova Dragons (6th division title)
East:  Molotov Cocktails (first division title)
West:  Stamm's Sinistars (4th division title)

It's playoff time and oh boy do we have a hell of a first round!  Rivalries and rematches!

Wrecking Crew at Sinistars (-6.5) - The Crew travel to the Sinistars, the best team in the league. It will be Garoppolo vs. Wilson, Gurley vs. McCaffery.  And a side note, Sinistars kicker is Robbie Gould, the same kicker that with the Crew couldn't kick a lousy 6 points on New Years Eve, to give them the win against the Crush in Fantasy Bowl XXV all the way back in 2009...Just saying.  Sinistars likely to get cover and move on, but they have been notorious in losing early in the playoffs...

Chislers at Ferrets (Pk) - The Ferrets have to be less than enthused about this match up.  No one would.  I don't think anyone wanted to see the Chislers back in the playoffs.  With Chisler luck they could make another run for their 7th championship.  The Chislers and Ferrets squared off in the home and home series early this year splitting.  Ferrets won the first match up by one point 40-39 and the Chislers won game 2 44-25.  Chisler luck prevails and Ferrets post season woes continue.

Krauts at Cocktails (-7.5) - This is becoming quite the divisional rivalry between the Germans and the Russians, dating back to WWII.  Last year in the playoffs Cocktails beat the Krauts 32-22 then destroyed them in Week 1 this year 47-0!  Krauts won the last game that propelled them into the playoffs, but have to play them one more time.  I can't see the Krauts going up into Russia again, in December, and beating the Cocktails.  Cocktails win big, lay the points.

Killer Bees at Dragons (Pk) - Oh wow.  You couldn't have a more heated rivalry to open the playoffs than this one, at least for the Dragons who constantly cry to get the Bees out of the league.  Bees probably don't have any issues with the Dragons.  This is another home and home series rematch.  They split the series, Bees won big in the first game 52-20 and Dragons won the second 31-24.  This game will be close, but the x-factor will be Watson in this game giving the Dragons a narrow victory.

CFHL Week 10

It's Week 10 in the CFHL.  The top 4 teams in the league all reside in the Norris Division.  With the White Mambas leading the league with 75 points and the Assassins who are in last place in the Norris with 65 would be leading any other division...

Week 10 action:

AshBusters vs. Goon Crew 4-2 - Crew got surprised by the MIA AshBusters this week.  The Goalies were the story of this match up.  AshBusters goalies of Bishop and Kuemper combined for 5 wins and a .935 SV%!

Assassins vs. Who Gives a Puck  5-1 - The defending champ Puck's woes continue as the Assassins had little trouble with them.  The Puck hasn't even been able to enjoy having the Cherry Cup this season as it is lost in Michigan somewhere.

California Raisins vs. USSR 5-1 - The once proud and potent USSR team from earlier this season has slipped as of late.  This week going down to the expansion Raisins.  The Raisins had an impressive 13 PPP including 4 from Yandle and 3 from Kane.
Yandle had 4 PPP  for Raisins

White Mambas vs. Krampus Carols  5-1 - The White Mambas just keep rolling along.  This team gets production across the board from all players and goalies.  Even when Connor McDavid has an mediocre day, the rest of team steps up.  This week John Carlson scores 3 goals and 3 assists.

La Femme Nikita vs. Mayhem on Ice 5-1 - Yet another lopsided game as Nikita took down the Mayhem.  Linus Ulmark had a good week in net for Nikita with 2 wins and a .931 SV%.
Linus plays hockey too...

The Greek Empire vs. Checkers 3-2-1 - The Empire edged the Checkers this week.  Neither team was very good in net, both just getting one win.  The Checkers did make them pay with 50 hits including 15 from their goon Brenden Dillon.
Dillon goonning it up for the Checkers

Three Stars of the Week:

First Star:  John Carlson, D, White Mambas - 3 goals, 3 assists, 1 PPP and 2 hits

Second Star:  Jack Eichel, C,  Assassins - 2 goals, 5 assists, 3 PPP and 1 hit

Third Star:  Darcy Kuemper, G, AshBusters - 3 wins .935 SV%

Goon of the Week:  Brady Tkachuk (again), F, 18 hits - This is his 4th Goon of the Week award this year! (Week 4, 6, 9, 10)

CFFL Week 13

Here we are, the final week of the regular season is upon us.  Get ready to strap in for a wild Week 14 as teams battle for the final playoff spots and one division still up for grabs.

But in the mean time let's take a quick look at Week 13 games last week...

Ferrets 29  Wrecking Crew 16 - A disappointing loss for the Crew, coming out flat in a key game for the division.  McCaffery failed to find the end zone for the Crew while Lamar Jackson for the Ferrets had 10 and DeVante "Peter" Parker had 12.  Ferrets are the king in the North!

Parker scoring one of his 2 TDs...

Chislers 36  Animals 25 - No one wants to see the Chislers get in the playoffs.  Well they made their first step to possibly getting in defeating the Animals.  Key was their Rams connections of Goff, Kupp, Zuerlein and Rams D who combined for 30 points.

Is Goff back to lead Chislers back to playoffs?

Killer Bees 56  Mayhem 49 - In a wild shoot out the Bees kept their division title hopes alive and clinched a playoff spot.  Rodgers had 16 and Barber had 14 for the Bees while the Mayhem got 12 from "Bitch" Trubisky and 12 from Sutton.

Rodgers loves to play in the snow

Dragons 38  Titans 20 - Dragons did the same in keeping their division title hopes alive and clinched a playoff spot defeating the Titans in what was a close game until Sunday night when Deshaun Watson took the field and scored 18 points!
Mahomes and Cocktails clicking at right time?

Cocktails 32  Roulette 5 - Cocktails got 10 from Mahomes, 6 from McCoy and 8 from their Chiefs Defense in an easy win over Roulette to capture their first Eastern Bloc Division Title.

Juggernauts 37  Krauts 32 - Juggs were able to hold on against the Krauts as the Krauts had Diggs and Rudolph going Monday Night and only got 6.  They just needed one more TD from either one of them but just couldn't get one.

Crush 26  Killers 16 - Sunday Night was kind to the Crush needing a big game from QB Tom Brady.  Down 16-14, they really only needed one TD from Brady.  They got 3 instead to win and keep their playoff hopes alive and crush (no pun intended) the playoff hopes of the Killers.
Brady helps Crush eliminate the Killers

Sinistars 25  Bums 23 - The Wild Wild West division champ Sinistars came back with a Monday night come back to beat the Bums as Russell Wilson scored  8 points for the win.

Player of the Week:  Deshaun Watson, QB, Dragons - 18 points

Playoff Picture:

Division Leaders:                            Wild Card:
1. x-Sinistars 10-3                           5. y-Dragons 8-5 (367)
2. x- Ferrets 9-4                               6. Wrecking Crew 7-6 (424)
3. x-Cocktails 9-4                            7. Crush 7-6 (411)
4. y-Killer Bees 8-5 (379)                8. Chislers 7-6 (409)

In the hunt:
Krauts 7-6 (361)
Animals 6-7 (435)
x-clinch division
y-clinch playoff

Okay, here is my best attempt at the possible playoff scenarios...

Sinistars have number 1 spot locked up
Ferrets lock down the 2 spot with a win
Cocktails need a win and a Ferret loss to move to the 2 spot

South Division:  Bees play the Titans and Ferrets play the Mayhem.  If both win Dragons need to outscore the Bees by over 12 to win division.  If one wins and other loses, winner wins division and the loser could drop as low as 7th seed.

Crew vs. Chislers - The biggest rivalry adds another chapter as the winner is in the playoffs.  The loser will need a little help, with a Kraut, Animal or a Crush loss.  The loser also would need to finish with more points than Animals if tied for final playoff spot.  Chislers would need to outscore Crush by 3 points as well in that scenario. (I think...) So basically just win and get the fuck in.

Sinistars vs. Crush - Crush win and they are in.  If they lose, need Animals, Krauts or Crew to lose or make sure they finish with more points than Animals or Crew in the event Animals win and Crew lose (Crew-424, Animals-435, Crush-411)

Krauts vs. Cocktails - Krauts win and in, lose and they are out.  Simple as that..

Ferrets vs. Animals - Animals win, they need Krauts or Crush loss.  If Krauts and Crush both win Animals eliminated.

Cripes I think that about covers it.  I am sure I missed some other obscure scenario with points scored, etc...GOOD LUCK!

CFHL Week 9

You would think I'm a Stars fan...

Here we are, 9 weeks in the book, still many to go.  While there are some front runners in the divisions, with so many weeks to go and chances to get 6 wins in one week every team is still alive.

Here is Week 9's action:

Goon Crew vs. USSR 4-1-1 - The Goon Crew got back on the winning track beating the USSR relatively easily to pull back to within one point of the Mambas in the Norris division.  Pastrnak continues his career year as he had 5 goals for the week and 25 on the year!
All hail King Pasta!

Assassins vs. Krampus Carols  4-2 - This game was vicious with both teams combining for 106 hits!  Assassins came away with the win and had three players with double digit hits.

Checkers vs. AshBusters  3-2-1 - The Checkers had to sweat out the Stars vs. Wild game and hope that the Wild would hold on to beat the Star's and AshBusters goalie Ben Biship to keep the 3 wins.
Checker Ice Girls celebrate!

Mayhem on Ice vs. Greek Empire 4-2 - Mayhem used this game as an opportunity to go up 8 points now over Greek Empire in the Smythe Division. MacKinnon had 3 goals, 6 assists, 2 PPP and 2 hits for the Mayhem.

California Raisins vs. White Mambas 4-1 - The White Mambas are vulnerable after all as the Raisins took them down 4-1 (thank you from the Crew...)Raisins were led by Malkin's 2 goals 6 assists, 2 PPP and 3 hits.
She is married to...

to this clown..wait what?

La Femme Nikita vs. Who Gives a Puck 4-2 - Nikita took down the defending champs with big games from Lindholm (3 goals) and Jake Guentzel (4 goals and 3 assists).

Three Stars of the Week:

First Star: Nathan MacKinnon, C, Mayhem on Ice - 3 goals, 6 assists, 2 PPP and 2 Hits

Second Star:  Martin Jones, G, Checkers - 3 Wins and .935 SV%

Third Star:  David Rittch, G, Who Gives a Puck - 2 Wins and .941 SV%

Tkachuk had 21 hits...he got the wrong end of this hit however...

Goon of the Week:  Brady Tkachuk, F, La Femme Nikita - 21 hits
