CFFL Week 11

Three weeks to go and playoff hopes are still alive for many franchises.  Sinistars are one win away from clinching the West.

No real thrillers this week.  A couple interesting games, but for the most part..meh...

Here are the interesting games:

Ferrets 37  Cocktails 21 - This game was set up for some Monday Night drama, but really never materialized.  The Ferrets lead 31-11 going into Monday Night, but with the Cocktails fielding their dangerous Chiefs (Mahomes, Hill, Kelce),  just 2 10 point connections would tie the game. Field conditions turned terrible late in the game and it didn't look like this was going to happen, until Mahomes finally hit Kelce for a 10 pointer making the score 31-21 and it was only the third quarter. Keenan Allen for the Ferrets had the case of the drops all game long, so it looked like the Cocktails might pull this off...But once again like the legendary Lee Corso would say, "Not so fast my friend!"  Allen would score a  7 yard TD only minutes after Kelce's  score.  Game now was 37-21 and even another 10 point connection couldn't help the Cocktails.  The final would remain 37-21.

Allen would put the game out of reach

Killer Bees 36  Sinistars 32 - With Russell Wilson out on bye and James Conner out with an injury this could the be week the Sinistars slip.  After 12 from Prescott and 12 from Marvin Jones the Bees were up 30-24 heading into Sunday Night.  Todd Gurley would score a TD to tie the game at 30 but neither team was done yet.  Both had players Monday night.  Bees with kicker Butker and Sinistars with TE Hunter Henry.  Butker would win that dual 6-2 and hand the Sinistars only their second loss on the season.

Here are the meh games:

Wrecking Crew 32 Roulette 9 - Crew handle the lifeless Roulette easily behind 12 points form DJ Chark "Not sure if he's a Cherry or a Clark".

Crush 31 Titans 19 - Despite getting 16 points from Sam "Block Head" Darnold the Titans could only manage 3 more points from the rest of their players as the Crush cruise to an easy win.
How do you fit a square head into a round helmet?

Bums 24 Mayhem 17 - As soon as it was mentioned the Mayhem were back in the playoff hunt their winning streak ends to the lame duck Bums.  Bums started out fast with 14 from Baker including a pass to Landry.

Murray scores 14 points!
Killers 49 Dragons 22 - Killers finally woke up and posted 49 points in their upset win against the Dragons.  Brees had 12 as did one of the Brown Brothers (John).

Chislers 29 Juggernauts 21 - The Chislers were tired of Jared Goff's play as of late and benched him in favor of Josh Allen.  Allen would of course score 18 points in return (Chisler luck once again)

Krauts 35 Animals 17 - Kyler Murray scored 14 points as the Krauts handed the Animals their 3rd loss in a row.  Krauts now trail Cocktails by 2 games with 3 to go.

Player of the Week:  Josh Allen, QB, Chislers - 18 points

CFHL Week 7

This week only one match up was lopsided.  Most games were either tied or only separated by one category.  That's a recipe to keep standings tight.

Look at what happened in Week 7:

California Raisins vs. Goon Crew 3-3 - The Raisins came to play and went toe to toe with the top team in the league.  William Karlsson led the Raisins with 4 goals and 3 assists.  Crew's lead in the Norris division is now only one point.
Karlsson (71) had a big week for Raisins

Greek Empire vs. Assassins 3-2-1 - The Greek Empire continue to surprise and remain in first place in the Smythe division after beating the Assassins.  Goalie were strong for the Empire.  Lehner and Raanta combined for 2 wins and .927 SV%.  Assassins laid the wood though hitting the Empire 58 times, including 18 from Tom Wilson.

Krampus Carols vs. La Femme Nikita 3-2-1 - Amazingly these two teams tied in hits at 41.  Both had players with double digit hits.  Nikita had Lindholm with 15 hits (no other skater stats, true goon) and Ovechkin had 14 hits for the Krampus.
Ove can be nasty

White Mambas vs. Checkers 3-2-1 - Mambas continue to creep closer and closer to first place in the Norris division.  They now only trail the Crew by one.  They had great net minder play between Holtby and Mrazek.  They combined for 4 wins and .922 SV%.
Mrazek leading the way for the Mambas

Mayhem on Ice vs. USSR 3-2-1 - Wait, what's this?  The USSR have had 2 losing weeks in a row?  Nathan MacKinnon led the Mayhem with a huge week scoring 4 goals, 3 assists and 2 PPP plus 6 hits.

AshBusters vs. Who Gives a Puck  5-1 - Rough week for the defending champ Puck losing to the MIA AshBusters despite hitting them 55 times (12 from Blais and 13 from Gudas.  Will this wake up AshBuster ownership?

Three Stars of the Week:

Number One Star: Connor McDavid, C, White Mambas - 3 goals, 7 assists and 5 PPP (third time Number One Star of the Week)

Number Two Star:  Nathan MacKinnon, C, Mayhem on Ice - 4 goals, 3 assists, 2 PPP and 6 hits

Number Three Star:  Leon Draisaitl, F, Checkers - 2 goals, 7 assists, 4 PPP and 2 hits

Goon of the Week:  Tom Wilson, F, Assassins - 18 hits

Next Weeks Big Game:  Goon Crew at White Mambas - With the White Mambas only one point behind the banged up Crew, the Mambas could take control of the Norris division with a decisive victory.
Oh Canada...

CFFL Week 10

Monday Night Madness!  What a Monday Night Football game and it had many implications in the CFFL...

God Bless America

Krauts 24  Wrecking Crew 21 - The Crew entered the night only 8 down to the Krauts needing Jimmy G to just throw 2 TDs to tie, or just one to Deebo "Dabo Sweeny" Samuel for the win.  There was a lot of fireworks Monday Night, but Jimmy looked like shit.  He did have one long bomb in OT to Samuel, but came up short.  Only one TD pass and a 2 point conversion pass is all he could come up with and Crew drop their 3rd in a row.

Jimmy G walks off the field a loser

Mayhem 39  Crush 29 - Mayhem came into this game down 6 to the Crush 29-23 with only their Seahawks defense.  Crush seemed like they should be pretty safe, right?  "Not so fast my friend"  Seahawk Jadaveon Clowney would pick up a fumble at the 49er 10 yard line and rumbled into the end zone for a TD tying the game 29-29!  In OT the Mayhem would get 10 points from back up kicker Jason Sanders to seal the win.

Clowney returns fumble for TD and win!

Sinistars 38  Dragons 23 - The Sinistars were trailing the Dragons 23-18 going into Monday night.  This game was far from over.  Sinistars had Wilson, Coleman, kicker McLaughlin and the 49er defense.  The Dragons had Breida and Metcalf.  I think you can figure out what happened with those line ups.  Sinistars would start the scoring getting a quick 4 points form McLaughlin pulling to within one 23-22.  In the third quarter, Russell Wilson finally connected with a TD pass giving the Sinistars the lead 26-23. They would put the game out of reach with 6 more points from their kicker and a fumble return by their 49er defense, 38-23.

Wilson scores only 1 TD, but was enough.
Cocktails 60  Chislers 24 - In Fantasy Bowl XXXIV rematch the Cocktails had this game circled on the calendar since August.  Chislers obviously did not.  Getting a Chris Carson TD run on Monday night pushed the Cocktails to 60 points.  This was after getting 2 10 point connections.  One to Tyreek Hill and one to Kelce.  TE Mark Andrews and K Matt GAY! both had 12 points as well.

Mahomes is back!

Around the league...Killers just can't seem to get on the right side of a win as they lose again to the Titans 35-21.  Drew Brees was shut out and Golden "Taint" Tate scored 12 points for the Titans...Killer Bees needed overtime to defeat the Bums 28-20.  If Bums would have just started their back up kicker Bullock instead of Elliott who was on a bye the Bees would have lost...Ferrets would defeat the suddenly MIA Roulette 27-24 behind 18 big points from Lamar Jackson!...Juggernauts knock off the Animals 26-19.  The Animals typically dangerous backfield came up empty as Chubb and Murray posted goose eggs...

Player of the Week:  Lamar Jackson, QB, Ferrets - 18 points

Playoff Hunt:

Division Leaders                       Wildcard
1. Sinistars 9-1                           5. Dragons 6-4
2. Cocktails 8-2                          6. Animals 5-5
3. Ferrets 6-4                              7. Wrecking Crew 5-5
4. Killer Bees 6-4                       8. Chislers 5-5

In the Hunt:
Crush 5-5
Krauts 5-5
Juggernauts 5-5
Mayhem 4-6
Titans 4-6

Interesting notes:  One point separates the Dragons and the Bees.  They split the season series.  They are both currently 3-1 in the division.  Bees have 278 total points and Dragons have 277.  What a race....Only 3 points separate the Chislers and the Crush for the final playoff spot as of today.  And look at the Mayhem!  Back in the hunt winning 4 in a row after trading Watson...

CFHL Week 6

Its Week 6.  Snow is falling in Canada all weekend and now the great city of Toledo, Ohio getting a couple inches already....It's definitely hockey season!
Time to get the shovels out

This week the Mambas scored a week leading 16 goals...Checkers had an impressive 25 assists and 15 PPP...and the Assassins goalies were outstanding getting 4 wins and a .934 SV %

In the Standings this week the Smythe division looks like a 2 horse race so far between the Mayhem and the Greek Empire as they are tied with 36 points.  The Norris is getting tight with the Mambas (45) and now the Checkers (44)  right on the heels of the Crew (47).  And in the Adams the USSR continue to have no real challengers leading the second place AshBusters by 13 points.

What happened last week?  Take a look...

Goon Crew vs. Krampus Carols 3-2-1 - The Crew held on versus the Krampus scoring 13 goals and 48 hits!  Max Pacioretty had 3 goals for the Crew.

Checkers vs. California Raisins 5-1 - Attention CFHL, here come the Checkers.  After a slow start they are making a move and had an impressive week.   They had 25 assists and an impressive 15 PPP.  Draisaitl had 7 assists.  Kane for the Raisins had 4 goals 4 assists and 3 PPP in the loss.

Draisaitl has been money for the Checkers

Assassins vs. AshBusters 4-2 - The goalies were the story of this match up as the Assassins had little trouble getting this victory.  The combination of Andersen and Price  had 4 wins and .934 SV%.

Mamabas vs. Mayhem on Ice 3-2-1 - The Mambas continue to keep pace with the Crew in the Norris beating the Mayhem this week.  They had a week leading 16 goals including 5 from McDavid and 3 each from Forsberg and Makar.

Greek Empire vs. La Femme Nikita 3-3 - The surprise Greek Empire tied the once formidable Nikita.  The Greek Empire are now tied for first in the Smythe.  Nylander led the Greeks with 4 goals and 2 assists.

The Greeks are fired up for their Greek Empire
Who Gives a Puck vs. USSR  3-1-2 - The defending champ Puck finally dealt the Soviets their first losing week of the season.  Auston Matthews had 7 helpers for the Puck!

Three Stars of the Week:

Number One Star: Connor McDavid, C, White Mambas - 5 goals, 2 assists and 3 PPP (Second time elected Number One Star)

Number Two Star:  Patrick Kane, F, California Raisins - 4 goals, 5 assists, 3 PPP and 4 hits

Number Three Star:  Auston Matthews, C, Who Gives a Puck - 2 goals, 7 assists, 3 PPP and 3 hits

Goon of the Week:  Brady Tkachuck, F, Nikita - 18 hits (2nd Goon of the Week Award for Tkachuck)

Happy Veterans Day to all the Veterans who have served this great US of A!

CFFL Week 9

It was Salute for Service in the CFFL this week

A slight delay in getting this out as I was at the Rockets game last night!  Go Rockets!  Anyway,  its that time of year where we start looking at the playoff picture.  In the mean time, here is what happened last week...

Juggernauts 28  Wrecking Crew 26 - The Crew couldn't get a single point from Godwin in the 4:00 games for the win.  Even McCaffrey's 18 points couldn't get the Crew the win.
McCaffrey surfed on top of a defender for one of his 3 TDs

Killer Bees 32  Crush 23 - The Bees take down the Crush led by 12 points from Prescott.  Crush now trail the Sinistars by 3 games as we head down the stretch.
Dak tosses 3 TDS in the win

Mayhem 45 Killers 30
- Mayhem win 3rd in a row since trading Watson beating the Killers behind 12 points from Derrick Henry.  Both teams are in jeopardy of missing the playoffs.

Dragons 25  Bums 20 - Dragons get an easy win versus the Bums and remain ahead of the Bees by one game.  Watson did manage 2 TD passes but the Dragons were lucky they were playing the Bums.

Sinistars 31  Titans 22 - Russell Wilson is certainly making a case for CFFL MVP with 21 points for the Sinistars, leading them to an 8-1 record.  This was the second time this season Wilson has scored 20 or more points.

Chislers 30  Roulette 13 - The Chislers have it easy, with the Rams on bye you would think it could be trouble.  Well it didn't hurt that the Roulette fielded a team with 3 players not playing.  Roulette have now joined the Cocktails (for leaving in the middle of the draft) on the "watch" list.

Rookie Jacobs
Cocktails 32  Animals 21 - The Cocktails pulling away in the east, leading by 3 games.  Josh Jacobs "Jingleheimer Schmidt" scored 12 points and is the early favorite for the CFFL Rookie of the Year.

Ferrets 29  Krauts 26 - The Ferrets survived the Krauts, beating them with Kirk Cousins (12 points).  That had to sting the Krauts.  Melvin Gordon had 12 points for the Krauts and seems to be back.

Player of the Week:  Russell Wilson (again), Sinistars - 21 points

Playoff Picture:

Division Leaders:                Wild Card:
1. Sinistars 8-1                      5. Wrecking Crew 5-4

CFHL Week 5

It was Halloween Week in the CFHL.  Week 5 saw some close match ups...well at least for the most part besides the Husband/Wife match up between  AshBusters and La Femme Nikita...

Goon Crew vs. Checkers 3-2-1 - The big division brother rivalry saw the Crew come back from an early 6-0 deficit earlier in the week to win 3-2-1.  Goalies were brutal on both sides as there was only 1 win between both teams and neither team posted a SV% above .900.

Assassins vs. USSR 3-3 - These two teams split the categories but USSR still remains tops in the league.  They smacked the Assassins a bit with 52 hits, including 13 from thug Evander Kane.
Huberdeau had 4 goals for Mayhem!

California Raisins vs. Mayhem on Ice 3-3 - Another tie between the expansion Raisins and Mayhem.  Mayhem scored an impressive 14 goals, getting 4 goals from Huberdeau and 3 each from Svechnikov and Tkachuk.  They also had 4 goalie wins between Binnington and Bobrovsky.

AshBusters vs. La Femme Nikita 6-0 - In the big blow out of the week, the AshBusters could be sleeping on the couch after that whipping.  And this was even with an outstanding week by Nikita center Elias Pettersson who had 3 goals, 6 assists, 4 PPP and 4 hits.

Holtby was big for the Mambas
The Greek Empire vs. Krampus Carols  4-2 - The Greek Empire have managed to put together back to back winning weeks.  They were led by Brock Boeser's 4 goals, 3 assists and 4 PPP.

White Mambas vs. Who Gives a Puck 4-2 - The White Mambas continue to win and the defending champs Who Gives a Puck slip further down in the standings this year.  Mambas got 4 wins and .934 SV% from Holtby and Mrazek.

Three Stars of the Week:

Number 1 Star:  Elias Pettersson, C, La Femme Nikita - 3 goals, 6 assists, 4 PPP and 4 hits

Number 2 Star:  Brock Boeser, F, Greek Empire - 4 goals, 3 assists and 4 PPP

Number 3 Star:  Darcy Kuemper, G, AshBusters - 2 wins, .966 SV% including a shutout.

Goon of the Week:  Evander Kane, F, USSR - 13 hits

Standing updates:

Smythe: Mayhem have a slim 1 point lead in the Smythe division over the surprise team Greek Empire.  Raisins and Krampus still trying to find some consistency.

Norris:  Crew have been in first place since the opening face off, but the Mambas have kept close and are only 2 points behind. Third place Checkers with 34 points would be leading the Smythe division...

Adams:  USSR have a comfortable 13 point lead already.  AshBusters, Nikita and Who Gives a Puck have been struggling so far to begin the season.
