CFFL Week 14

What a wild final week of the Season... well at least in 2 games, rest weren't really that close.

Game of the Week 1: Wrecking Crew 31 Animals 30
Carr celebrates his game winning TD!
The Animals were playing to keep their playoff hopes alive.  If they won they would be in good shape for a wildcard spot if one of the other 7-6 teams ahead of them would lose too.  The Crew were just playing spoiler.  The Animals took a commanding lead early with 12 points from Fitzpatrick and 12 from "Jim Jay" Bullock.  However Thomas Rawls would break his ankle and not return to the game.  The Crew got TDs from Martin and Sammy "Davis Jr" Watkins and the score was 30-17.  The Crew would need their Raiders to come through and they were playing the tough Bronco Defense.  It wasn't till the second half of that game when Carr would connect with Roberts for the 10 point connection making the game 30-27.  Just like that the Crew were back in it.  Carr would then throw one more TD, that turned out to be the game winning TD making it 31-30.  The Crew survived Sunday Night as the Animals had Hopkins going, but would come up empty.  Any playoff hopes the Animals had dissipated in the Sunday Night Texas air...

Game of the Week 2:  Dragons 46 Bees 43
Now this game had one of the wildest comebacks in CFFL history.  The Bees were looking at finishing 8-6, firmly set as a wildcard team.  They lead 34-22 late into Sunday as Lockett and Ginn Jr combined for 24 points.  The Dragons were led by Newton's 12 points, which at the time, looked like the Dragons wasted yet another great week from Newton.  The Bees then on Sunday Night would add 9 more from Gostkowski to make the score 43-22.  There was no way the Dragons would get 4 scores from Lamar Miller and Beckham Jr on Monday Night... or would they?  Well early on Lamar Miller scored from 14 yards out, score 43-28.  Lamar Miller would score again, this time a beautiful 38 yard run in the 2nd quarter, score 43-34.  They would still need 2 more scores.  Beckham Jr. would catch a 6 yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter, score 43-40.  Was it possible?  Could the impossible, be possible?  YES IT CAN!!! Then in the 4th quarter Beckham would haul in an 84 yard TD pass to complete the comeback, SCORE 46-43!!!  To make matters worse for the Bees who fell to 7-7, the Sinistars won to move to 7-7 and held the tie breaker over the Bees as they played week 5 with the Sinistars winning 47-24.  So the Dragons knocked out their bitter Rival Bees in dramatic fashion!
Beckham races 84 yards for game winner!

Sinistars 26 Mafia 10 - As mentioned the Sinistars win propelled them into the playoffs.  In addition their win over the Mafia helped the Crush become West Division Champs.  The Sinistars actually didn't even realize they had made the playoffs and were just fighting to be a respectable .500 club..

Williams playing big for the Crush
Crush 48 Bums 13 - Crush needed the win to clinch the West Division Crown and had little problem doing that vs. the Bums.  It helped to get 16 points from Eli Manning on Monday night to go along with DeAngelo Williams 12.  This marks 7 division title and first one since 2008.

Titans 28 Mayhem 13 - In a meaningless game the Titans upset the Mayhem led by 18 big points from Doug Baldwin "Brother".  The Mayhem still remain the number one seed in the playoffs and Sad Sack South Champs.  This is the Mayhem's 6 division title and first one since 2012.

Juggernauts 23 Cocktails 17 - In a must win game for both teams, more so for the Juggs, the Cocktails came up a little flat and have some serious QB issues going into the playoffs.  The Juggernauts had to win to stay in the wildcard spot.  The Cocktails needed the win to clinch the East Division.  The Juggs won with just 1 TD from Hightower (nice pick up) and 11 points from their kicker and 6 from their D.  An odd way to win.  This was the Juggernauts 7th win in a row.  Are they this year's Chislers?

Krauts 32 Roulette 6 - This time the Krauts made it all the way to Moscow and kicked some Rooskie ass.  With the Eastern Bloc title on the line the Krauts took care of business.  Rodgers had 8 and McManus kicked in 12.  And as it seems every week an Allen Brother scored and Jordan Reed scored.  The Roulette who looked so good early in the year completely faded away as their once potent 10 point connection became non existent (Ryan and Julio Jones). This is the Krauts 6 division title and second in a row.
Jordan Reed TD Catch!

Ferrets 42 Chislers 19 - The Ferrets had the division locked up and not really playing for anything.  The Chislers on the other hand needed the win and help to make the playoffs for the 23rd time and 8th year in a row.  Well the Ferrets were playing for something.  The Coveted Cherry Brother sweep!  They beat the Chiselers 37-19 in Week 1.  Then swept the Crew in the home and home series and if they could win this game would have swept the Cherry Brothers.  This turned out to be easier than expected getting 20 points from Russell Wilson.  This is the Ferrets 7th Division title.  And this marks the first time that either the Crew or the Chislers did not make the playoffs since 1996!  (Looks like we will finally have a different trophy presentation next year)
Wilson ends all interviews now with "Go Ferrets"

NOW ON TO THE PLAYOFFS AND THE CHASE FOR FANTASY BOWL XXXI

Stamm's Sinistars (7-7) at Michigan Mayhem (10-4)

Line: Mayhem -2

The Mayhem come into the playoffs as the Number One Seed and marks their 9th playoff appearance since entering the league in 2002.  They are led by their QB Matthew Stafford, which isn't exactly good.  Edelman will need to come back to help Mayhem make a deep run into the playoffs.  Fitzgerald, Landry and recently Delanie Walker certainly don't hurt.

The Sinistars basically backed into the playoffs as they were out of the playoffs until 11 minutes left in the Monday night game when the Dragons completed that epic comeback vs. Bees.  This is only the 6 playoff appearance for them since entering the league in 2005.  They will rely on an Allen Brother (Robinson) to take them further in the playoffs.  Not sure Jay Cutler or Johnny "Let's Party and do stupid shit" Manziel will lead this team.

Mark's Mafia (8-6) at Kretz Krauts (9-5)

Line: Krauts -6

Berlin will be buzzing as the Krauts return to Germany for another run at the Fantasy Bowl and are hoping for a better performance this year then last year's first round loss at home to the Crush.  This is the Krauts 9th playoff appearance since entering the league in 2002.  Krauts are tough with Rodgers at QB, Hill at RB and yet another Allen Brother in the playoffs (Hurns) not to mention Jordan Reed, the new stud Redskins TE.

Krauts fans in line to get playoff tickets

The Mafia might be calling in some favors from their Italian mob to scout out things in Berlin and whack these Krauts.  Since 1996 when the Mafia started running booze and gambling in the CFFL, this is their 9th playoff appearance as well.  Interestingly they have Kirk Cousins (counter to Reed) but also Ben Roethlisberger.  Yeah Big Ben should get the nod.  They did suffer a big blow when Tyler Eifert went down last week with a concussion.  Will have to manage to get through at least one game without him.
Mafia celebrating release of The Force Awakens

Jakes Juggernauts at Fez's Ferrets

Line: Pick'em

Who will Michigan route for?  The Ferrets who play in Ann Arbor or the Mayhem who play at Ford Field.  (If only Michigan was so lucky in reality). The Ferrets seem like a team of destiny.  Sweeping the Cherry Brothers and neither of them making the playoffs, winning the North and as one of the original 3 left in the league that started in 1985 and yet no Fantasy Bowl title.  Well in the 31 years this is their 12 playoff appearance and 7th division title.  They have a QB with a hot hand in Wilson who has been on fire lately.  Oh and they also have Brady.  A nice problem to have or a curse?  And does Vegas know something we don't?  A Pick'em?  Looks like an easy bet on the Ferrets!
Who to start??

The Juggs who, before the epic Bees collapse, were set to square off against long time rival Krauts, were happy to see that they get the Ferrets instead (careful what you wish for).  The Juggs were ridiculed for the first half of the season as they had a terrible draft, a draft in which they nearly had 2 picks in every round for the first 6 rounds!  Well they started to put things together and have rattled off 7 in a row.  This is only their 5th playoff appearance since entering the league in 2005.  Their playoff run might be short lived as their leader Andy "Malachi, Heat Miser" Dalton broke his thumb in the final game and is likely to be out remainder of the season.

Molotov Cocktails at Cabucki's Crush

Line: Cocktails -1

The Crush entered the league in 1986 and this marks their 11 playoff appearance and yet they still don't know that a shut out by your defense gets you 6 points... This team is clearly led by DeAngelo Williams (a great get) and Richard "Jolly Trolley" Rodgers. The QB situation is interesting as they typically go with Eli Manning, but has Bortles on the bench.  He has actually outscored Manning 126-112.  He has scored 20 and 18 points the past two weeks.

This is only the 2nd year for the Cocktails and they have immediately been recognized as a team that appears to know what they are doing and pays attention.  This team was predicted to be here, there is no question about that.  However as it stands their QB situation is a mess.  Luck, Hasselbeck, Hoyer.  I don't think any of them are healthy right now and Hasselbeck and Hoyer got hammered last week and would be in concussion protocols.  Devonta Freeman, who set the league on fire the first 6 weeks of the season scoring 10 TDs, has only scored 1 since.  Thankfully they acquired Brandon Marshall from the Crew.
Cocktails sign Nike to design new uniforms

Now lets take a look at how well the preseason predictions panned out:

North:  Predictions: Division Winner: Ferrets  Actual: Ferrets
Potential playoff team: Animals (that was close)

East: Division Winner: Cocktails  Actual: Krauts (both tied, but Krauts had tie breaker)
Playoff teams: Krauts and Roulette (was right about Krauts and Cocktails getting in.  Had Juggs on bubble)

South:  Division Winner: Dragons. Actual: Mayhem (whoops whiffed on that one)
Playoff teams: Mayhem (got that right)
On the bubble:  Bees (yep that was about as much on the bubble as you could be this year)
Predicted 3 wins.... Titans won 3 games this year...

West:  Division Winner: Mafia  Actual: Crush (came down to last game)
Playoff Teams: Bums, Sinister and Crush (only Bums didn't make it).

Not bad.  Not bad at all!

CFHL Week 7

This was a week of close matchups and one blow out...

Goon Crew vs. Checkers 5-0-1
In the Brother Rivalry, the Goon Crew owned this game winning in all categories except goals.  They had 4 categories wrapped up and then an 11 PIM night on Saturday put them in the lead 21-19 in PIM.  Not to mention they were tied with goals at 8 each and they both had their big scorers playing, but no one ended up scoring.  No Kings for the Checkers, and no Stars for the Crew.  The Impressive part of this game was the Crew's goalies that racked up 6 wins and a .974 SV% between Crawford and Varlamov.  The win put the Goon Crew into first place in the Norris.
Crawford had 3 wins on the week!

USSR vs. Who Gives a Puck 3-3
Two struggling franchises skated to a tie this week.  While the Crew displayed excellence in net, these two teams combined for only 1 goalie win.  Who Gives a Puck had no wins from their goalies, main reason was Bobrovsky was listed with the dreaded lower body injury and placed on IR.  Patrick Kane and Ristolainen each had 3 goals for the USSR, but they continue to struggle with the +/- as they finished with -6 and only 2 players had a positive +/-.
It was throwback night for the USSR

Mayhem on Ice vs. MacDaddys AshBusters 3-3
Another tie this week with AshBusters winning goals with only 8 and the Mayhem winning +/- with only +3 (well Puck won with a -5, so what the hell).  David Backes was the Number One Star of the game tallying 3 goals, 2 assists +1 and 7 PIM.  Nearly matching him was Gaudreau with 3 goals, 2 assist and a +3, no PIM.  Mayhem are still trailing the Krampus by 9 points.
Backes getting 5 of his 7 PIM

Krampus Carols vs. Assassins 3-2-1
The Krampus continue to lead the league in points and in first place and they did it again with some impressive fire power.  Taylor Hall, Kucherov, and Justin Faulk all had 3 goals each.  Hall also had 3 assists, a +4 and PIM to earn Number One Star honors for the game.  While the Krampus got the win, they got beat up in the process as the Assassins racked up 25 PIM, including 11 from Marchand.  The Assassins only managed 4 goals all week.
Taylor Hall lead the Krampus in stuffing kids in sacks!

Football Q & A

Sitting there watching PTI on ESPN and hearing the questions for Steve Young made me want to answer those questions and maybe add in my own comments on other issues....

Should a losing team make the playoffs?
Interesting question.  First, under the current rules of the NFL the answer would be and has been yes.  Should they be.  I don't think so.  Why should a team that has a 10-6 record not make it because they play in a better division than a team that is a lame division and wins it at 7-9.  To fix this, they might have to take a chapter from the NHL.  Go with the top teams in each conference.  Still have division for rivalries but go with just top teams in each Conference.

Its not like the Rams would benefit from this.  In fact they would benefit better with allowing losing teams in the playoffs.  On a side note, as much as I get down being a Rams fan the Browns and Lions always make me feel a little better.  My brother asked me, "If someone would tell you your favorite team will suck for 25 years, but in that 25 years they would be good for 4 years and make it 2 Super Bowls and win one would you take it". Yes I would!  And if you ask any Lions or Browns fan you better believe they would in a heart beat!!

Is J.J. Watt as good or better than Lawrence Taylor?
No freaking way!  Watt is no question an amazing player.  But LT changed the way the game is played on defense.  He personified the rushing, sacking, line backer like no one ever had.  He perfected the now famous "tomahawk chop" Watt could be compared to many great defensive lineman, and still not be the greatest of all time.  Which I believe that LT would be one of 4 all time LBs.  Mount Rushmore of LB so to speak.  LT, Butkus, Lewis and Lambert.  All time D linemen... Reggie White, Deacon Jones, Mean Joe, Alan Page.  Could Watt be mentioned with them?  With LeRoy Selmon, Bruce Smith? He might...

TD Celebrations
Okay.  Some are ridiculous.  Some people don't like Newton and his celebrations.  But I will take them every day over the WRs that claim there is pass interference on every play.  And I can't believe that the refs threw a flag on Ingram when he scored a TD, chucked the ball at the wall, which a lot of player do all the time, and because it bounced off the wall and hit some stadium worker chick in the back they flagged it.  I mean really??  How cool was it when Beckham scored he ran the hurdles.  Or does anyone remember the Fun Bunch??

Lets throw the flags on the whiny babies that think that every incomplete bass or drop ball is because of pass interference.  Just stop!  There should be a rule for every time they do that "throw the flag" motion with their hand the flag Should be thrown on them.

There you have it. Now I have to go watch the Bruins vs Habs.  GO BRUINS!

CFFL Week 13

Here we go.  Week 13 action and a look at the final week of the regular season and the playoff picture!

Game of the Week:  Bees 44  Titans 43
The Bees fighting for their playoff lives needed this win to keep them in the hunt.  Playing the Titans they figured it would be no problem.  Well the Titans had other ideas.  This was a dog fight from the beginning.  A regular barn burner!  The Titans got 12 points from Baldwin and a rare Dolphin D score along with 8 points from long time Titan Ingram.  The Bees would come back with 12 points from Ginn Jr. later in the day.  The score was 43-38 in favor of the Titans.  It came down to Martavis Bryant for the Bees vs. Andre Johnson for the Titans on Sunday Night.  Bees would get a TD from Bryant while Johnson came up empty and so did the Titans.
Bryant scores game winner!

Mafia 41 Bums 14 - The Mafia took care of business Sunday taking a game lead in the West be easily defeating the Bums.  Roethlisberger scored 17 points while Stewart, Johnson and Evans all scored TDs.

Sinistars 46 Crush 24 - Sinistars victory has give them a shot at a Wild Card spot, albeit slim.  The Sinistar wide outs exploded in this game with Maclin getting 12 and one of the Allen Brothers (Robinson) hauling in 3 TDs!
This Allen brother scored 3 times!

Mayhem 41 Dragons 34 - Dragons playoff hopes were extinguished despite Dragon QB Newton's 20 points.  They had this game won, if it wasn't for the Mayhem D/ST Eagles who had 18 points!  The Mayhem always seem to find a defense that scores a ton of points (read Ravens of old). A disappointing end for the Dragons, who currently have the 2nd ranked offense with 430 points and will miss the playoffs.

Juggernauts 37 Roulette 11 - The Juggs won their 6th in a row after starting 1-6 and now are in the driver seat for a wild card spot.  "Malachi" Dalton has been solid for the Juggs scoring 14 points this week to go along with kicker Catanzaro's 9 points.  The Roulette's Ryan and Jones scored  only 4 points.  A theme this second half of the year for the Roulette unfortunately.
Super Ginger

Krauts 43 Cocktails 15 - The Krauts won a very key game in the East, defeating the Cocktails to close within only 1 game of the East and completing the Sweep of the Cocktails.  The Krauts started out fast getting 14 points from Rodgers Thursday and never looked back.

Wrecking Crew 40 Chislers 9 - The Crew won their second in a row surprisingly, defeating their Brother Rival.  The Carr and Crabtree experiment continued to be successful connecting for another 10 point connection.  The Chislers would appear to have ridden the Chargers and Rivers one year too long.
The Crew 10 point Connection

Animals 49 Ferrets 37 - With the Crew winning, the Ferrets didn't need to win this game to win the North, but would have been nice.  The game was tied at 37 going into Sunday night, but Animals would get not one but two TDs from Antonio Brown to defeat the Ferrets and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Brown celebrates the Animals win!

With one week let in the regular season there is still a lot to shake out as it relates to the playoffs.  I am sure there is a multitude of combinations, but I will do my best to at least summarize what to expect this week.

Division Winners:

North:  Ferrets have clinched.

South: Mayhem have clinched and have clinched #1 seed in Playoffs (even lose and Cocktails win, they beat Cocktails 19-16 in Week 10)

East:  Cocktails clinch with win or if Krauts lose.
Krauts clinch with win and Cocktails loss. (Krauts swept Cocktails)

West: Mafia clinch with win or Crush loss.
Crush clinch if win and Mafia lose.

Wildcard:  Okay, so here is where it gets complicated.  But I will make it pretty simple. Or at least try.  1 wildcard spot will belong to either the Krauts or Cocktails.  The other to Mafia or Crush if Crush win and Mafia win.  If Crush win division then Mafia get the other Wildcard spot.

Other than Crush, The Bees and Juggs are 7-6.  If they win, they are in the playoffs at 8-6.  That would be it.  The 8 teams would be: Ferrets, Mayhem, Cocktails, Mafia, Crush, Krauts, Bees and Jugsgs.

Then there is 4 teams at 6-7 that if go to 7-7 could make the playoffs.  These are Chislers, Animals, Roulette and Sinistars.  They need either the Juggs, Crush or Bums to lose to have a chance.  Animals are in the driver seat with the most points scored at 413, 30 more than the Crush.  Crush then would be next if they would lose with 383 points, 14 more than the Bees.  The rest of the teams (Chiz, Roulette and Sinistars) will need some help.

Got it?  Clear as mud right?  Well let the fun begin!!

CFHL Week 6

Check out last week's action in the CFHL.  Lots of blow outs this week!

Goon Crew vs. Who Gives a Puck 5-1
The Goon Crew did just enough in about every category to defeat the defending champs.  It wasn't much but was enough.  Scoring only 6 goals to the Puck's 4.  Winning +/- with a -3.  And getting 2 goalie wins with a very pedestrian .915 SV%.  Only Spezza for the Crew scored more than 1 goal (2) and only Getzlaf had more than 2 assists in the game (3).  The win pulls the Crew into 2nd place in the Norris 4 points behind Checkers.

Spezza celebrates one of his goals for the Crew

Mayhem on Ice vs. USSR 5-0-1
The USSR just can't seem to get going and this time were about shut out.  Mayhem won goals led by Weber's 3.  Weber also had 3 assists and a +3 to earn the Number One Star honors for the game.  Mike Hoffman for the Soviets did his part notching 4 goals but little help elsewhere.  Mayhem goalie Lundqvist single handedly won the goalie stats with 2 wins and .948 SV%.
Weber had a hat trick in Detroit

Checkers vs. Assassins 5-1
Checkers kept the Crew 4 points back by matching them this week handing the Assassins a bitter loss that knocked them back to 3 a full 10 points behind.  The game was tied with goals going into Sunday night, however Milan Lucic broke that tie scoring a late goal to win the goals stats for the Checkers and move the game to 5-1.  He had 3 goals on the week.  Jonathan Quick had a great week as well going 3-0 on the week.
Quick was huge in net for the Checkers

Krampus Carols vs. AshBusters 3-2-1
The Krampus continue to win... is it the season?  Will they keep this up once Krampus season is over?  Well they hope so.  This week every single skater playing for the Krampus scored at least 1 goal.  4 of them had 2 and Corey "Dog" Perry had 3.  Karlsson had 5 assists for the Krampus despite losing to the AshBusters in assists 15-12.  Ekman-Larson for the AshBusters couldn't get out of his own way last week notching a -10 in +/-.  AshBusters did have an impressive .965 SV% between Holtby and Dubnyk.
Its Krampus Season!!

CFFL Week 12

Hard to believe that the season is almost over.  This was the last week before division games to finish up the season...

Game of the Week:  Killer Bees 26 Roulette 22 (OT)

Osweiler celebrates the OT win!
While there wasn't a ton of action in this game, it ended in OT in exciting fashion.  The Roulette had another disappointing game from their once potent 10 point connection  of Ryan and Julio Jones as Ryan had only 1 TD and wasn't to Jones.  McCoy got a TD and Novak kicked in 6 points.  Bees, after a 5 TD performance from Winston, only got 4 points from him Sunday.  Bryant added a TD and Julius Thomas had 6.  Game was tied 16-16 going into Sunday Night.  Gostkowski would kick in 6 points for the Bees to take a 22-16 lead.  Monday night would see the Roulette tie the game back up with a TD catch from Aiken "My Balls".  The game was tied 22-22 and went into OT, where Brock Osweiler's only TD on Sunday night ended up winning the game for the Bees in OT!

Juggernauts 43 Titans 13 - The Juggernauts, after trading players and seemingly out of it have won 5 in a row and are in the thick of the playoff race.  Dalton had 12 points and the Panther Defense scored twice!

Marshall came up big for the Cocktails
Cocktails 44 Dragons 36 - Luck is not in the air for the Dragons, loser of 2 straight.  This week they were victim of the Cocktails combo of Peterson and Marshall who combined for 24 points!  Dragons made it interesting with 2 scores from the Raven's Defense, but wouldn't be enough.

Mayhem 33 Krauts 30 - The third straight loss by the Krauts have all but handed the division to the Cocktails.  Not often do you win a game when just your QB and kicker score.  However Mayhem pulled if off thanks to 20 points from Stafford and 13 from kicker Jason "Michael" Myers.

Ferrets 50 Bums 23 - Ferrets laid a 50-burger on the Bums! 20 points from Russell Wilson, who was started because  it was his birthday instead of Brady.  As frosty would say..."HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Plus Megatron scored 3 times, first time he found the end zone since week 7.

Wrecking Crew 33 Crush 28 - In a very intense game for the Crew, who, after a terrible year, made this their Fantasy Bowl, they survived the Steelers/Seahawk game.  Crush had Williams and Graham and were only down 8 points.  Williams got a score earlier and both had many chances as Hauschka, kicker for the Crew managed only 3 XP.  The Crew managed to pull off the win, beating their bitter rival Crush.

Animals 26 Mafia 20 - The Animals suffered a blow when Romo went down breaking his clavicle again.  They manger to get the win behind 12 points from AJ Green.  Rawls and Ivory both had TDs as well for the Animals running attack.

Chislers 41 Sinistars 18 - Chislers had little problem defeating the Sinistars behind 16 points from Rivers, something the Chislers had been used to in the past but this season has been rare.  Ware, Austin and Johnson (a 10 point connection) all scored TDs for the Chislers
Rivers is fired up... when isn't he fired up?

As we head into the final 2 weeks of the season and divisional games finish out the season, lets take a look at the playoff and division races:

NORTH - Ferrets still hold a 2 game lead in the North.  They face the Animals this week.  Chislers face the hapless Crew.  Ferrets clinch the division with a win.  If they lose and the Chislers win next weeks game between the Ferrets and Chislers will be for the North.  Animals still have a shot at Wild Card but likely will need to win out.

SOUTH - Mayhem have clinched their 6th division title and currently are tied with the best record in the league at 9-3.  Bees at 6-6 looking to make it in as a Wild Card.  Dragons after dropping 2 games in a row are playing their way out of the playoffs.  They will need to win out to have a chance and have a date with the Bees in the final game of the season and could have playoff implications.
Mayhem tailgater

EAST - Cocktails are tied for the best record in the league at 9-3 and have a 2 game lead over the suddenly fading Krauts.  This weeks big battle between the Krauts and the Cocktails will decide a lot.  Cocktails win, the Eastern Bloc belongs to Leningrad.  Roulette and Juggernauts are tied at 6-6 and will be battling for a wild card spot.
This weeks Krauts vs Cocktails game program

WEST - Crush and Mafia are tied for the lead in the West at 7-5.  They already played each other in the home and home series which the Crush swept.  So if they finished tied, the Crush win the division.  Mafia will need them to lose to either the Bums or the Sinistars.  Both teams at 5-7 need to win out and seek help to make the playoffs most likely.

CFHL Week 5

It was a close week with two games ending in a tie and 2 games with just a one win margin.

Goon Crew vs. USSR 3-2-1
Despite the Goon Crew victory, they were disappointed with the ultimate results.  They held a 5-1 lead going into Saturday's games and were ready to make their move in the Norris standings.  But that's where the Soviets put an end to that scoring 5 goals to the Crew's 2 to tie up the goals, 7 assists to Crew's 3 to win Assists.  What was looking like a blow out was much closer.  Jamie Benn was the Number One Star honors with 4 goals, 2 assists +1 and 6 PIM.

Benn and Seguin combined for 6 goals

Who Gives a Puck vs. AshBusters 3-3
The defending champs skated to a tie to the AshBusters.  Wednesday was the big day for both teams.  AshBusters doubled up the +/- on the Puck going +13 vs -13.  However Puck knocked the AshBusters in the mouth with 23 PIM that night led by Claude Giroux who had 15 PIM Wednesday.  Holtby for the AshBusters earned Number One Star honors with a 4 win week and SV% of .945.

Holby was a wall in net

Mayhem on Ice vs. Assassins 3-2-1
The Assassins were not able to gain ground on Norris division leading Checkers and still remain 2 points behind.  It was a relatively low scoring game as each team was only able to come up with 6 goals a piece.  The Assassin had to come from behind to tie the goals getting 4 goals Saturday Night vs. Simmonds' 2 goals for the Mayhem.

Tis the season for Mayhem

Checkers vs. Krampus Carols 3-3
Checkers managed to give the Krampus Carols all they could handle skating to a 3-3 tie.  Checkers were led by Malkin who had 4 goals but unfortunately only 2 other players manger to net a goal.  Krampus had a pair of goals from 4 different players and once again their blue line was strong getting 12 assists from their defenseman!  Karlsson had 4 assists alone!  Guess this would be the result we would expect between the #1 and #2 teams in the CFHL.  Could that had been a Cherry Cup preview...?  We shall see.

Checker's Ice Girls
